AFL: Date set for Jurrah trial

MELBOURNE forward Liam Jurrah will have to wait until March to face a Northern Territory Supreme Court jury.

The trial has been set down for March 12 next year, and been slated to run for nine days.

Jurrah is charged with one count of unlawfully causing serious harm and three counts of aggravated assault.

The 23-year-old will front court along with two co-accused.

Will we go for a 1 yr contract given the circumstances or perhaps go with a longer one with exclusion options? Other contracts will no doubt be a priority now you'd think.

Could he be a rookie list option?? I know he is better than a rookie, but given the timing of when the trial is, he may not be right for the first few rounds.. And knowing our luck with injuries, rookie listers are certain starters!!

I think we should offer a 1 year contract, I don't reckon we should commit to anything longer than that when we and he are unsure if he will return to AFL football at all. Liam has a lot of things he has to work out as higher priorities than football at the moment.

Yeah we'd have to put him on the rookie list with a one year contract.

Bloody hell - March next year! This saga is taking forever to conclude. He should be put on rookie list on minimal pay until the resolution of the case, if he gets off they can decide on what's a fair match payment schedule if he makes it back.

Means we'd have to delist him and then hope he's not snapped up before the rookie draft.

I would hope they will re-sign him. Maybe two years with exit clauses or one year straight up. We need to continue to show support and Innocence until proven guilty.

Agreed. We've gone this far, we should see it through. But we should make sure we don't suffer financially for keeping him on our list. I'm sure Liam would understand that. You can't expect to be paid if you're in prison or unavailable to play or train.
