The draft is too compromised for WC to use top 20 draft capital on 27 year olds. Their fans are rightly pissed at the whole situation.

Baker for 14 in isolation is probably a slight overpay IMO, the fact he's out of contract makes it worse, the fact WC are where they are makes it terrible.
My bro, what did we say 2 months ago? Pick 15 ish was the value and would be the deal.
Honestly, this trade caper aint that hard ;)

Oh and before I forget,

Hello WC fans

enjoy WC fans 😘
How quickly things change, over the last few weeks we really saw Freo and WC fans unite on so many levels.

They appear to have gone into this draft and trading period with the primary goal of getting Baker in and everything else being secondary which, given the position we are in, is monumentally stupid. He's not that good a player to base your whole strategy around, he could have been traded for 26 if they had a spine, or walked to the PSD as a nuclear option.

The Eagles have been a laughing stock on the field but in the background it was always accepted they were a professional club that made good decisions and wouldn't be down for long. Now they are a laughing stock off the field as well.
End of it all the problem was they stuffed around with the Barrass deal too long and that's what has cost you.
Baker was never going to PSD or for pick 26.

Wow, I did not see that coming.

Honestly, I love Baker, but I've said previously he is not the player you split pick 3 for. I wouldn't do that deal if I were the Eagles and that's being a Baker fan.

Pick 14 for us is a great result, he must really, really have been committed to Richmond getting fair compensation for him, because as uncontracted, he had every way of getting there for nothing or for cheap if he really wanted.

Honestly I'd have probably taken their current R2 and F2 in the deal, but 14 is a top get.

West coast List management tried tried to play hardball and it magnificently backfired.

They should all get the sack for what they did.

They could have had 14 already and kept pick 3

Gross negligence

Yep this was the deal. Hawks probably stuffed them in the end but yeah

from tigers perspective, its a okay deal but beetter for us if we went freo

That was a good move for us. Once you guys traded your shit picks you were on the back foot. F2 or go to Freo. How we've landed here is incomprehensible.

PSD was never happening.

14 for Baker is an OK deal. Probably favours Tigers a bit. But you'll love Baker. genuine captaincy material.

The Blues deal though, looks .... interesting.
As an outsider Baker for 14 is not a terrible deal for a contending team (he's going to give a team 5 solid years of production which is never a certainty for a mid first round pick).

But for a team like WC which should be trying to bring in young talent ahead of Tassie coming into the mix?

Yeah, that's the strangest part of this.

Had they accepted the Hawthorn offer, they'd have Baker AND they'd still have pick 3 AND a bonus 2nd rounder.

They could then just use a late pick on Owies.

Baffling.

100% agree with this, Freo at picks 14 would have been sensible for example.

Guys I can see smoke going up in the air not too far from me, I'm assuming it's Lathlain Park, they've already begun burning it down.

He’s probably running off the bench for a contending team so it would be a crap deal for them also

Hasn't it been confirmed that offer was never on the table from Hawthorn? I lose track with all the blatant incorrect reporting by the footy media.

I don't know that much about the leadership at WC. But Baker is a genuine leader and awesome role model. In line to be the next Richmond captain. So if the club wanted him for his leadership as much as for his playing ability I really see why they went so hard to Baker. He will be really important in the development of the young guys at the Eagles. Out of the 4 tigers leaving Baker is the one I wanted to stay for exactly the leadership role.

Haha yeah I agree, I said from the start that Baker makes no sense for Eagles. But that's on your list manager, not poor Liam Baker and Matt Owies.
Pyke would've approved it, which is even worse tbh.

As a 'Rebuilding side', we sold the farm to get 2 out of contract short people and slid back to what will be a pick around 15 on draft night.

A 'Contending' club moved up the order to draft a midfielder for immediate impact.

We'd better end up with both of Hawks firsts next year to even remotely look at salvaging this.
