Seriously, this is the greatest material known to man. I'm sitting in the shade in a linen shirt and pants, having a G&T and feeling the cool breeze waft around my nether regions.

You never see anyone wearing it in Australia though. Why isn't it more popular?

Silk is my favourite. It's easy to wash but my tip is to get patterned silk as it wont show up any water stains if you're clumsy like me with spilling things.

I don't find it too difficult to iron. If you don't spin it too much, don't leave it sitting in the machine, and then iron it slightly damp it's pretty easy to deal with.

Agree about it wrinkling like a bitch though. As soon as you sit down it's creased all over the place.

You sound like a character from a Graham Greene novel, Caesar.

If I make a thread on the history of linen will you create a history sub-board?

I wish. They usually had swimming pools.

I lived in Cairo many years ago. One time I was kicking back on the Red Sea at some town, which is now a resort, but back then they'd just started construction with all the Russian mafia money. So I was I sitting at this bar, drinking G&Ts, feeling very Colonial wearing a linen short. After quite a few G&Ts, I looked carefully at the bottle of gin behind the bar. It looked like Gordons, very much like Gordons, but through my blurry eyes I could make out that it was in fact Dordon's Dry Din. The local counterfeit hooch... Sick as a dog later on.

Try swallowing.

You obviously don't have a mirror in your house. :D
