I would maintain that there were fewer dickheads back then... even only as far back as the early eighties. The world has gone to $hit... and it's only recently. Just my view.I used to do security in the nights in Melb CBD... it was a bit dodgy but manageable... now it's just plain dangerous. Walk through the wrong streets at 4am as a foreigner you will be assaulted either verbally or physically. But anyway, it's not really relevant to this. I think it's nice that they were including the guy in the fun. Most people look through people with disabilities as if they are not there...guilt, shame, pride, embarrassment... don't know why.
Actually I think society as a whole and people as individuals ate getting better all the time, that we are on a slow but real upward trend of tolerance and enlightenment.

That we are more accepting and understanding and less likely to attack or humiliate 'spazs, or ****s, or wogs' and the fact that this is news is an indication of how far we have come.

I refuse to agree that the 'world is going to help in a handbasket' or that 'kids these days...', I have for 15 years worked in jobs where everyday I see humans do some pretty shitty things to one another, and I am still very confident that society is moving in the right direction.

But that is the fundamental difference between a progressive and a conservative outlook and probably not a matter for this thread.
I agree with both of these to some degree. I believe education, tolerance and knowledge has improved across society. However I also believe behaviour is on the decline. Kids aren't hiding behind the shed thinking they're tough because they're smoking, they are now out at 2 am setting fire to cars and assaulting people in parks.

It's all since the demise of corporal punishment, the days of painful consequence.

Daniel doesn't need education on how to speak to the disabled.
He needs the cane across the back of his thighs with the rhythmic lecture of..- "STAY....OFF.....THE...PISS";)

Did anyone else notice that on the news stations last night it said that Rich "snuck in the back door to tonights best and fairest", but in the Herald Sun it says he flew out to Fiji yesterday morning. Hmmmm

Reminds me of when I had a 15 inch ruler broken on my head to the rhythmic lecture of "DE...LE...CONTRACTS...TO...DU.

Lucky he flew.
After today he won't be able to get back in by boat.

Couldn't agree more with your comments about society today.....the kids of today are no longer scared or respectful of authority, they just laugh......think its a hell of a joke, and why?

..they know there will be no punishment that hurts them....no consequences of their actions.

A smack across the legs or backside is NOT the same as a bashing.

Since a fear of punishment has nothing more than an anecdotal effect on offenders in the first place, I don't understand the logic behind increasing the severity of punishment as a deterrent.

Punitive measures only exist because of the general public's need to feel like justice is done by "getting square", rather than any evidence to say that it actually decreases anti-social behaviour or recidivism.

And it's much more expensive than the alternate of evidence based rehabilitation.

Crime rates are steadily decreasing in most indicators. It's only media saturation and anecdotal accounts that say that society's behaviour is on the decline.

Plus a good lashing of "It wasn't like this in my day... tut tut tut!".

If the current generation of kids I am teaching at school is any indication, the future is bright.

Good eggs those millenials. :thumbsu:

Very disappointed if this us true. We don't need this sort of image.

If what is true? The stuff that the club has already admitted to or the sensational rubbish that even the media that reported it is distancing itself from?

All I've heard is that Lions players have been involved in incidents.

Movies and music are inspiring the kids to be 'ard, and Miley Cyrus is inspiring them to be... well slutty I guess. (When did 'free' become a synonym for 'moronic'?)

Which is why us footy fans kinda need our players to be deserving of the status of role models for our kids. Which is also why we all got so tense and wound up yesterday. At least before the guy's tissue paper thin story started falling apart.

The days of Fev like behaviour are over in the AFL. Just ask Fev.
