Does anyone know why anything i download from LimeWire wont play in Windows Media Player?

It keeps saying there is an error, even if the file is mp3 or mpg.

I have heaps of mp3s that play in media player, its only the ones i get from limewire that wont play.

Limewire should notify you when the file is corrupted...I don't know that could be an option but it happens when I download files.

Try using mIRC for mp3's, go to #mp3addicts on EFNet

I think I had that problem with files from Limewire Pro, although that was when I download WPGs I'd say. Just download another MP3 MPG or something from a different artist see if it works??

Sometimes it's a Codec thing - but I have no idea how to update those......

Almost everytime the codec issue has come up for me, Movie Maker has fixed it. Probably depends on which version of Windows you have. (I can never remember which sort I have, its the one with Service Pack 2.

On your computer, ifn you have Windows, check in Start --> All Programs --> Accessories for a program called 'Windows Movie Maker'.

Run this program, then choose 'import audio or music'. Import the stuffed file, then drag it to the audio/music part of the storyboard. (Might sound complicated but straighforward when you look at it).

Then resave the file to your computer ("Save to my computer"). It'll prompt for a quality level and a name. It will always make a .wma version of the original file.

Close the Movie Maker and then go see if Windows Media Player will successfully run the new file.

In about 30 of about 32 attempts, its worked for me. If its not going to work, it'll tell you pretty early too, I think it says so when you try to import the original file in the first place.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your help!

I tried doin it in movie maker and it worked! I then converted the file back to mp3 and problem solved!

Thanks heaps! :thumbsu:

Dunno how many times it needs to be said on here, but get rid of Windows Media Players and use something of quality instead. I use VideoLAN, but I am sure there are other such programs out there that do a similar job. However the moral of the story here is to give MediaPlayer the arse.

Totally agree there Windows MEdia PLayer is ok for organising your files but it can't play stuff you dog's balls. Use VLC it is way better than WMP.

Hint; when downloading from Limewire never choose the first couple of files from the list as they are generally the ones with the corruption.

Corrup files would be my best guess , to prevent disappointment at the end , preview the download after a 10 seconds to see if it is working ...

That's true, when there's 800 locations of a file something fishy is going on.

Just aim for the ones with 10 or so locations, you'll still get a good speed and it should be right
