Rumour Liam Ryan

Except the WA media pack basically hounded Shane Yarran to death. Bradley Hill gets a move on notice and it's page three in The West. Harley Balic goes home to Melbourne to try and sort out his mental health issues and it's the lead item on Seven News.

Ryan, by contrast, drinks and drives and gets written up as a rags-to-riches feel good story last week, with the charges buried on page 16 today.

Two days of bad press when your Coach and CEO tried to excuse your star midfielder breaking a teenager's jaw doesn't excuse the massive double standard from your media sponsors.
The fans of your club have a serious victim complex.

Amazing how sensitive Eagles supporters are about the easy ride they get from the media.

It's right there on the website guys - not sure why you're so sheepish.
Seven West media is a sponsor of both clubs, as you know.

There's no real equivalency between mid tier sponsorship and a "principal media partnership" (whatever that entails - not favourable coverage apparently!)
Yes, of course not. Seven West just became a partner of Freo so they could continually undermine them. That makes sense I guess. :D

I've got no idea how or why Stokes makes the decisions he makes. Doesn't change the easy ride you get from his two outlets that are your top tier sponsors.

Can't see the silver sponsorship getting us similar treatment, somehow.

Maybe your principal partners can team up to get Leaping Liam to front their next anti-drink driving campaign?

I'm sure you can't.

The staffer incident was a big story for multiple days in The West though, I guess the cheques hadn't cleared yet. And became an even bigger story on 7 post-Gaff when tied in with some nebulous 'cultural issues'. But maybe that was just the club getting it's right whack, and they certainly didn't hold back.

It's been fun venturing down the rabbit hole with you FBF but I don't think we're making any progress.

I'm not sure why you're trying to dissemble here. They didn't touch it for four days - as Media Watch pointed out - until the Saturday, after the club had issued an apology.

I certainly think the pushback they got on it had some influence on the Gaff coverage - but even that disappeared pretty quickly.

Somehow I don't think you guys will ever be convinced.;)

Another paranoid myth from the purples

Eg

The WA media would have known Shane Yarran was under investigation for his role in a stabbing, however they didn’t report it until AFTER charges were laid. There was no rumours floated around prior to him being arrested.
Yarran was found not guilty or the charges were dropped for every indlcident prior to his delisting. The police were as much to blame as the media, as someone without his reputation would have never been charged. After he was hounded he ended up back on the gear. Sad story. Had he been treated as Ryan it may have been completeĺy different.

Yarran was acquitted of his charges post delisting/retirement.

Ryan didn't have the past history of extreme violence that Yarran did. If Ryan does reoffend I wouldn't expect him to get as much leeway as a first offence.

Yarran did also get the same redemption/fluff pieces as well which gets glossed over.

Ryan clearly treated with kiddy gloves.

Was an absolute load of toss the way Simpson spoke about it ‘yeah we’re going to get around him... our greatest concern is his mental health’

What a load of toss. Bloke was drink driving, over the limit, broke the law and the greater story was how it made him better! What an absolute load of BS.

I agree that personal incidents shouldn’t be media driven but any Eagle poster thinking there hasn’t been double standards is still living like it’s 2006 I.E with their head in the sand.

I don't get why anybody would steer and then drive their vehicle into a tree even if they were blind drunk. Seems like a pretty strange thing to do.

West Coast are a major influence in this state of many things and some may be negative from some peoples perspective but by enlarge the good totally over shadows the bad. If the day comes along where they become this Juggernaut that steam rolled society and the bottom dollar become more important than lives then that is the day I will stand up with and shout "Death" to the Corporatocracy.

But this Great Club is a pillar of Conservatism and Family Values. You only have to look at how many Foundations, Charities and Organisations they support to see they are not this big "Evilcorp" you think they are mate.

Don't spoil their narrative. They've got zilch to hang their hat on otherwise.

You've never been blind drunk. I can tell.

It's not the clubs fault they are sponsored by TheWest. Naturally TheWest is going to report favourably, but you're kidding yourself if you think there's equal representation.

Only need to look at the media too. I mean Barich reads the news for crying out loud? The guy can't EVER do it without stuttering or pausing or stuffing up his words.

How many Nic Nat Channel 7 specials do they do? Kidding youself if you don't think there's major dollars going towards him there.

I don't think The Eagles are 'Evil Corp'. They're a tremendous club.

But both clubs aren't treated equally.

The Liam Ryan incident is a microcosm of the big picture. It was all 'mental health and get around him'.

Tell me. Were Johnson, Bennell, Yarran, Hill afforded the same?? Not a chance.

Lastly, charities?? All clubs do that mate. They ain't Mother Teresa there.

Both clubs aren't equal. And where has this right to equal treatment come from? The media does what's best for them. If they think they are better off sucking up to us that's what they'll do. If they think they are better off sticking the boot in like with the Peter Staples and Gaff/Brayshaw incidents then that's what they'll do. If they think they are better off going easy like during the mid-2000s then that's what they'll do. It's not on our account.

Do you think we get favourable coverage a lot of the time because we have them in our pocket or there is some conspiracy? Use your brain. We have more fans, more people who consume their shitty ass coverage so the product is a result of that.

Your long winded although well articulated comments basically just reinforce what I said.

Cheers.

It's true, we control the media with an iron fist and there's nothing you can do about it.

And if you don't stop digging we will instruct our journalists to destroy you.

Cease your investigations post-haste.
Lol calling them journalists..

I think the club and the media handled the Ryan one well. We don't need to crucify a kid with a young family and living away from home. People fck up.

I hope it works that way for both clubs in the future. Though it really doesn't help when there's footage ala Bennell and Johnson.

Oh lordy, the Alt-Fyfe is out in force. I know Freo supporters in real life, some i'm even fond of, but christ they're some loons on here.
