He'd shown significant improvement each year he'd been on the list in terms of his ruck work and his capacity to play other roles. I think if we hadn't already divested ourselves of so many players, and we hadn't had development somewhat curtailed by CV19 in 2020, he might have been at risk. But I think it's good they've given him another year.
Maybe cautious after the Jon Ceglar stuff up

Pretty sure we drafted Grundy that year, as well as having Jolly and Witts on the list.

We Drafted Grundy after we De-Listed.

Jolly was Pretty Much Finished and Witts had not Cemented a Spot in the AFL Side

And both Witts and Grundy ended up being better rucks than Ceglar by a fair margin. Still not seeing the mistake, unless you’re saying the few weeks between delisting Ceglar and drafting Grundy made us lack ruck depth...

Then we would just had Witts and not much Depth

Pretty sure the club would have drafted a ruck in 2012 after delisting Ceglar, regardless of whether it was Grundy or not. You’re not making a particularly strong case here Dave.

Well I watched him in the VFL and I thought he showed a Bit in the Games

I’d actually argue Gault showed much more in his first 4 seasons than Lynch has. He ultimately never went close to delivering, but he did at least tease us with potential and is now dominating in the WAFL. Both of which Lynch hasn’t done (tease us) and probably won’t either (dominate at state league level).
I can remember a couple of Gault l Joe the gooses in the nab and few good grabs.

I don't understand why Lynch was not delisted. In his one senior game last year, I thought he showed nothing to suggest he is ever going to be an AFL player. As for the athleticism he is meant to possess, or the speed he seems to show in the time trials this season, evidence of either attribute escaped me too. He is 22 so I guess has another year or so to show that he might have something to offer, but if I was list manager, which fortunately for Lynch and many others I am not, I'd have put a line through his name several months back.

Im agnostic on Lynch and his long term prospects, but I wouldn't take the slightest bit of notice on his one senior game. The kid is a ruckman not a forward. If he gets a run at the one position he can play (ruck) and bombs out - fair enough, but don't hang draw and quarter him based on one game where he played out of position

That's the challenge for him. Getting opportunity in that ruck role or continue to develop his positional flexibility. His work forward of the footy seemed to improve in 2019 at VFL level. Needs to continue to work on that. Still only 22 so young in terms of a ruckman, has time on his side.

With Grundy and Cameron on the list, I can't help but feel that if he becomes good enough for the AFL, we're developing him for another club to use.

He’s 7 years from getting a crack at his number 1 role which is why he needs a second string. Even then he’s going to be 3rd in line behind Cameron for the foreseeable future.

My take is you only need two pure ruckman on your list in 2021 and a couple of guys that are predominately forwards who can chop out in an emergency (both Cameron and Grundy go down) so the better list management play was adding another 195cm plus forward option, IMO. Although I can see why the club didn’t considering how high list turnover was already.

I would have gone with a defender so they could release Roughy to ruck in case of emergency. Perhaps that's what they're doing with Briskey.

Said in Article said Briskey was a Tall Defender

Don’t mind the idea of Roughead being supplanted at full back in the next 12-15 months...but then going on the rookie list for a year as a ‘break glass in emergency’ 3rd string ruck and full back depth. I think even at (by then) 32 years old Roughead would be a better 3rd string ruck option than Lynch

For this reason, no matter his physical attributes... I see no point in persevering with Lynch unless in 2021 he shows decent ability to play ruck forward or full back.

That story will be told this season but I think by seasons end Lynch will supplant Roughy based purely on his pace and athleticism.
