I would worry about his disposal in the back half. He is a great Mark, but his kicking and awareness is a problem. I think he is best suited to the forward line, but you probably won't see the best of him for another couple of years.
Jones is actually a very good field kick and would benefit from playing further up the ground. It's his goal kicking that's the problem.

Jones needs a second [ or more] tall/s in the forward line so he is not constantly double teamed like Bazza was the last couple of years. I think we need to rest our second rucks in the forward line and not on the bench. I would leave Jones at CHF, bring Panos in as lead up FF, and rest Will and Roughy in the F pocket. We are also clearly to short down back at the moment. Until we get Morris and Williams back so Marco can regularly take the third tall forward, I would try Cordy at CHB. Long term I believe Talia will prove a quality key back, and Roberts will be an absolute ripper. But both need a years development, and one more pre season under their belts. As our disposal effectiveness is pretty ordinary at present having plenty of tall timber down forward will allow us to bomb long to break past the press better than we can at present.

Pearce to is also a very good kid, Gilbee also returned and played quite well, I would be more inclined to move Easton Wood to a wing or half forward ,I think his run and tackling skills would be an advantage. We might as well leave Higgins down back and try and get something out of him. Macca I believe is doing a good job I think we just have to be patient, for 2 quarters and 25 mins in third we were 1goal down against quality opposition . I took 15 to 1 about West Coast winning the premiership on Sunday morning, maybe a few of people on this forum should grab a bit of this ,they are pretty good.

Agree with this, apart from when Hall was with us we have not had an adequately structured forward line

Lets develop a permanant FF and CHF solution first and not plug in Minson or Roughy. We have tried it with Minson numerous times in the past pre Hall it will never work as a permanant solution !!!

How about we send Liam Jones back to the VFL to get some confidence... Thats if he can preform even at that level.

Bring Cordy into the team to play CHF.

Give Vespremi a chance in place of Grant.

Keep Tory in the team to see if he can have a stand out performance, he could be the Bulldogs own Crameri.

In all seriousness Jones' leading is terrible. watching him on the weekend stand still and point in a direction was uber frustrating. Not once during a lead did he get even two metres on his opponent.

COME ON JONES GIVE ME SOMETHING!!

I think Cordy needs to come in and play alongside Jones, give him chop out and otherwise be another tall target. Not sure what was going on with Jones' leading on Sunday but yes, it was terrible. Whether it was the delivery as well but he just wasn't hitting the right spots and when he did lead it was half-hearted, almost as if he didn't have the confidence to get outside fwd 50 in case there was nobody else there (many times there wasn't). He needs to learn to lead up hard and confidently and bust his guts to get back into a dangerous spot afterwards.

The 3 man bench virtually requires that you play a resting ruck in the forward line, unfortuantely.

Absolutely dead against any suggestion of sending him back at this stage.
he runs, plays, and marks like a forward, has been developed as a forward, and his future is as a forward.

He lacks composure in front of goals, and he is not going to gain that sitting in the back 6.
Well said.

Is there any wonder we haven't home grown a key forward at our club in the last 10 years or since C Grant when our fans want to move blokes like Jones back. You think Sydney will be saying the about Sam Reid or Power about Butcher, or did the pies ever send T Cloke back when he had kicking problems ??

In short Jones managed to get 4 or 5 chances to kick goals against a gun full back. Execution was the only thing letting him down and I don't think playing down back will help that aspect of his game but I do think the fact he would be made to punch more than mark may decay his best asset - his marking.

All our fans should remember one big big thing - Confidence is the major component to accurate kicking. If our fans are moaning and groaning when he misses it aint going to help his set shots. Its the reason everyone bronx cheers when guys like Cloke and Thomas miss.

Lets get right behind the kid and excuse the sort of mistakes he made last week without adding to the pressures and responsibilities he is already being asked to shoulder.

Na. He's our best long term KPF prospect. His major deficiencies as a KPF are composure and accuracy kicking for goal, either set shots or snaps, and fitness to execute the hard leading required.

He isn't going to benefit in either of these areas at CHB. Leave him where he is to learn and develop. He's coming along.

Sorry to intrude but- Hooray finally someone with some sense - You guys need someone who can kick goals - Send Jones back to VFL to get some practice at goal kicking cos obviously he is struggling to kick in the AFL. I agree with your comments on last weekend's game - Goals win games!!!
