Well I've just come straight from the pub after watching this game (a bit of an early start on the beers for me but what the heck) & Australia A definitely deserved to beat the Lions.
BSA perhaps all the Aussies that stood up & took notice of us beating Queensland will now be a bit more confident & rightly so BUT what I would say is that of the 15 players that started this game for the Lions I can honestly only see 1 starting for the Lions in the 1st Test & that's Scott Quinnel the no.8 & he's not a shoe in.Our pack was poor in this game & the worst offender was the hooker who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo in the line out & as far as I'm concerned if you can't guarantee your own line out ball then you've got no chance. The front row were average & the locks were even worse & Jenkins at fly half was nonentity that's why Wilkisnon is vital to this side's chances of winning the series.
The backs looked dangerous at times even though none of them will start the 1st Test barring injury but I thought the ref was crap.
Cheers

Missed out again!! Wish I had Foxtel..

Only saw some snippets on Ch.10 late news...thank goodness for them...they cover all sports.
Looked like at fantastic crowd, with lots of red jerseys in the crowd.
I am really cheesed off. I love my rugby, especially good quality stuff.

Cheers

i've noticed alot of British around the internet have said "From that team, we wil only have 1 or 2 players in our starting line-up."

But, haven't they realised Australia probably won't have any players from that team in our starting line-up. Nathan Grey and Justin Harrison may bustle their way into the side, but they will proibably remain on the bench.

For the Lions, Jenkins had an absolute shocker, how bad can one man defend. Dallaglio needs to have his brain examined. He knows he's on the verge of getting a sin bin, so what does he do, he blatantly holds onto the ball on the ground right in front of the ref. YOU IDIOT!!!!!!

McBryde. What a *******. As Dipper said, he couldn't hit a cow's ass with a banjo. For an experienced bloke, Jason Leonard played terribly. How hard is to scrum straight and stay upright.

For Australia, Nathan Grey was superb. Couldn't put a foot wrong. Just Harrison was very good in the line-out. Manny Edmons played well. Whittaker was looking very dangerous, and Sam Payne did well coming on as a replacement for Whittaker.

Scott Stanifoth had one of the best games of his career. Never realised how good he was in dfence. May be looking for a move in from wing to centre.

Dissapointment for Richard Graham, getting stretchered off after 15 minutes in his big game to try and show everyone he can play the 15-a-side game.

yup - basically agree. not much either side can take out of this game really, it was a hit-out for both 'B' sides and with the possible exception of Scott Staniforth, none of the Aussie guys would be serious contenders for a test place.

This Saturday against NSW will, oddly enough, be a better indicator methinks.

Agree with Dipper and WCE2000 - the Lions looked flat-footed and disinterested.

Cannot belive Dallaglio - he is a dead set goose.

cheers

I went to the game last night ..... and I can say three things:

1. Judging by the faces on them pommies as they trudged off as losers, the bubble has burst in a big way.

2. The pommies will need a lot more commitment in defence if they're gonnna roll the Wallabies.

3. Thank christ for the kiwi ref .... without the 21-9 penalty count, I think we woulda struggled!

Well done to Australia A but as others have stated I don't know how much impact this will have on the tests.

I am looking forward to seeing the Real Wallabies v Real Lions in the flesh (fur?) when they come to Melbourne.

The British & Irish Lions will give the Wallabies a good run for their money. I'd think you'll see a better showing from them against the Tahs.

They absolutely trounced my beloved Reds!! :( I'm looking forward to the test series though.

Thank goodness for Fox Sports Without it, in Melbourne it's...Rugby? What Rugby? Oh..that bum sniffers sport!

Pathetic really. I dare them to actually 'play' a game...and have a 130kg Tongan put them 10 ft under. Uneducated trolls...think they can comment on a game they know nothing about.

BTW, i grew up in Qld and played my Rugby up there, and for my uni when i moved to Melbourne. I did manage to sneak some Aussie Rules in there...although i had an uncanny ability to consistantly give away free kicks. :D:D

Have you guys got tickets to the Melb. Test??

Elt and Topdon??

Good to see some afl people interested in rugby as well.

Yeah, I agree with you TopDon, many (not all thank goodness) Victorians are very ignorant re rugby (even league and soccer), and having discovered those codes not alltogether that long ago myself (having been brought up on soccer and afl at school), I REALLY NOW APPRECIATE HOW MUCH I HAVE MISSED OUT ON NOT HAVING A LOOK AT OTHER SPORTS...thats Victoria for you though, they spoonfeed you afl...I really don't think the afl want you to enjoy other footy. They are so protective of their code.

Cheers.

I have been a keen rugby supporter for many years now particuarly internationals, even had my mug on tv celebrating the recent World Cup win. Unfortunately Ms Storm I am one of the rugby supporters you have referred to who can't stand league or soccer (even though I played a bit of soccer as a kid). The basic six tackle premise of rugby league irks me :)

If I can't watch AFL, give me the game they play in heaven every time.

Mud n Blood, you've pretty much hit a few nails on the head. The refereeing is a big worry for us (I actually read that the pen count was 25-9) as a major bone of contention has been different interpretation of the laws between southern/northern hemisphere refs-it's not that your refs are wrong or that ours are it just means that our players have got to learn what they can & can't do at the breakdwon over there & if they don't then we're stuffed.
The reason that the players would have looked so gutted is that i) most of them know they've blown their selection chances ii)they had to go into the dressing room & look their fellow squad members in the eye after that performance.
On the plus side after the hour mark when we took off Jenkins & a couple of others we looked much better & managed to score 3 tries even though we still weren't estabilishing a platform up front.
I still think the series will be close & I still beleive we can win but I'm a bit worried that the training is a bit over zealous as every other day someone is getting an injury that's keeping them out of the next game or in a couple of cases off the rest of the tour.
I've just seen the team we've picked for the game on saturday against NSW & as far as I can see the whole of the front five will play the first test, 1 or 2 of the back row will as will all of the backline except the scrum half & maybe Robinson on the wing.So if this side plays badly then we really are in trouble.

Can't wait for the Tests to start!

Elt.......

Did you actually get to go the the World Cup? How longdid you go for and was it a tour or just to the final game. ?

Hope I am not being a busy-body but just interested, as a girlfriend of mine nearly went on a tour...she's also a Dees supporter and a Storm supporter too (so I guess I am not the only one that loves afl and league and union .

That's been a dream of mine...I can't wait for the next Cup as its going to be in Aust. & NZ.;)

Cheers.

Yep plans are already being formulated for us to go to Sydeley to watch the Wallabies go back to back.
