Likely Ins for next week

Dawes won't play.

Malthouse was asked about Dawes in the press conference and the answer was pretty blunt saying he needs consistency.

In: Medhurst, Dick, Bryan, Blight

Out: Corrie, L Brown, Beams (looks flat), Cook

Unfortunately I realize Brown is 99.9% likely to play.

Wouldn't risk Cloke or Didak on that big ground.

what i heard apart from his finishing yesterday 0.3? he was pretty good as the lead up forward

I sort of agree, but I don't know what good it is going to achieve. He is a good player, he has proved that, but he has gone off the rails since the accident.
Clearly time off doesn't help him, his been away from the game for weeks now. I think he needs time to adjust to the pace.... maybe.... god I hope.

I think getting dropped to the VFL is different than missing games through injury. He just has no spatial awareness and his decision making and disposal skills have turned to sh!t. I think sending him to the VFL will firstly give him a big kick up the arse plus the chance to get some form and confidence in his game. I'd normally agree with you but he has just been out of form for too long now - we're going back to last year now - so I think dropping him to the VFL is the best option.

Thank god Thoolen's on the rookie list, or we might have even seen him as a realistic option.

Yeah to bad we'd already used pick 47 on him the year before...

Honestly, what were we thinking. People who hail Hine as our savour, need only look at this bloke.

We need Medhurst back... our forward line has no structure without him. Definitely sharpens us up.

Didak would be a huge plus too, but he needs to run into some form I think.

If we are to believe Malthouse about "persisting with youth" throughout the season, the outs should be Leroy Brown, Anthony Corrie and Alan Toovey. If Didak comes back in Cox goes out, only because Cook, whilst bad was better than him.

Ins should include: Medhurst, Thomas, Bryan/Fraser (if Josh doesn't get up), Didak (provided he gets up).

Persist with Reid, Wellingham, Rusty, Beams and Cook.

We need to keep giving them game time.

Gee, the team looks so much better with those outs and ins.

On Subi (followed by playing freeflowing Port the following week), we need our runners:

In: Medhurst (if fit), Barham, Thomas (if fit), Didak (if fit), Bryan

Out: LBrown, Corrie, Cox, Swan (if playing injured), Maxie (if susp)

Can't believe anyone would seriously consider keeping Cook in after today. How could you possibly be under any illusions anymore that this guy can actually play football?

He is Leigh Brown the midfielder.

I'd be worried if Blight played this week. It would strike me as a desperation move. I'm a huge Blight fan, but he's a young fella and will need time in the VFL to find his feet. If he's putting games in the VFL together consistently by the second half of the season, maybe a handful of AFL games near the end of the year would be the go. We need to look after this kid because he's going to be fantastic for us.

Re: Shaw being dropped to the VFL; I'd be all for it (in fact, I said as much before this round) if it wasn't for the shocking injury state we currently find ourselves in. He certainly needs to gain some touch, and for some reason he can hit targets running out the backline but can't hit the side of a barn going inside 50.

If we include Blight i'd like to think of it as more of a shift in reality. We need to start shifting our focus on re-building a team which will take us forward and Blight fits this category. But you're right to bring up concerns it might be too early. He is still a twig and you wouldn't want him to get hurt. Calls for him to be included might be a bit premature but I feel we would be moving in the right direction regarding our list if he were included, and its becoming pretty obvious somebody needs to provide some drive off the HBF for us.

It's all a bit early to tell considering we don't know who will come up from injury but i'd say thats about right Matty. Question is, is Fraser even a chance?? If not Bryan needs to come in to replace L Brown. Actually would probably be a good idea not to rush Fraser at all and give him as much time as he needs. The performance from L Brown was about the most pathetic display I have seen from a player in the B&W. I know i'll get canned for saying this but i'd add Shaw to the list of outs this week. He is so out of touch at the moment that it's ridiculous. I'd reward Blight for his good game on the weekend. I'd go:

OUTS: L Brown, Corrie, Cook, Shaw

INS: Bryan, Thomas, Medhurst, Blight
agree with Blight, has been absolutely tearing the VFL a new one..

HF: Davis, Medhurst, Thomas/Wellingham
F: Anthony, Dawes, Dick/Lockyer

See, I'm one of those that thinks that Tarks should be a back/wing/midfielder depending on the game. He just spots up targets and does it well 95% of the time. We need his leadership to at least pad out 3-4 goals per week.

I agree that going tall is the way, but at least someone at CHF and FF who are 6'3" or above would be a good idea.

Ins: Rocca, Bryan, Medhurst, Thomas

Outs: L. Brown, Corrie, Beams, Cook or Cox.

Play Reid at CHB and N. Brown at CHF. If not drop N.Brown and bring in Dawes at CHF.

No he hasn't. He's been playing well for a kid but if he was promoted this week, you'd be disappointed next week. He's not ready yet and it would only hurt his development to push him up before his time. Besides, I'd MUCH rather he spend more time under Rowdy than release him to MM's tender mercies yet.

I think you're right about Blight. I suggested he be included but thinking it over a bit more it is probably being premature. The club wouldn't want to hurt his development. I think it says alot about how we are travelling as a team that kids like Blight are even being thrown up into selection discussions. Still can't wait til he is ready to play seniors for us whenever that is.

Do cook and stanley deserve a place on our list ? if they cant crack a perma spot by now its a bit of a worry.

The only reason why theyd both be retained is due to draft concessions, in any other normal year im sure theyd be cut.

Id rather see barham and mccarthy play aheead of both of those if the choice was ever there

I would bring in Bryan assuming Fraser is not fit. Play him at FF to give us a target and let him take all the ruckwork in the forward 50 - smashing into Cox at every oppurtunity. Wood then must try & stay with Cox in the rest of the ground - more or less as a tag!

This might give us a chance of keeping their best player a little quiet. Cox will eat Wood for breaky if playing one on one. L Brown may even have to run with Cox at times.

Dawes needs to come in & fill the lead up role that Cloke was doing - so important on a big ground like Subi.

This is if I had my way...but i have been way off everytime this year.

Ins: Didak, Medhurst, Thomas, Fraser, Dawes
Outs: Toovey, Cox, L.Brown, Corrie, Clarke/Beams

Don't know what the fitness is like with some of the guys but assuming all are fit:

- Fraser has a good track record against Cox and Wood can't ruck it alone. If Fraser doesn't pull up then Bryan.

- Keep Reid because the Eagles are going tall up forward this year and Reid deserves a shot playing CHB where he has played in VFL.

- Leave Cook. I am so sick of this giving a guy a shot then dropping him the week after. If you are going to give a bloke a run, give him 2 atleast.

- Beams did not look fit enough and as a youngstar he may struggle to pull up from a trip to Perth...so perhaps another rest.

- Leave Heath. Was very poor, but atleast he took the game on every now and then. Just has to recapture the pace of the game and I don't think dropping him will do his confidence good. He looks a player who hasn't played much footy in a while.......hang on he hasnt!!! Go easy.

- Love Marty, but he can be a liability. Scares you so bad when Toovey gives it to Cox who gives it to marty. My heart isn't up to it.

- Get Didak in if fit...don't even consider VFL.

- Leave Rocca out and get Dawes in.

- No more Corrie and Leigh Brown. Toovey unlucky but hasn't done enough in the last few games.

The issue IMO with Marty is that in Gaelic Football you cant get tackled from behind at all. Awareness wasn't a skill he grew up learning. This will come with time. The boys around him on the ground need to be screaming at him when he's hot. Its one of the first things I learnt when I was in the Under 11's....If a teammate is about to get tackled....Tell him. (Why wasn't anyone talking to Heater when he casually ran across the backline in the first quater only to find Waite tackle him to the ground, why hasn't anyone mentioned his lack of awareness...?)

I don't think Marty will get dropped. We still shouldn't be looking to introduce kids. We should be looking to win games. Every Game. Marty is a great player and we need him across half back especially when Heater isn't playing his best footy.

We are 3 - 5. Not out of reach. Not looking for draft picks. We've had a few weeks of bad luck with injuries. Thats fine. Get them out of the way now. We wont want them the 2nd half of the year. Nor will we over the next 4-8 years.
