He's as open to criticism as any other player.
He is, he is also open to a defence when he played a good game.

Want to pick on a player with poor disposal or decision making?

Brynes - turned it over four times by kicking it STRAIGHT to a Richmond player. Even better this done in four consecutive kicks.
Ottens - kicked 2 points, a poster and an out on the full all from very getable set shots. That is a total of 24 points for not including the scores made on th e rebound from this.
Bartel - 4 frees against.
Monica - at least 2 direct turnovers which lead to inside 50s for the tiges and they are just the ones i remember.
Scarlett - Had a kick 20 metres out 25 degree angle and chose to pass to a Richmond player in the goalsquare.

And i could go on. See it is very easy to break down an individuals game and pick out things. Even Ottens who had a very good game made countless, easy mistakes. What a good supporter or viewer will do is add them up and determine by weighing up the positives with the negatives and decided which had a greater influence on the outcome of the score and game.

Ling - positives FAR outweighted negatives. Overall a positive infuence on game.

screw possie counts - I want a no-tolerance policy on that negative chip s**t!! decision or skill error or both - it don't matter - don't f**ken do it!!!

to be fair to ling he didn't do a lot of that on Sunday but I agree with the sentiment (although maybe not that strongly) that the backwards pass especially to the middle of the ground is dangerous.

As for the other players well there were heaps of mistakes and from the usual suspects but the thread is about the paddle pop lion and that's who we're talking about.

Oh and you can state the bleeding obvious and say "he needs to improve" in such and such area. Well no ******** you ********ing genius name a player in the league who doesnt - simple you cant. Again another stupid comment.

yeah thanks for expletives scotty. What would you like to talk about on BigFooty? I will try and keep my "stupid comments" off the page.

or putting teammates under pressure with hospital passes.

selwood had more poise and composure and it was his first game.

If we train during the week you will be bagging him Wednesday night.

Stoney thats the only time you will ever be in the same space as Vossy. As for Bogans look in the mirror tool. If you ever went to a game (oh yea that means buying a membership) You would see him f up consistently each week costing us at least 1 goal a week.

He can get the ball and deliver but to often across the back half he turns it over..something Bartel, doesnt do, or Corey, or Enright. Valuable yes inconsistent yes. I never saw Voss or Hird or even Buckley give it over to the opponents that often. They are elite he can only dream to be in that.

Its ok that ur a bogan who likes to pigenhole players into being crap because they mite turn the ball over a few times each week. When u get it 30 times a game there's a fair chance u will screw it up a few times per match.

I never said he was Hird, Voss, or Bucks - i said he was one of our most valuable players, and until someone else can win the ball for us as much as he does then nothing will change.

How do outsiders like Prismall and Tenace get the ball??? Its from our players who win the ball - yes that means Bartel and Corey moreso than Ling - but Ling also gets possession of the pill more times than not.

Can't for the life of me understand this constant carping criticism of Ling.
So he made a couple of mistakes on Sunday, point out one player who played a 100% perfect game. Thirty three possessions and completely shut down one of the oppositions best players into the bargain and yet he still gets bagged.

I have a feeling that if he got fifty possies and turned just one of them over he'd still cop criticism from some here.

Now if you actually read the comments it says (and I have never sauid he is a waste of a pick. The fact is that he more than anyone els consistently give away 1 or 2 goals a week through judgment or skill errors. Get the ball 30 times and yes you will make mistakes although I dont see Judd Cousions etc screwing up all the time.

I would put him in th esame category of a Burgoyne at Port (Peter) gets the ball but far too often stuffs it up and a goal is scored from his poor judgement. He is still a good player buy will never take that final step till he removes those lapses. Ling is the same

...there there...

I don't think Scarlett is the most confident of players in front of goal. See why they've put him down back!?

Scarlett has saved our a$$ on many occasions throughout the past year.

But he still should have had a shot!

People.. people it obvious some of us are still recovering from last years debacle, and venting our anger at the culprits,ie Ling,Hunt, the coach etc...

I was one of those people that were unhappy with Ling last year BUT ido think his effort on Sunday was much improved, ok he made a few mistakes as they all did.

Lets let it go, we should be encouraged with that performance, they all try their best and if that's not good enough so be it. IT's better than 99.9% of us could do!!

As soon as Mooney kicked backwards to Ling i could feel trouble brewing, Ling would have been better off bombing it into the forward fifty. I’d like to say he’s probably learnt from the mistake, but.

I’m not bagging Ling I think he has adapted to our new playing style well but one can’t help but vent ones spleen after that CATastrophe!

Then we should be spewing at Mooney,he should have bombed it into the forward line. :D

Must say I agree with this. Ling's reaction was like a spoilt child. He should cop any criticism, justified or not, on the chin. It should only serve to motivate.

That's what surprised me about his reaction. The one thing that is absolutely not in dispute is his commitment and work ethic. No one trains harder than Ling.

Again, I thought it was pretty good on Sunday. He just needs to be told move the ball forward quickly, and when in doubt bomb to the goalsquare.

Easy!

Can't find the post about linga about his newspaper article from memory Quote" stating I don't rate people I don't rate "

Interesting piece from the Article on Mooney quote:
Mooney, who lives in a Melbourne bayside suburb and is expecting a child with long-time partner Seona, never did any anger management. He also says that he didn't realise just how much he was hurting his club. Because, in his view, no one told him straight. It’s a rather incredible assertion but one that, when questioned again about it, Mooney stands by.

Same thing about Ling he said his coach and teammates didn't have a problem, So maybe they did and just didn't express it properly.

Teammates will never tell you the whole truth as they need you to play coaches have to juggle egos and outcomes so they also reduce criticism.

Just thought it was interesting from Mooney's view that the problem was in his mind underrated. :)
