Is 150 games the norm for life membership at other AFL clubs?
I can't comment for every club but a quick Google search revealed the criteria for St Kilda and Hawthorn: 150 games OR 10 years service. So it would appear we are on par with other clubs in this regard.

In case anyone is wondering, here is a list of our players that sit between 100-150 games and could be in line for life membership over the next few years:

Tom Lynch - 131 games
Michael Rischitelli - 120 games
Steven May - 119 games
David Swallow - 113 games
Sam Day - 110 games
Aaron Hall - 103 games
Rory Thompson - 102 games

How great is it that the first three life members of our club are all Queenslanders!

John Witheriff is a born and bred Gold Coaster who has been one of the biggest mover and shaker in the city's history over the last few decades. Bob Gordon is a retired journalist who grew up in Brisbane and spent lots of time all over the country but relocated permanently to the GC in the 90s. Both Witheriff and Gordon are GPS boys who attended Nudgee College in Brisbane. Then we have Cairns born and raised Jarrod Harbrow, who we all love for his commitment to the club and indigenous affairs.

Anyone want to guess who might be the next player to reach life membership? Rischa has played 125 games for us but I doubt he'll end up playing an extra 25 AFL games before he retires. Swallow has played 117 AFL games for us and is probably the most likely to reach life membership before anyone else. Beyond that, you start to get into injury prone guys like Sam Day and Rory Thompson who have played a little over 100 AFL games for us.

Touk miller probably the most likely to play 150 for the suns. Maybe Sean Lemmens.

Should also mention that inaugural board members Bob East and Paul Scurrah were also inducted as life members on the night, recognised for their 10 years of service to the club.

Congrats to Secco who will become just the third player in our history to reach 150 games and gain life membership. You'd have to think he's a fantastic chance to play over 200 games for us considering he's 27 years old at the moment. Bonus that he grew up just up the road in Logan which makes two of the three playing life members Queenslanders. Perhaps a born and bred Gold Coaster will be on the cards soon?

Sam Day should be the next player to reach 150 next year given he's just 7 games short right now. Touk will shock a few next year and reach 150 at the tender age of 26 if keeps going because he's already reached 133 games. Will Touk be our first ever 300 gamer? Sean Lemmens is next in line but only has 109 games to his name and is never really a lock to play so it could take Sean a few years to get there.

Moved from my area in Melbourne to Queensland when he was 14.

A big congratulations to our skipper Touk Miller for bringing up the big 150 in this Saturday's game against North Melbourne. In doing so Touk will become a life member of the Gold Coast Football Club which will be officially recognised at our B&F night later this year. Hopefully that takes place in October and hopefully the club has a live stream set up this time because we all want to watch Touk receive his life membership through a live broadcast from Star Casino!

Here's a flashback to Touk's first day at the club:

Is that Ben Crocker behind him in the kitchen? Didn’t know he ever trained with us

We should probably hassle the club early x10000 times for a live stream

Nothing but surely what he gave should be recognised at some stage

Yeh he gave while here but he also set himself up financially for life and he didn’t stick it out.

If he was up here once a month mentoring our players and continuing to help us grow, I would probably think differently 🤷‍♂️

I think Ablett will eventually be recognised for his contributions to our club but it feels a little too recent that he left us high and dry in a time of desperation. Give it another 3-5 years when we're regularly making finals/winning premierships and I think our supporter base will gladly recognise the fact that he played a huge part in the establishment of our club, was our first ever Brownlow Medallist, our first ever All-Australian and won our B&F four times.
