Rumour Liam Ryan

Oh this is hilarious. I was just wondering when a Daniel Chick story might come up this week and then this shyte appears.

He received a two week ban. A young indigenous player making a mistake is more understandable than a team captain Luke Hodge blowing 0.068 before the 2015 finals series and only getting a small fine of $450. Ryan was actually punished by his club. Public shaming of Ryan wouldn’t have achieved anything. Leave the kid alone

Just saw you also posted this to the Pies board and they rightly kicked it to the curb. Bit embarrassing.

Probably time to grow up and move on, instead of being upset that the media didn't drive a budding star away from the game hey?

Let’s see what happens tomorrow

Awesome. Shall we close the thread now?

Sorry I thought this was a rumour and scandal thread and I posted something about a case previously unreported/updated in the media. Feel free to stop commenting if it’s a non issue.

I didn’t say they banned him because of mental health you twit. I said they used that as an excuse to gloss over that fact he was pissed.

I can’t see where they’ve used that as an excuse at all. It’s you that’s made a link between “personal” issues being mental health issues.

Sounds like his had a fight with his partner, stupidly jumped in his car and driven off which has resulted in him having an accident.

The club has released all the information that it is required to do. They don’t have to give us a blow by blow description of events leading up to, during and after. They’ve supplied the facts, punished him and he’s about to cop another whack - no story here for you.

You’re right, this is boring. I’m off

I wouldn't have thought the club could release many details about the case anyway seeing as it is a legal matter about to go before the courts

It was reported in the media, now you are just making shit up. A simple Google search prove this.

At the time the Eagles gave him a 2 week ban, the club released a media statement and he will face the courts next month. What more updates would you like exactly?

Your decision to start the thread today, as well as posting it on the Pies board saying it's ammunition for Saturday shows what your ulterior motives are.

first I have heard of this.. he is obviously a newbie to the system and it seems that 'everyone' is crashing his party.

trust the media to grasp the nettle and chew the cud and all that other good stuff of media brainwashing..

shovel the dirt and then apologise later..

not happy dude..

Not sure how you can say it's a cover up when EVERYONE knows about it, and it's going through the judicial process.

He was sent back to the WAFL for two weeks - more than certified good bloke Hodgey.

Typical small bloke syndrome. Freo troll needs to rip other people down to build themselves up. Pathetic.

I love it how the Freo Clan come in and bag out a West Coast player for pissy driving when their own clowns get done for Cocaine, no comparison.

No sure what this has to do with Freo?

The reason I posted it today is because that’s when I found out he had been charged. Plenty of people (including on this site) have claimed he had been drinking but wasn’t over the limit and crashed his car as a result of an argument with the mrs. That is clearly not accurate as he has now been charged with DD. Take it as a personal attack or whatever you like but if it was a player from any other club you would be jumping all over it, as I suspect the local press would too. Look at De Goey for example. Everyone wanted him sacked. He got a 10k fine from the club, banished and not allowed to train with the squad for over a month and forced to work as laborer and do charity work.

Bit of a difference between having 1 too many beers at a mid week function and blowing 0.06 (which is a fine in WA and no loss of license) to blowing over 0.08 at 5am after crashing your car, doing a runner and refusing a breath test.

There's no difference at all. Both had alcohol in their system and shouldn't have been driving. Full stop - don't make excuses for people that jeopardize the safety and well being of others on the road.

Your assertion is that it's a cover up. You're blatantly wrong - so how about you slink back under the rock from which you came and just let people be happy.

That wasn't DeGoeys first off field incident which is why the penalty was harsher

Is that when he drove drunk or hit the bloke at a party?

What is ur obsession with Liam?

Yes, it's amazing what you hear about your players Grand Final week :)
Only came out because he was listed in the court documents. Otherwise would have been swept under the carpet like most West Coast things in Perth. At no point has the WA media ever reported he was drunk and refused a breathe test and was taken to hospital so they could do a blood test.

A Freo player gets a move on order ( which isnt even a police charge) and its three days news.

The grand final preparations of West Coast's high flying forward Liam Ryan have been disrupted by the news he faces a date before magistrate next month, after being charged with drink driving following a car crash in early July.

Police found Ryan in an Armadale park, not far from a damaged Toyota Rav4, soon after the 6am incident, following an argument with his partner.

Ryan had been due at a school holiday coaching clinic just three hours later and at a training session that afternoon.

Instead, he spent the morning with Eagles officials as the club sought to establish how he had been involved in what police described as a “minor” crash on Devonshire Terrace, Armadale.

Today it emerged Ryan has been formally charged by police, who had been waiting for the results of a blood test taken from the 21 year-old at the time.

He has been ordered to appear before a court in Armadale on October 9, to face an allegation of exceeding 0.08g alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The timing of the charge is hugely unfortunate, given Ryan is a key plank of the Eagles forward line heading into the grand final showdown against Collingwood on Saturday.

He said nothing, but was smiling broadly, as he swept through Perth airport yesterday afternoon, shadowed by Eagles staff.

West Coast released a statement this afternoon saying they were aware Ryan would face drink driving charges in October, as the result of the July incident.

“While Ryan was suspended for two AFL games by the club at the time, it has and will continue to work closely with him, with his health and wellbeing always being a priority,” the statement said.

“The club has kept the AFL informed of all circumstances around this incident and Liam has at all times co-operated fully with police.

“The club understands the media interest around the situation, but as this is an on-going legal matter and it involves sensitive personal issues around Liam’s health and well being, there will be no further comment until the legal process has been concluded."

Where does it say he refused a breath test? He was charged with exceed 0.08 according to that document meaning he provided a sample.

If he refused he would be charged with Failing to provide a sample (not sure of exact charge wording)which carrys the same penalty as DUI which is excess 0.15 in WA

He was charged from a blood sample and not a breathalyser. Thats why the police took him to the hospital. He refused the breathalyser but agreed to the blood test.

Amazing the number of West Coast supporters seemingly perfectly ok with getting behind the wheel after you've had a few.

He's served a club ban already and will face the courts and be punished accordingly shortly.

No ones condoned it or supported it

Thats not how it works. You refuse a breath test you get charged you cant elect to have bloods.
Edit: Sorry should add its likely he was either knocked out or had injuries to his mouth meaning bloods were taken.

Yes you can. It’s a common tactic to delay proceedings in an attempt to get the reading lower by time you get to hospital.
