Opinion Likely Best 22 2018 (revisited)

Looks a pretty good team to me. Really need Cox and Grundy combo to work out. Really need a solid game plan.
It lacks pace and run and carry in defence for a start and the tall forwards are a shambles. 2018 we are hoping Cox is the man of the moment at Full forward other teams destroy us.

B:
Brayden Maynard, Lynden Dunn, Matt Scharenberg

HB: Tom Langdon, Jeremy Howe, Jack Crisp

C: Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury, Daniel Wells

HF: Tom Phillips, Ben Reid, Jordan De Goey

F: Alex Fasolo, Darcy Moore, Jamie Elliott

R: Brodie Grundy, Adam Treloar, Taylor Adams

I/C: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Travis Varcoe, Tim Broomhead, Josh Smith

EMG: Mason Cox, Callum Brown, Levi Greenwood

Many of the main talking points on the Pies’ best 22 centre on where some of the walk-ups start on the field, such as Jeremy Howe, Ben Reid and Darcy Moore. We’ve gone for Reid and Moore forward, which means it’s difficult to put Mason Cox in the starting line-up. If fit, Matt Scharenberg must start in the back six, while Tom Phillips, Tim Broomhead and Josh Smith are too good to commence 2018 in the VFL.

Gee how much do these peanuts get paid
TOO GOOD TO PLAY VFL
There track record is?
To me we will improve significantly with the following changes
THE FORGOTTEN MAN
2017 was a huge disappointment for big Rupert . Still growing and developing he was shot down early after a hugely promising finish to 2016
Will continue to be played forward as he was late in the vfl and will rejig the whole forward structure
Best tackler at the club
THE FUTURE BACKLINE
Run,, run and more run will be front and centre
Expect varcoe, crisp Murray to combine with Howe dunne Reid and darcy
OUR NEW SMALL DEFENDER
Proven this year that change and daring can produce results . The change of Crisp to half bank resulted in good overlap, steadiness and drive. The move of Taylor Adams will assist leadership.hardness and reliability ( the new Charlie Sutton) as well

Adams dunn Howe
Crisp Reid varcoe
Maynard de goey Hoskin Elliott
Sidey Moore wills
Elliot cox brown
Grundy pendles at
Murray wells fasolo sack
We need to tackle better with harder bodies around the action, really would like Kirby and shaz in the team as well
Really Blair , smith , phillips, Langdon, broom head need to show more aish need to earn it
Cost us games last year

The one thing we saw in the last game when Cox and Grundy worked forward was Goldsack also forward to apply the pressure.

I suspect if we play Moore back with Dunn, we'll again send Goldsack forward as his pressure will be important with Reid and Cox as the key forwards. I don't believe that is in Crocker's skill set at the moment so he misses out.

Last INT spot for daicos brown or Kirby if he gets fit over pre season

It's a tough call on JT because I thought he played great on return
And do we give Murray a walk up start?

Why don't we go back to the three tall forward line setup that worked so well for us a few years ago?

Scharenberg Dunn Goldsack
Howe Moore Maynard

Grundy Treloar Adams
Wells Pendlebury Crisp

De Goey Reid Sidebottom
Fasolo Cox Elliott

Hoskin-Elliott Aish Wills Broomhead

& if we are 1-5 or 2-4 after 6 rounds - highly possible btw... we replace Dunn, Goldy, Wells, Aish and Reid with McLarty, Daicos, Brown, Sier and pick 6, and look forward to a top 5 pick in the 2018 draft...

Will we go a smaller forward line? We don't have the guys to put the pressure on down there though like Richmond had. Goldsack to swing forward, and I'd like Murray to get a go early

Still harboring hopes for Aish too!

If Moore goes back I think Howe should be the one to go forward and kick goals.

Well someone has too don't they. Howe such a revelation down back though, I'm loathe to mess with that

Goldsack applies the pressure but we'd be lucky to get 25 goals from him as a permanent forward. Perhaps Cox plays more, the way he and Grundy teamed up in that last game looked promising

A fully fit Elliott changes a lot of things too

Whatever they do just put games into Shaz, McLarty, Brown, Daicos, Philips, Kirby, Wills, Sier, Pick 6.

Can't see Dunn, Goldsack, Greenwood, Varcoe and Blair on the list in 12 months. All have 1 year contracts and all around 30 yo. Aish, Broomhead, Sier, J Thomas and J Smith all playing for the careers and wouldn't be worried if we lost any of them at years end. Perhaps Aish and Sier will be worthwhile to keep depending on their seasons. Would be great if we found a way to offload Mayne next year as well.

I'm anticipating big list changes in preparation for 2019. Getting pick 6 right this year, going hard after Lynch and potentially Sloane next year things open right up for us.

At the moment still just seeing too many list cloggers.

Why don't we go back to the three tall forward line setup that worked so well for us a few years ago?

Need to fix our offensive transition and settle our small forward issues. A more settled squad and the emergence of the Grundy - Cox team and someone like either Kirby or Daicos could be all it needs.

Langdon, Dunn, Maynard
Howe, Reid, Crisp

Wells, Pendlebury, Sidebottom
Grundy, Treloar, De Goey

Fasolo, Moore, Hoskin-Elliott
Kirby, Cox, Elliott

Interchange: Adams, Scharenberg, Phillips, Pick 6

Emergency: Aish, Murray, Thomas, Varcoe

Why don't we go back to the three tall forward line setup that worked so well for us a few years ago?

Football has changed too much -- to being about pressure around the ball, wherever it is, with quick hands and then fast breaks. 3 tall forwards means the ball just gets swept out too easily nowadays. I reckon it sucks and I don't like the style at all nowadays but that's how it is until they do something about it.
