Had a good year last year as a 20 year old small forward playing for the Subiaco Lions in the WAFL kicking 40 goals for the year. Did not manage to record a score higher than 9 in the beep test at the state combine, however, and thus was overlooked in the draft. Has started this season right where he left off with 11 goals in the first 3 games including 6 goals last weekend. If he has improved his fitness surely a good chance to be drafted this year?

I expected him to go in the main draft last year. IIRC his testing results at the state combine were abysmal which may have put clubs off. However is a natural footballer and appears very athletically gifted out on the grass so if it were me I would have discounted the value of those results.

Will see how he goes in another year of senior footy but would not surprise me if he gets picked up after another dominant year.

I'm a local hack in mid-division Victorian Amateurs and even I can get a 12 point something in a beep test. How unfit for football can a supposedly elite player get?

And still kill it at wafl seniors level ..pretty sure he had no pre season and came from country footy
Interesting to see how he goes at the combine this year

Has Liam Ryan taken the WAFL’s mark of the year - already?
Early in the third term at Leederville Oval, Ryan launched himself over four players to clutch the ball in spectacular fashion before crashing to the turf.

Even more impressively – Ryan went back and slotted the set-shot goal in composed fashion.

The Geraldton product’s latest screamer is sure to help his hopes of earning an AFL berth at season’s end.

I was one that expected him to go late in the main draft. After he wasn't selected I had hope we'd pick him the rookie draft.
I Think we'll regret not taking him when we had the opportunity to get him so cheaply, especially now that Yarran is gone and Ballas is old and perennially injured. Thankfully Croz and Grey have really stepped up and Langdon has shown the ability to play the small forward role.

but gee wiz, if he get's his fitness up and keeps/improves his WAFL form he'll have to be taken somewhere after pick 40 in the main draft this year.

Before last years testing would not have been surprised to see him taken that early either.

Transitioning into professional footy from a poor endurance base is never a fait accompli (well, it's not a given for 95% of players regardless of their athletic ability), but another dominant year and there's really no reason not to give him a shot at it.

Very surprised that there were no takers last year. On talent alone was worth a rookie spot on someone's list. Fitness can be improved on in an elite environment so that shouldn't have been a concern.

Looking at the performance of blokes like Betts, Walters ect it's amazing that a guy with Liam's skill set wasn't worthy of a list spot.

Let's hope he kicks 50 or 60 and really demands a spot at this years draft. The AFL needs players that bring that sort of excitement to the game.

Liam Ryan had 16 disposals and kicked another 5 goals in the WAFL Round 6 taking his tally to 24 goals from 6 games.

Another fan here !! Three in the premiership quarter, OK Think Subi ...

From The West:
Ryan weaved his magic in the second half after being held to one goal in the first two quarters by Harrison McCracken.

The 20-year-old shook that tag in style, kicking each of Subiaco’s three goals for the third stanza and the first of the last when the Lions rattled on eight unanswered goals to extinguish the Tigers challenge.

Demonstrates how bastardised the concept of a rookie draft has become.

50 up :thumbsu: ....
Subiaco reminded Peel of their qualities with a grinding 46-point win to make it 15 victories in a row.
Ryan finished with four goals to move to 50 for the season, attempted several moon shots and completed a handful of brilliant marks to indicate he was returning to his best form after a quiet month.

Not dedicated to the team, soft when competing vs magician with the ball.
I don't think he will be drafted this year unfortunately. If he wanted to be he could be Anything.

Thats why I posted the mid 30s suggestion by Brett Anderson who is a strong believer that the coming draft is very shallow, & a mature age (as Liam Ryan is) so early adds to the cred.
By comparison Sam Menegola went to the Cats at 66.

I think he definitely go's, but like Menegola, somewhere in the 45-65 range.

Tim Kelly will be the bolter, quick/powerful ball winning mids don't grow on tree's, could go top 30 imo.
