Pick 44 Rookie Draft in 2009, currently 22yrs old.

7 goals 7 behinds in 5 games.

26 marks in 5 games at an average of 5.2 per game.

Cool name factor: immeasurable.

Lots to work with here folks :thumbsu:

14 shots on goal in 5 games is more than serviceable for a part time forward. Wasn't he sole ruck for 1 game as well?

The thing that gets me with the kid is his contested marking. Never seen a 5 gamer attack the ball so hard in the air.

Currently 3rd in the AFL for Contested Marks per game (trailing only Cloke and Hawkins barely) after only 5 games but still very impressive!

Absolutely lost my shit when he snapped from 50m.

Seriously good hands. If he can get a good pre-season, get a bit more athletic and straighten his set shots he will be a serious target for us next year.

We are a totally different side with Waite and Casboult in. At least 4 goals better.

the 2 run down tackles on dempsey were team lifting
should close the door on cloke and i hope it serves as a lesson to the club that sometimes the answers to our problems are from within and that developing our own youth is vital, build through the draft nomore quick fixes

Funny you should post that because with all the concerns about his ball drop etc. I started watching him closer and on at least one occasion I noticed he had the same grip on the footy as Fev
I've noticed that as well... but I also noticed that because of the way he holds it, there is a slight tilt on the ball which would account for his right to left slice when he kicks it.

This is correctable I feel and would only take about 4-5 weeks. Thumbs level with the top of the laces, ball tilted slightly away from you to allow for your hands coming up slightly and the ball will drop straight down when he releases it.

But apart from that small thing, I am loving his attitude, endeavor and his marking in the forward line.

Having him in there with his marking abilities suddenly makes opposition defences accountable.

Cant wait to see either Rowe or Mitchell in there with him.

Dramoth,
Don't forget, Mitchell was number 3 in pre season at the club until he hurt his shoulder again.
Wait until we get Waite, Mitchell and Casboult on the same forward line....

He's come much further than I thought possible.

Has a place carved out on the list already as Kreuzer's understudy. Maybe, just maybe, he'll come on as a permanent forward, although he'll need to kick a consistent 30+ goals a year to justify his place in a side containing Warnock/ Hampson + Kreuzer. I'm hoping like buggery that he'll be able to. Plus there's the issue of wat do with Mitchell when Levi's in the side, but I think by the time Mitchell is a force, he'll be rotating games with Waite, so this won't be so much of a problem.

Anyway, enough of my devilish advocating, the kid played a blinder today and deserves the praise heaped on him.
I reckon that we will be now allowing Mitchell to finish his development with McCarthy and Squidda will be starting to rotate with Waite as you said.

Levi is going to get elevated this year, we will work on his ball drop and bing bang boom... we have a tall forward everyone has been screaming for.

is there room for all 3?mitchell was considered by gold coast as one of the 17year old pre draft selections 3 years back so he was at least in the top bracket of kids at that time and could turn out to be a steal just needs a free run at it

He was the #1 ruck in his debut game... and still managed to snag a goal from it.

Being 22 would make him too old for the rising star, wouldn't it?
depends when his birthday was... and considering that he is a rookie might sway it...

but I suspect that you might be right :)

Has strong and super sticky hands and most impressively, has a bit of "see you next tuesday" in him, which suits his big frame. At the very least he'll bring the ball to ground (which suits Eddie and Jeffy) or hurt an opposition defender.
