Yes, and absolutely so, but with respect to Levi, he has a lot more to prove than a better than expected start to his career.
So far so good, but who here is quite ready to announce Levi as lock for the future?
I'll still put my money on Mitchell and that's not for putting Levi down, as for my expectations of Mitchell once his game comes together, from what I've seen.

Levi has shown his abilities in 5 games and no one is complaining but we do know how these things can work.
Early doors. Very early doors.
Has improved every year despite several big injuries. Is a hard worker, has on field presence and appears to be a big game/stage player (ants finals, big crowd in dons match)
strong contested marking players = worth their weight in gold for footy teams.

I'm not as fussed about his kicking skills as some. It will improve as his career progresses and as he gains more fitness.

Has only been playing footy since 16, had a few injury issues (ie missed a lot of games) but has shown the capacity to contribute and occasionally dominate throughout his career (40 goals in last yr of TAC, ants finals, dons game)

Injury free, I'm confident the levi will play 150+ games - is that a sufficient lock for the future?

Casboult in contract talks

CARLTON'S surprise-packet forward Levi Casboult, out of contract in his third season as a rookie, is seeking to capitalise on his form by negotiating a two-year deal with the Blues.
Casboult's manager, Anthony McConville, said he had opened discussions with Carlton about a contract for Casboult, who has emerged from obscurity over the past month to become a key marking target for the Blues. McConville confirmed that Casboult would be seeking a two-year deal from the Blues, who either have to give Casboult a spot on the senior list or delist him under the AFL rules governing rookie-listed players.

''I would imagine we'll look to do a two-year deal,'' he said. ''There's a lot of good things to look forward to with Levi.'' :thumbsu:

nah... this one is all mine :P

We need to make a banner for the game saying "Who needs Cloke when we have 'Rock The Casboult'!" just so the club gets the message that we dont want another Cloke at the club... (just in case they havent been reading this forum lately :))

Sometimes, only simetimes, you are quite humorous :p

Rock the Casboult !

although if we trade Hampson we lose Megan Gale and we are not the best looking most glamorous footy club anymore!

Daisy Thomas takes enormous offense at this. :p

I reckon we trade either Hampson or Warnock, although if we trade Hampson we lose Megan Gale and we are not the best looking most glamorous footy club anymore!

Also Thornton, Ellard and Russell should be traded, we need some nuggety rebound tough-nut defenders like Sydney have got.
Without wishing to derail the Levi thread, Thornton and Russell have little value on the trade market left, third round picks at best. Rusty has more upside staying on our list than trade value, unless we need to free the spot. Both would be valuable to the expansion teams, not sure what the compensation would be (is that how it still works with them, the AFL decides the comp pick?).

Early days yet on whether to trade either Hammer or 206, but with Caz coming on, it would seem we are one ruck too many again. Ellard's a keeper if he wants to stay. Not far off our best 22 and he keeps working, clubs love players like that.

I was so, so wrong about Levi this year. I was convinced he was gone after his games in the NAB Cup. To play how he's played after a PCL and two games of footy is a massive effort.

The want on his face when chasing Dempsey was great to watch and I can only hope he solves his kicking issues.

After Travis walks to the Demons for $5m, the Magpies will be looking for a CHF.

Their 2nd rounder?
And do what with a pick from about 30ish? Gamble on picking up another kid that might turn out to be as good as Levi appears to be?

Why?

Why not just bank what we have and be grateful we may have solved our CHF and CHB (with Levi at CHF, Hendo can stay at CHB).

The makings of a 10 year spine. Watson, Hendo, Bell, Caz, Squid.

Ka Ching.

Big fan of your spine, 40YB.
Just to clarify, I am a big Jamo fan, and likely he will still have a great contribution to make for half the next decade (he is only 25 I think), but see him more rebounding than wrestling gorillas in future. Hope he gets some injury luck. Hope we can snag Jarred a flag or 2 to go with his fathers pair before he retires in a couple of years too.

Actually I agree with this. If he was on the third forward, we would thrash most teams aerially, and have the option to switch it up.
