I hope they play ACorn up forward so that he can put his name forward to replace Brown.

Some great sounding stuff in that report.

"while draftee Patrick Karnezis was everywhere in the final term and played a lead role in the fightback."

"Centre-half-forward Bryce Retzlaff was outstanding in the first half for the Lions and vied with Shelton for best afield honours."

Really hope we give Retzlaff a go.

I hope so as well even if we slot him and Karnezis in one week and the better of the two stays in.A.Corn can come in the week after and so on to Brown returns.

I only caught the last quarter unfortunately but Cornelius at FF was dangerous (however does some incredibly stupid things sometimes) and even did ok when thrown in the ruck. I think he deserves a crack playing deep in our forward line.

Sheldon looked a class above.

interesting. I thought sheldo was one of our better players in our pre-season game against the bombers. Sounds like he could be due for a recall into the seniors

Watched nearly all the game. To me, Cornelius looks almost entirely lacking in self-confidence, although it is obvious he has nearly all the skills apart from any defensive side whatsoever. Can't or won't chase. Then again, to be fair neither does the great JB, or Clark. I made the suggestion to someone that Ace looks like he'd rather be elsewhere. Unless someone gets inside his head and instills a bit of mojo, I fear he may be lost to the cause. Maybe all it takes is one big game- you never know. And did well in the ruck.

Sheldon puts his head well and truly over the pill- a very determined performance. Ditto Golby.

Bearing in mind our game last year at Esplen v Morningside when we got belted by a very tough, experienced opponent, a much, much better performance, especially considering we appeared to lack a specialist ruckman. I put this down to our much better game on the ball and better defence. Green did very well and will play seniors this year, IMHO.

Hawksley, Karnezis and Retzlaff did OK. Retzlaff is maturing quite well and Karnezis seems to have the body shape we badly lack.

While on the topic- who the hell is this Bonney [?] bloke who seems to have carte blanche to go around kicking people off the ball. Is this what the game is all about? How many umpires do we need?

Did you see the Sheldon report, t4e? Was it an optical illusion or was the Morningside player actually struck by another Morningside player?

I didn't see the A-Corn incident, but from what a witness tells me, he could be missing for a week or six. Hopefully not.

Didn't see any of the above so I'm unable to comment.

What I will say is that in response to my question to a Morningside supporter as to who the hell was this bloke running around in a quite cowardly way kicking opposition players behind play: "well, his standard MO is to provoke and then reap the rewards of the retaliation".

I will also say I saw a Lions player assisted off after a serious head knock from a bloke with no hair that occurred right in front of an umpire, no report, zip. Must have fainted.

Bearing in mind the relative body sizes of the young Lions v Morningside, a very encouraging effort.

Drove home to me watching the seconds go through their paces on Sunday just how destructive the set-up over recent seasons has been for the development of our players.

Stood out like dog's whatsits that they were finally playing as a team, with team disciplines and set plays and trust in each other.

The Western Magpies arrangement is a winner already for mine. Looking forward to a far more fruitful season of ressies watching. :thumbsu:

Oh yeah, Patty Karnezis off the back flank. :thumbsu:
