So what is going on with this guy?
10 Goals in 2 games this year

57 in 21 games last year.

22 years old, 193cm, 91kg

Why is he not playing? We lack goal kicking power at the moment, surely he will get a go soon.... Right?

It can't be the hair anymore...

You're right. He needs a go. However, I have heard that he has some attitude problems (don't know how true that is). From reports, he seems to be tearing up the SANFL, so it's about time he replaces one of our underachievers. Considering his 7 goal-haul last week, I was expecting him to be lining up against the Dogs.

Well I know for a fact he was arrogant as a younger player. He may still have this attitude?

Because we have a much much better key forward in Tex, and Jenkins is clearly preferred as the 2nd key forward (and his form has been decent). Sando has said he'll try the 3 tall setup at some point during the year, but it obviously isn't this week.

He does come across as quite arrogant and lazy at the same time. Dont think he can play in the same team as Tex

Obviously (as I have posted elsewhere) this is Adelaides perception

Lewis Johnston

and if that is the case, delist at the end of the year.

He doesn't fit the current structure of 1 KPF (walker), 1 KPF/ruck (Jenkins) and 3 smalls/liabilities (Petrenko, Johncock, Porplyzia). Right now if he were to play it would be replacing Walker.

But if he keeps performing and our small forwards keep sucking maybe they will change the forward set up to accomodate him. Essendon for example plays both Hurley and Crameri as well as rotating Ryder and Bellchambers forward.

Didn't we play a game with Walker, Jenkins and Tippett once?

If Tex is the reason that Johnston is not getting a game, I feel really sorry for the kid.

Why recruit him if u don't give him a fair go?

Because the previous club are under no obligations to advertise his negative attributes.

He is lazy at training, he coasts through and doesn't push himself to the limits. He does just enough and gets by on his natural talent.

Until this changes, I doubt he will get an honest run of games.

Season is plenty long and he still needs to improve on a few things to make it as an AFL player. Gifting him games here or there mightn't make him appreciate how hard you have to work to be a successful AFL player.

He'll get there and personally I do want him in the side but he needs to be made to fight for it so when he does get his shot he doesn't do OK but kicks three or four, takes a few marks and makes the third forward spot his own.

So your position is that our recruiting guys didn't do their homework before bringing him in?

Hate for it to be true, could be I guess

If BigFooty knew about potential attitude problems then I'm pretty sure the AFC would have.

It may have been a high risk, high return decision. Considering it was a trade for Armstrong it wasn't a bad trade.

You'd think that they'd have to take risks sometimes. The amount of players that were utter ********s at 19 must be massive but some grow out of it or at least for two hours a week

Although the thought that he has enough 'natural talent' to dominate the SANFL, yet can't get a gig in a struggling team is a tad baffling. Craigesque.

Yes, that setup has definitely been used at least once.

I went to the Crows v Blues game at Etihad last year when we went with Jenkins, Lynch and Tippett up front (Walker was suspended). Looked fantastic. Won by 12 goals. Having Johnston replace a Callinan / Johncock / Petrenko or Porplyzia up forward can not possibly make us a worse side. 2 of those 4 can't tackle an AFL player to save their lives, 3 of them struggle to take a grab, one of them can't kick and the other is a defender. Johnston is a natural forward with a great leg, can take a grab. He probably can't lay a tackle but hey, neither can 15 of our current 22 so clearly that is not a prerequisite for selection at our club.
