I thought Port had more or less committed to picking him up? Would be a good get for them if he can sort out his off field issues.

He will go to port, it will be either a massive positive that he will be happy in SA
or a massive negative if he starts to clown around in SA and gets in more trouble

It's Power or no one ..as much as other clubs may admire his talent they would see even once the off field issue is finalized its in his best interest to be in Adelaide with his family..

I can't say I've been following the case recently, but just to check I've got this right..

Clubs wont look at Garlett, because he might stuff up, but (at least one) will look at a guy who currently has criminal proceedings against him?

They will both likely go as a rookie so they are quite similar. But they are different and I would be disappointed if Garlett wasn't picked up. With Jurrah it is more than just the legal proceedings he was a hell of a lot of work for Melbourne. While Garlett maybe a risk I would love Melbourne to pick him.

Garlett has no runs on the board at AFL level and is heavily into smoking, drinking and other things.

Jurrah has played AFL and kicks 2 or 3 a game.

Jurrah over all has a good behaviour record and if it wasn't for the language barrier, and how shy a fella from the bush can be around a group of white fellas, he'd be leadership material.

He is obviously facing serious charges and if he was involved it was actually an obligation on him to do so. I doubt very much that he'll be found guilty though. With a QC defending him and every witness pointing the finger at him being very drunk at the time of the event. There are some saying he didn't do it who were also drunk but a few sober ones too.

It will certainly play on his mind and don't expect him to have a clear head this year. However, living with his grandmother in Adelaide he'll be in a good place mentally as she was the person who raised him. Reports in the paper were that he turned up to his first training in amazing shape too. In a year or two he and Butcher could be a formidable combination, especially if one of their young ruckmen develops into a fantastic 2nd ruck/forward.

Good luck to him. Undeniable talent and would add spark to that Port forward line with Monfries as well. Would bring a few more people back to Power matches as well

From what Ive heard this week the clubs favorite son and premiership captain Tredrea has spoken out strongly against rookie drafting him

So long as he gets away from his criminal charges it could only be a positive for him and a club struggling with attendances

The advantage of a combination between Jurrah and (if he reaches anywhere near his full potential) Butcheris that a lot of clubs don't have one player who is capable of going with both of them athletically AND aerially, let alone two. Plonk a properly developed Mason Shaw in the goalsquare to clunk long balls and to lead when the opportunity arises (Schulz will play that role in the meantime, and if his form when fit this season is any indication he'll play it very well) and let Butcher and Jurrah run riot around the 50, and very few teams would be able to stop that forward line.
Not sure if serious.

Would that forwardline even worry the likes of GWS three years from now?

I doubt it.

Jurrah was still as soft as butter and lazy without the ball.

Amazing how a player's reputation grows after being out of the game for some time.

Excuse me if I don't rate the opinion of somebody who would take Matthew Kreuzer over Taylor Walker too highly.

That's pretty harsh but there is an element of truth to it. Amazingly talented however his defensive game wasn't great, opposition teams generally used Jurrah's player to run the ball out of defense.

Regardless, I hope his AFL journey doesn't stop now, it would be a great shame. However, if he is found guilty of the charges is there any place for him in the AFL?

Andrew Krakouer spent time behind bars and was able to get a second chance so it is theoretically possible that Jurrah could get another chance if the court case doesn't end well.

In that scenario it would all depend on whether a club would be willing to take the risk.

True, however Krakouer wasn't found guilty of wielding a machete.
