Liked - Fyfe's act with Setterfield. Good act.
Learned - No standout flag favourites. In fact runs of form are going to be irrelevant this year, who turns up on the day will win.
Hated - The Dangerfield Circus. Should not be ban because it wasn't that bad, should be ban because others have gone for less, wont be ban bevcause of who he is and what he has not done. The AFL have made this mess not the player.

Your appraisal is EXACTLY how I feel abut Dangerfield's situation.

No problem with him getting rubbed out relative to other cases. Big problem with anyone getting rubbed out for that in general.

Bye bye danger

And anyway, if only the AFL did some market research they'd discover there are tens of thousands of footy fans who think the Brownlow is the biggest bloody yawnfest on the football calendar.

We abuse and criticise the umps all year, and then suddenly we're supposed to be glued to our tellies watching an interminable slow-motion unveiling of the conclusions of their deep analytical thinking.
So we can watch the guys that spend the whole game right next to them unsurprisingly get the most votes

Hawks have the most heart
Crows and GWS don't convince me
Buckley isn't to blame for Collingwoods woes, they're just a mentally weak outfit
Dees self destruct and when they're faves, crumble. They';; touch up GWS next week though.
Western Bulldogs - they could win it again.
Dockers - should have their name changed to chokers.

At your service.:D

14th team with kids and an injured player for blowing a 15 point lead against one of the best teams in the comp at there home ground? Piss of mate, you guys should be praying Dangerfield gets off, you're literally a bottom 6 team without him.

Hated:
This wont be popular but I hate all the negativity from supporters towards their team. From any club including ours. People are entitled to a view but a supporters job is to wear the colours and cheer in my view. I think it's pretty rare that a BF postsr knows more than the coaches at a club and it's usually best to have a little faith.

You idiot. Facts. Huh.:p:p:p:p

Ok, you're right. Of course you are. I just think a lot of people use forums like BF to express their frustrated thoughts about what they WOULD do if they were in charge - in that mysterious universe where their knowledge of football (honed by years of watching people like Lou and Jack play the clown for years) is actually all that is needed to understand a game containing 44 players, all playing different roles, all at the same time. I know I'm an expert:D:D:D:D.

Don't take BF rants too seriously - most of us don't really mean them - we're just bullsh!tting and playing a role - that's why we all use aliases. It's not us. Wallaby is a genius - in real life, I watch the pretty colours running around the field, and hope that somehow the ball magically goes through the goal at my team's end more than the other. Why it actually does - not a clue. But Wallaby can pretend and have a bit of fun.

Compare the feeling to at a game, where you see one of your own fans actually bag out the club IN PUBLIC - it leaves a very bad taste.

I think it's partly how you approach it, no problem with people expressing an opinion. When people call for a coach to be sacked every time their team falls a couple of goals behind it pisses me off though.
It is mostly about my team your right. Supporters at the ground pretty much do the right thing, no problem.
I worry because we're still a developing club. We were awful for the first couple of years but there was always the promise of better, not a certainty, but definitely the opportunity.
At some point in the future we are going to have to have the resilience to cope with bad times, and negativity when we're 3rd on the ladder scares me frankly.
:) You're probably right though, I take it a bit too seriously.

Like the way final four weeks is going to play out, BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE ?
Learnt it's not over til it's over, BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.
Hate the hysteria surrounding Dangers tackle, opposition fans being blindfolded by their own one eyed view. If it was one of their own they would be dancing to a different tune, BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.

Liked: We don't need a key forward in a H&W game
Learn't: Danger just took the fun out of Brownlow night
Hated: PA arsed a win.

Like: Crows being able to draw after being 50 points down in the 3r quarter and still stay in second gear
Learned: Port hopefully have spent all its chips and luck beating St Kilda at home
Hated: the "collingwooooooooood" chant in the 4th quarter after they banged on 3 goals in 2 minutes.

Hated: Dangerfield's suspension. I'd be ropable if one of our blokes missed out on a Brownlow because of a clumsy tackle. Everyone knows he's not a dirty player so saying he doesn't pass the "fair" test is simply rubbish.

That's true, but I struggle to see the relevance of the 'fairest' component when it is by and large a variable measure - what constitutes 'fair' in one year (or even week) may become 'unfair' in another depending on the rule of the day and how the MRP is feeling. For another example, Easton Wood was rubbed out for a 3rd strike gut punch offence a few weeks ago, technically he hasn't made any single action which constitutes a suspendable offence but he is ineligible through the new rule.

It's also interesting to see the how the 'fairest' section of the award is ignored for club B&Fs - Sam Mitchell won Hawthorn's Best and Fairest in 2011 whilst being ineligible for the Brownlow.
I don't see the problem here. Is Easton Wood the only one subject to this rule?

All players know not to gut punch before they do it once, let alone three times.

Dangerfield and Wood breached the rules.

Whether the rules have merit is a separate argument to whether a player has abided by the rules.

Has anyone seen the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936? we are all subjected to rules.

I know Collingwood are shit, but surely Adelaide were in first gear in the 2nd half.

I don't disagree with that. I'm happy for Wood to have been suspended for a 3rd offence as that is the rule (although I would still argue the offence wasn't worthy of a report at all, but that's irrelevant here).

The point was just that, in the context of the Brownlow medal, its a rule which has only been brought in this year for the first time - in previous years he'd be facing a fine and nothing more and would still be eligible for the Brownlow.

My argument is that the subjective ruling of 'fairest' changes constantly depending on the MRP's flavour of the month, whilst the 3-2-1 votes system is a constant. For that reason I'd be happy to see it go.
