Official Club Stuff Libba knee injury - 2015 season over

Whilst I too prefer to look at these issues with positivity, it's not really with the Moyd and Goodes replacements (blessings in disguise however) I gain solace from. It's more that of Wallis now has the opportunity gaining the respect of many of his detractors (and believe me, he WILL stick it up you cynics!!). Clay Smith to earn the #1 Inside mid title at the kennel around mid season and demonstrate what a beast he is going to be. I'd like to add the chosen one to this elite clique, but I'm still not convinced Prudden is a real person. That stretcher was carrying a crash test dummy, NOT an AFL player. Until Josh actually lines up in a couple of consecutive matches, I'll consider anything he achieves as a bonus. Speaking of players with detractors, come on down Lin Jong. Speed AND strength is uncommon dual traits when Footscray mids are discussed. I'm being overly optimistic you say. Try this.... by pre-season 2016 we'll be debating how the hell we are going to squeeze Libber back into the team.

Absolute crap s**t news .
Time for Mitch Wallis to step out of his shadow me thinks.
Just hope some on here can go the distance in what is shaping up as a tough year.

Really sorry to hear this news guys. Nobody likes injuries like this to young blokes - from any team. All the best for the year ahead.

Midfielder Tom Liberatore will miss the 2015 premiership season after scans today revealed a torn ACL in his left knee.

Liberatore injured his knee in a tackle in the first quarter of yesterday’s NAB Challenge match against Richmond and did not return to the field.

Liberatore will undergo a traditional ACL repair later this week, after a meeting with the knee specialist earlier today.

Absolute shitful news.

Just have to hope that he has the right types around him to assist with the recovery process and doesn't try to come back too soon. An extra couple of weeks/months out is more preferable to coming back early and risking your career in a team that (no offense meant) is not challenging for a flag at the moment. Get the body right and come back to help lift the team to those heights once ready.

Softly Softly, Slowly slowly like we took with Swallow, the careful approach pays off.

Commiserations on Libba's injury. ACLs are horrible. Regardless, I think you guys have the best crop of young players in the league. I'd kill to get Bont, Macrae, Stringer etc at the Cats. Rest assured that when those guys have played 40-50 games and the Dogs are pushing up the ladder, Liberatore will back on the field where he belongs.

Good luck for season 2015.

This is a big opportunity for Clay Smith if he stays injury free once he comes back, also expecting big things from Caleb Daniel, Bont is likely only going to get better but nobody can replace Libba individually we need a team effort if we are going to go anywhere this year but down the ladder.

Hope Libba all the best in his recovery

Has anyone at our club ever had a lars? Pretty sure they haven't so why not? If libba had 3 month recovery he'd be back by june, still play half a season.

Malceski, Rodan, young Menzel seem to be going fine with theirs.

No way should Libba get lars. It's not like he's a 32 year old we need to rush back for finals.

Just go traditional, we're gonna be s**t anyway, no need to rush. I want Libba fit for day one preseason, which he will be provided no complications.

Clay Smith had the full reco. So did Darce back in the day. Both reinjured almost straight away. There is an element of luck both in how the injury occurs and how well the surgery takes, so I don't see lars being that bad an option given one quarter of recovery time.

The difference is that a traditional reco requires an incident like Libba's for the ACL to rupture again, while LARS grafts are almost guaranteed to fail at some point. You don't know when that failure will be; it could happen at any time. I'd rather Libba take the year off than come back in a few months then have the LARS fail when we're contending in finals or something.

Yes I've heard this too. But the LARs operations over the last few years have survived well, and I'm assuming the technology is getting better and better. With 10 years left in libbas career, at what point do you say we'll gamble on 2-3 3 month lars, as opposed to losing an entire season at his prime, with no guarantee of a better result?

Anyway not that my whinging will change anything. It just annoys me that our doctors stick with same old same old. We know what happened with cooney.
