Just interested in where Cats supporters think he's at.

He did a good job on Ball, no question and got a lot of the footy, but what percentage of his possessions went forward, he seemed to kick/handball sideways or backwards the majority of the time without even a glance forward, completely lacking creativity.

Thoughts?

He has games where he's gets lots of possessions but they are rarely damaging possessions [i.e v StKilda],but other games he can get a lot less and can be damaging.

I reckon he's a bit like Scott West. Both can rack up 30 possessions, but how many are actually damaging the opposition ?

I always think that Lingy is most dangerous when he's pushing forward and kicking the odd goal. He's very good overhead and a lovely kick so he can really hurt the opposition by kicking a couple. At the moment he's not looking like getting near the sticks.

That said, the other great thing about him is his presence and leadership in the midfield. He's a huge bloke for a midfielder with as good an engine as anyone going around plus he is effectively a second captain out there.

he has been abit up and down this year too. At one stage a few weeks back he wouldnt bend over to pick up the ball, and i dont know whether that was ebcause of an injury or lack of effort.

Good bloke though, but needs a haircut ;)

He tries harder than anyone in the side and is our best player. Has a huge heart and should be captain. He struggles some weeks because he is just exhausted from putting in too much.

I'd rather guys who work their arse off for 30 touches rather than spoiled (but more talented) guys like James Kelly anyday. West has won a mere 6 best and fairests, if he played at a club with a bigger media profile he'd be spoken about (correctly) like Voss, Hird and Buckley. Absolute superstar.

Remember too Ling (and West) go into packs to get the ball, they don't hang back waiting for easy kicks (insert Cousins, McLeod, Buckley here).
