I just had a flashback to Linga's first game v Essendon when he snapped the ball out on the full from 5m out directly in front.

At the time i cursed what appeared to be an overweight draftee who clearly wasn't the answer to our forward line problems - and above all looked to be the uglyiest guy in the afl with a face that was redder than his hair when he worked up a sweat. i wanted him traded, delisited, run over - anything except running around in our 1's.

5 years later, the relatively attractive blonde bombshell is now my most admired footballer in the afl, and i would only ever consider buying an AFL men for all seasons calendar if Lingy was on the cover.

To you i raise my beer and thank you for being the most inspirational player I have just about ever seen - here's to Lingy!!!

This was actually Linga’s second match of AFL footy; the week before he was chastised for not kicking on his right foot when the scores were tied at Football Park against the Power, which resulted in a draw. Anyone remember this… 24 minute last quarter?

But Linga really shot to prominence when he won a VFL award for best new talent and forged his way to be a permanent fixture in Geelong’s AFL by the end of 2001 season.

Sure do. He should have snapped around his body on his right, but instead he slowly tried to get back onto his left foot and got tackled. Very disappointed with him at the time. That combined with the Essendon kick in his 2nd game, he didn't get off to a very good start did he?

He has certainly made up for his mistakes though. What a sensational player and individual he is.

Will be captain within 2 years. Who would have thought this after his first two games?

Well done recruiting department :thumbsu: :D

But remember later that game on the wing - Lingy was going after the ball with two bombers on his tail, when they fell over themselves trying to tackle him, but Ling came away with it!

Remember reading an article in the Hun about players to watch out for in the future and had one of my mates laugh when Dinga was mentioned. From that day on he just came on in leaps and bounds. If our entire list had his work ethic we would be unstoppable.
