Crows managing to draw a game after being down 50 points in the 3rd quarter.
McGovern's pack mark (and finish) with a second left in the game. How does a Collingwood player not spoil that.
Several close games. Great to watch, especially as a neutral supporter.

Learned
This is a very even season and good form may take any of the top 8 deep into the finals.
50 points is not a big enough lead to be safe.
The Crows struggle when they can't break roughly even on contested possessions.

Hated
Sunday games after a Friday night game the week before. 10 days feels like an eternity!
That the Crows were down 50 points against a team that will miss the finals.
That Fremantle and St Kilda couldn't hold on for some wins against other top 4 contenders.

Liked - We don't have to play Hawthorn again.(They ain't making finals, we might not either )
Disliked- Robbie Gray (you ****er)
Learned- I hate watching games in Tassie even on TV

Hated - The Dangerfield Circus. Should not be ban because it wasn't that bad, should be ban because others have gone for less, wont be ban bevcause of who he is and what he has not done. The AFL have made this mess not the player.
Sums it up perfectly! Should not get suspended. It was just a good strong tackle. If they are consistent, he should get suspended but he won't because it's Dangerfield. This will make it worse for those who got suspended for tackles no worse than this.

Hey just wondering what gives you the idea Dangerfield gets treated differently than other players, has he done this before? I've only watched him closely since he's been at Geelong and he's far from a dirty player, you've obviously watched him more so maybe you know something we don't.

It's more to do with the AFL protecting the better players, not Dangerfield specifically. As a Brownlow favourite, the AFL have shown in the past they will likely go easier on him to prevent the winner missing out on the medal because of a suspension.

Happened with Fyfe a couple of years back, will happen again this year, will happen again in the near future. I'd rather they get rid of the fairest tag for the Brownlow, not because I really want to get rid of it but it's become meaningless as the AFL just get around it. Unless someone gives them no choice - i.e. a punch behind play - then they'll find a way to grade it so that the best players only get a fine and remain eligible.

The irony is that if they wanted to get rid of that type of tackle then all they really need to do is give Dangerfield a week and deny him his Brownlow chance. Then the players know there's no wiggle room and will protect the player in the tackle as best they can rather than bringing them to ground forcefully.

I don't necessarily agree with that approach, but if the AFL's intent is to get rid of those tackles then they could easily make a statement here and show they're serious. But they won't, and will rightly be labelled as incompetent.

I agree that Danger isn't a dirty player.

I think Jeff is saying that the elite players typically get off on line-ball cases. So he's not talking about Dangerfield specifically, just players of Dangerfield's ilk.

There have been numerous times in the last few years where a player has been tackled and concussed from it, despite the tackler not trying to hurt the other player, with the tackler cited by the MRP and suspended as a result.

Liked
Saints showing some spirit to almost steal a win
Seeing Port fans leaving the stadium with under 3min to play. Hope you all missed your team's comeback and win. You deserved to miss it
Premiership still open to anybody who is there come finals time

Hawks rebuild is ahead of ours already
Riewoldt likely to announce his retirement

Hated
Poor goal kicking. Probably the one single factor about our season that will keep us out of returning to finals football
Knowing it's the right call to make, should Riewoldt indeed announce his retirement

I agree with you re removing the 'fairest' clause, but it opens up a new can of worms - what happens to 1997 with Chris Grant and Robert Harvey? Does Shaun McKernan also get handed a Brownlow from 1996?

I'm not sold Danger will get off though. It will be an interesting scene on the night if he is rubbed out and gets the most votes - he'll be putting the medal around the neck of the guy with the 2nd most votes.

He's not a dirty player at all and I think in isolation that his tackle was just a good strong one. I think the AFL have painted themselves into a corner with other players being suspended for tackles no worse than this, e.g. Waite. As others have stated it's not Danger himself that will get him off but the AFL has shown that it doesn't like the best players to miss important games or awards because of suspensions. Don't worry, he'll get off as he should and as Waite should have, but didn't.

And anyway, if only the AFL did some market research they'd discover there are tens of thousands of footy fans who think the Brownlow is the biggest bloody yawnfest on the football calendar.

We abuse and criticise the umps all year, and then suddenly we're supposed to be glued to our tellies watching an interminable slow-motion unveiling of the conclusions of their deep analytical thinking.

Hmmm. The specific criterion for the Brownlow is interesting - it's quite pointedly "fairest and best", not best and fairest.

That's true, but I struggle to see the relevance of the 'fairest' component when it is by and large a variable measure - what constitutes 'fair' in one year (or even week) may become 'unfair' in another depending on the rule of the day and how the MRP is feeling. For another example, Easton Wood was rubbed out for a 3rd strike gut punch offence a few weeks ago, technically he hasn't made any single action which constitutes a suspendable offence but he is ineligible through the new rule.

It's also interesting to see the how the 'fairest' section of the award is ignored for club B&Fs - Sam Mitchell won Hawthorn's Best and Fairest in 2011 whilst being ineligible for the Brownlow.

The Pies-Crows game. Enthralling.

Brett Deledio getting through the NEAFL OK.
The weather on the Gold Coast - 24 and just beautiful. Great weekend up there.

Learnt:
No lead is big enough these days.
There were almost as many Richmond supporters at Metricon than Gold Coast supporters.
Essendon is a good team to watch, but is too easy to score against. They need to iron that out next year.

Hated:
The Dangerfield stuff. I honestly don't believe he should get suspended for that. Players are getting rubbed out these days for practicially nothing.

Liked: Fyfe's class act in regards to Setterfield...I don't see many in the league doing what Fyfe did on Saturday.
Learnt: GWS really aren't that good....if it takes a 4th quarter burst to sink a brave Fremantle, that says a lot
Hated: Blakely coming back on after dislocating his shoulder and then doing the same shoulder again, absolutely criminal.

Wrong. Looks like the AFL loves Danger might be a myth.

Liked: Parish playing more in the midfield and killing it. In only his second season and showing signs of being a very very good player in the years to come.

Learned: Bont might have been down at the start of the season but he is a genuine monster. Will shape the finals from here on out.

Hated: Bombers butchering the ball so often going forward. We kick 2-3% better and we win that game.

Liked:

Thriller in Adelaide even with the result
Dogs biting back
3rd draw for the season and the best of all

Hate:

Robbie Gray...haha jokes jokes
Trolls on here who would probably sink so low to boo and mock at a funeral
