But don't take my word on it.

Former Bulldog hardman Daniel Southern commenting on last Friday's clash for 3LO observed that Liberatore pulled up short to avoid putting his body into a marking contest.

This happened in the second quarter when the fearsome David Bourke marked on the end of a long lead.

Southern noted that Libba was in a position to get in front of Bourke and block his approach to the ball, while also being a chance to mark himself but pulled out, allowing Bourke to mark unimpeded.

I wish I had a transcript of Southern's words - they were a little bemused and weren't particularly flattering.

Did anyone else hear this comment?

on the subject of the match i watched sportsworld yesterday and they were interviewing supporters on friday night on the knights/thugatore incident and while collingwood supporters are the most one-eyed in the comp this just has to take the cake.they asked two female doggy fans on the subject and their reply?knights was hit by his own teamate lmao.
cheers!

speaking of soft, how about Richo ??? If he doesnt take the mark thats the end of the play for him. Bloody funny sight watching richo drop a mark then take a breather in the goal-square while his fellow forwards fight their hearts out to regain possession, only metres away.

weak as piss.

drop the mark, throw the arms up, and look for the umpire to whinge!!

matthew richardson, YOU ARE ****HOUSE!

While not disputing Richo's (in)capacity for second efforts, I really don't think that this falls into the definition of "soft". To me, being soft is the unwillingness to do the hard things that may easily result in injury.

In this respect, I don't think Richo is soft, just occasionaly petulant! BTW, Richo did astound us all on Friday night by actually chasing on a few occasions! I wish he would do it a lot more because he is so quick that he automatically puts pressure on the ball carrier.

What you want Chris is to somehow "infuse" Richardson with Paul Kelly's attitude, and kamakaze approach to the ball and opponents.

You'd then have one dangerous brilliant footballer:D

You're right, I'm not going to take your word for it, or any other Tiger supporter's for that matter. As for YOUR definition of soft, ie

"To me, being soft is the unwillingness to do the hard things that may easily result in injury. "

its pretty obvious that Libba has excelled in getting the hard ball over the years. Anyhow, that's only one person's definition of soft.

As for Danny Southern, it is pretty obvious that since he left the Doggies, he has had an axe to grind over some issue, given his comments on the Knights/Libba incident and "Wallace's instructions". He wouldn't be the first or last ex-player to push his own barrow. Hell, he's in the media now, so making the odd controversial statement is one of the tools of the trade. All part of playing the game. Big deal.

It's interesting to hear different supporters views on their games.

I was at the game on Friday as a neutral observer, not really caring who won.
What I did notice however was that Richo played like **** all night with the exception of 15 minutes in the last quarter. Obviously Tiger supporters will only remember those 15 minutes (and rightly so) and declare that he had a good game.

On the other hand I thought Libba was one of the Doggies best all night. (and I'm no Libba fan!)

Strange how we all see things differently when it suits us.

It'd be interesting to see how Richo would do at Arden Street. Sav Rocca has been criticised in the past for not putting in the second effort and for dropping his head, but you won't be hearing any complaints from North fans on these issues. If he doesn't win the ball, he'll do everything he can to win it back or at least, keep it in the North forward line. He chases and he puts pressure on the opposition defender. Sav's newfound fitness has definitely helped him in this aspect of his game....I'm not too sure about the state of Richo's fitness, but I wonder how much of his "softness" or "petulance" (call it what you will) has to do with attitude and how much it has to do with fitness because on purely athletic terms, Richo would leave Sav for dead.

I do admit though, Sav and Richo from 20m directly in front of goal....with both, you can't be too confident. :p

Interesting comments.
First of all about Richo, he isn't soft. However he does whinge, a bit dissapointing as if he didn't do it, he might play a bit better.

Libba is a good tackler, if that gives him a 'tough' image isn't almost everyone tough? Perhaps he is soft. I didn't see the incident so i can't really say much. But it sounds like a soft sign to me.
I'm sure a lot of people think he is a hard at it kinda guy but i think it is situations like that that prove how gutsy you are.

Dissapointing Libba, we all though you were a tough little guy :D.

Liberatore being labelled soft - by a Richmond supporter no less!!!
I can hardly type this for laughing.
Don't you just wish you had a few "soft" players like him at Richmond.

Libba was camera shy on Friday night, that's why he wasn't up to his old behind the play scratching, punching, kicking etc.......

The people who start threads like this and the ones agreeing with them seem to be Tigers supporters. Geez, I wonder why?

By the way, don't call Danny Southern a credible witness, LOL .....

i would hardly call Liberator soft because of one incident.

for a guys hes size to top the tacklin for 4 or 5 consecutive years, i find it impossible to calll him soft.

The people who disagree with the thread seem to be mostly bulldogs fans. Geez, I wonder why?

WCE, i pretty much agree with you. I never called him soft. However i don't think he is as tough as everyone assumes.

I'm the only Dogs supporter disagreeing , others mainly seem to be from other clubs, so I don't see your point.

As for CJH, you haven't actually called him soft yourself, have you? Just leaving the suggestion to someone else and repeating it. Soft option.

You know your right about that. But if there were more dogs fans (i know there are .. are they too scared to face the facts though?) they would disagree. Just human nature to defend your club i guess ...

What do you mean? Too scared (????) to face what facts - some stupid comment about Libba being soft quoted by someone who won't say it in their own words? Doubtless, there are plenty of Doggies fans who would agree with me, and a heap more of other teams supporters who may hate his guts, but not too many would never be stupid enough to suggest he is soft. And by the way, I'm defending Libba here, not the club.

You want to know about soft, then what about that twit Daffy. You won't hear too many Doggies supporters calling for the trading of Libba, but I heard quite a few Tigers supporters on Friday night asking for the trading of Daffy, who just lerves the ol behind-the-play hit himself, just ask Rohan Smith.
