Been reading this thread with a bit of interest. Surprised at the negativity toward him to be honest.
He is hard as nails, fast and good overhead. Plus he has a little bit of campaigner in him.
His polish isn't Pendlebury but he is at breakaway speed a lot of the time so can turn it over.
As far as being a small forward, he is a bit bigger than that. I think he is listed at 188 but would think he is a similar size to Pendles.
I reckon he would be a good fit to be honest. I think our midfield runs deeper although your top end midfield talent is slightly better.
A swap with Witts might be a fair trade, with tooing and froing of picks.

As long as you throw in Stringer to even up the deal.

You were doing very well in that post until you got to the punchline

I did a rare thing and ventured to the board of another club, (usually couldn't give a rat's what they're up to).
Apparently Jong had the blessing of the club to explore options.
For mine this implies they don't rate him or they have too many of his type.
Hope it's the latter.

Somebody better tell Mick Malthouse because he jumped off the top rope about Jong going behind the clubs back mid season. Remember him? Hes the guy who did the same thing when he was at the Eagles and signed up with Collingwood. He said players who did that should be kept out of the seniors for the rest of the season. Did he say the same about Dangerfield I wonder? Or Luke Ball?

Havent read the thread and I like Lin Jong. Hes a tough solid goalkicking versatile midfielder, albeit with limited upside.

Unfortunately its exactly the type of player we are not looking for. Sadly I agree with Mark Fine. First time for every thing. We have plenty of depth but not top line talent. Jong just adds more strong bodied midfield-forward depth . As does Thomas Elliot Ramsay Langdon Scharenburg Sier and maybe Swan when they come back next year.
Scharenberg, Ramsay and Langdon are strong bodied mid-field forward depth? Wat?

Its a bit worrying if you ask me, we have identified Lin Jong as our target in July? We have holes everywhere but what hole does he fill? He's a fringe player. He will make us no better... Go after someone decent.

We would have identified numerous targets very early in the year, this is just the one that has gotten media attention.

One of the very few posters I've ignored. Not because I particularly dislike him, but because he adds absolutely nothing of substance, just random, out of context hate on Frost.

Was in response to a typical Frost comment. Thought I'd offer a spanner to his weekly IN Borthwick, OUT Pendles team change suggestion.

More elite talent in a team, brings the team closer to a flag

If he wants the ball and is willing to work hard to get it i'm all for it. We need some players who want to fly the flag. Silky players are over rated when we can't get our hands on it.

I'm sure it's not lost on anyone that the Lin Jong story was broken by Jay Clark. Am I the only one that felt uncomfortable watching that herald scumbag doing a regular podcast with Michael Christian from the holden center? Who the hell let the enemy in? You can leave now Jay. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

This was posted earlier tonight in another thread:- "Jay came out and reported it because it was already being reported on 3AW"

I've no idea but I assume it's correct.

Jong would be steak knives in a Witts trade.

If Jarryd Blair is getting a game for you every week, I wouldn't be so upset at the prospect of Lin Jong. He's a clear upgrade.

I wouldn't trade him for Witts,.

No chance.

We've already tried to trade Witts before, we will try again.

His value isn't as high as you think, he's a 23 year old VFL ruckmen who hasn't really shown good development signs.

Sure, he MIGHT develop into a good player in a few years, but I think at this stage it's more likely he's another Cameron Wood / Robbie Walnock... has some skills but lacks aggression and can't mark. Also a complete liability at ground level unlike many other ruckmen.

Mason Cox shot past him in under 2 years on an AFL list

Sure but it doesnt really change my point very much or at all does it...my point is we have tons of depth in this department.

Besides havent midfielders like Adams currently patched the gap created by the injuries to our defenders?

And Wat is such a bogan term..

I guess we have differing views.
A bloke who is ranked about 24-28 in a contending club and has shown plenty

A bloke ranked about 24-28 in a battling club that has shown very little.

Talk about over-rating your own players and list.
You can't compare the two. They play totally different positions.

Witts is a better ruckman than Jong.

Witts is a champ, thats why he dominates in the VFL and an American is playing ahead of him.
Your list isn't that great that you keep guns in the reserves. Oops....sorry Travis is a champ also.
