Not that bad but not that good either.

I don't see which one of our myriad deficiencies his acquisition remedies.

He's cracks in, works hard, lays some tackles, boots the odd goal, isn't that prolific a possession winner and isn't a great kick or decision maker. I thought Levi Greenwood fitted that role to a T for us.

What Collingwood player currently playing for us doesn't fit that role? (besides maybe Pendles/Aish)

I thought that was the problem with our team right now, that we have too many players that get stuck in and not enough truly skilfull players.

True but we actively poached that type in Greenwood from North and now if the rumours are true we are looking to do the same with Jong from the Bulldogs (of course we've drafted a few of these type of players on our own bat too).

You'd think we'd be targeting something in chronically short supply at Collingwood ie some highly skilled, elite decision makers but clearly not.

This is why the Lin Jong 'interest' doesn't make sense at all to me.

I can't see it happening.

You'd think so, surely. I like him but I just don't get where he improves us at all.

Decent player, obviously good enough to be getting regular AFL games however he adds nothing to the current day Collingwood team except maybe being a small upgrade on Blair, but I can't see Blair being pushed out.

Right now Jong is just an average player at AFL level. At VFL he's a star. But the thing about him is he hasn't been playing AFL footy very long. He's only played about 30-35 games. He has huge potential, including stuff he doesn't even show that often at VFL level. He's got explosive breakaway speed, very high leap and reads the ball in flight well, good contested ball winner, tackling machine, and is usually able to get a goal in most games he plays.

However, we don't need him. We already have too many inside mids. He is very raw, and would only be of any real benefit if he develops almost perfectly within the next 2-3 years. He still has quite a few deficiencies in his game he needs to work on. It's very much a high-risk, high-reward with Jong. For us, I don't think we need to take the risk.

If we can get him for not much then I'm happy to have him. He may not be a high possession inside mid for us but he can kick , knows where the goals are and has explosive speed - could be turned into a dangerous crumbing , high pressure forward. I'd take a Jong/Blair swap :$
