Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, has been found dead at his southern California home in an apparent suicide.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner's office, Brian Elias, said it had been notified by law enforcement of the death of Bennington, 41, on Thursday morning (local time).

Confirmed by the other vocalist here:

Regardless if you liked their music or not this presents another opportunity to open up dialog about personal struggles you or someone you know may be dealing with.

If you're not coping and for whatever reason feel that suicide is an option, please take some more time to think it through, reach out, if not to a loved one then a professional.

You are not alone.

If you feel like you have no one to talk to, or don't want to scare those you care about by sharing these thoughts there are services like lifeline.org.au (13 11 14) who are available 24/7 and are more than willing to listen. Sometimes just verbalising our problems things can help immensely, maybe even help put them into perspective.

If you know someone who is having a difficult time, please take the time out to sincerely ask how they are, let them know you're there if they need. This could be the kind of small gesture that a person needs, to know that someone cares.

Fond memories of cruising around in my best mates VH commodore. Hybrid Theory was on repeat in that car for about 2 years straight! Such a shame. RIP.

Always tragic when someone takes their own life. Wasn't really a fan of their music but thats no reason to feel ambivalent about it. Always feel sad when I read news like this.

Packedlunch bit off topic but can you please find out who is behind the Brian Elias at the Coroners Court?

Terrible news. Been of the age when they were initially big, listened to a lot of Hybrid Theory and in particular Reanimation & Collision Course with Jay Z.

Agree with the sentiment in the OP. If you are struggling don't be afraid to speak to your GP and get a referral to a professional - it really can help.

RIP chester.

****.

Devastating

terrible news

shame people just cant say something nice and **** off, have to say something negative about his music etc.

******s

Well the music is absolutely terrible.

Yep not necessarily a fan of his music but it's tragic to see someone who seemingly is living the dream so despondent that the only solution they see is to take their own life.

Give your family/friends/self a hug tonight. People need that.

Oh an apparent 'suicide' hey? Someone better check he wasn't investigating the Clinton Foundation or John Podesta's after hours activities. :drunk:

In all seriousness though, very sad and tragic news although I was not a fan of the band. 41 is too young to leave this rock.

when had they ever bought in ? - they seemed fairly produced right from the first single One Step Closer

all bands are 'produced' to one extent or another, I can think of maybe three exceptions to this rule from the last forty or fifty years

Faith No More, Nirvana and System of a Down are pretty much it, (They wrote their own rules and it was glorious:D:cool::thumbsu:(maybe a couple of some outliers like Ramstein, Tool and Living Color)

I've never really subscribed to the mind-set that because a band sticks within it's expected sound in an effort to remain consistent to the expectations of the buying public, is selling out, more so just common sense if they wanted to make money,

As a somewhat older metal-head who has seen the coming and subsequent going of numerous waves of heavier music. this was disappointing for me as they were developing past the teenage male demographic of RRAAWRR i'M ANGRY AND I DON'T KNOW WHY hormone-induced rage of most popular younger metal acts and were starting to transition, both musically and lyrically to a much more polished and nuanced sounding songs like Shadows of the day, Leave out all the rest, What I've done, faint etc..:thumbsu:

Well they did have a heavy vibe. Which shrunk with every new album till it was non existant.

This has happened on chris cornells birthday.

The Hunting Party got back to some of their heavier stuff.

Having said that, their latest album, One More Light is massively pop and a complete departure from their previous albums, even compared to A Thousand Suns, which was sort of an electronic concept album.
