Two only partially related points:

1) while waiting at a preseason session for some autographs for my son-in-laws birthday football I was amazed to count 28 support personnel. Then again, I thought that's modern football

2) listened to a fascinating talk by some accountant on BBC worldservice a few months ago.about how it was better to pay back loans over the longest period possible as inflation meant the actual real value of the loan was then lower.

Urban Myth No?: That on field success= off field $. The rider is: that the off field money men are premiership players in their occupation. I hate to rain on the parade of those who see sunshine everywhere but to coin a phrase" It's tough out there." .. In fact its a jungle. We won 3 , three , yes that's THREE ladies and gentlemen holy grail cups in a row and in a blink of an eyelid we are broke. No your delusional if you think success alone creates financial security. For all you Qld supporters let me give you a hint, what do Collingwood, Richmond,Carlton and Hawthorn have in common? They won bucket loads of premiership cups but were broke in a few years. Go figure.

Looking forward the Club needs to increase revenue by a minimum of $2.5M simply to get back to even. Allowing for the usual increases in costs, that figure is probably more like $2.7M. Two ways to increase profit - cut costs or increase cash. I would think that we're running fairly tight regarding wages etc. so I'm not sure how much more we could cut? Maybe we'll draft less rookies and save a bit there, but I don't see where the increased cash is going to come from. Isn't the Springwood club fully operational? How much more is it meant to make for us?

Does anyone have a link to the financials, I can't see them on the website at all.

worries me little that we have another substantial loss, but unless I have a read of the financials I am not going to really comment on it.

I received them in the form of an email from the club with PDF attachments about 10 days ago.

The finances??? Really??

What sort of membership do you have?

Gold. If by "Financials" you mean the P&L and Balance Sheet.

Not an accountant so not sure what the terminologies are. I'm a Prime member (Silver) and haven't received any financial information email from the club.

Interesting.

This is all a bit weird. I will have to try to get on to the Club to see what is going on.

I believe that usually the Club's Annual Report, containing the financial statements, is put up on the Club's website not that long after the announcement of the headline result (i.e. big loss).

Year's ago members used to be sent the Annual Report / financials. Then they stopped that and you had to opt in to receive them via email. I received them last year about the same time they were put on the website. This year I haven't received anything via email.

At the end of 2004 we had aprox $8 million in the bank. Does anybody know what the current deficit is?

Nasty, and the club lost a lot of that money with investments going belly up during the GFC. The big problem we have is that we have no financial reward from the three-peat.

Its an interesting graph, certainly the introduction of Paddlepop didn't have the desired result, and if this years spike is due to the Hall of Fame gurnsey that has to be a clear message.

I will say in Paddlepop's defense the year it was introduced the price Puma put on our jumpers was very high, it would hurt sales no matter what jumper design we had.

We have never recovered from the GFC.
