Footy is back!

Long time lurker, first post. Love the onset of a new season and AGAIN our jumper has a Gold AFL logo signifying we are the reigning premiers. Funny that, reigning/raining maybe the initial image used in the OP could have been of a Lion Fish and Dog Fish? (i have a file image but not a url, cannot upload. There goes that that option of a funny first post bugger)

LIONS by lots [please]
Welcome!

This seems like an 'interesting' choice given we have one of the most potent but even forward lines in the league. Almost a bit insulting if unnecessary, going like for like perhaps?

The Western Bulldogs will blood two new players on Saturday, with Lachie Jaques and Michael Sellwood named to debut against Brisbane.

Both defenders, Sellwood joined the Dogs via last-year's mid-season rookie draft, while Jaques was drafted with pick no.29 in 2024's draft.

If it is very wet, are 3 talls in forward line and 2 rucks a bit much. I could be wrong but Oscar Allen doesn’t seem like a wet weather player - maybe the one not to risk?

You need talls in wet weather footy. What you don't need are those that aren't strong in a contest which doesn't apply to our talls

I doubt we'll play 3 tall forwards and 2 rucks if it was dry anyway

You and me against the world on this Nathan Barley.

Not convinced Zane is the sort of guy perfectly suited to wet weather (Cody Curtin absolutely would be) but I'd still play him on Saturday night. Just to try to wear Tim English down by double or triple teaming him, and force them to give Sam Darcy (or Rory Lobb) a stint in the ruck, thereby taking him/them away from where they are most dangerous.

A little concerned if we go in with Fort and Fort only in this game, I think he was clearly outplayed against Carlton a couple of weeks ago especially as the game went on. His jumping become basically non existent as the game went into the second half and particularly the last quarter.
So with Curtin/Draper/Smith all under injury clouds I think we have to go with ZZ.
Gallop can certainly help a bit when the ball is forward but around the ground I think Fort may need a bit more help.

Being a newbie I think I needed to pass a quota of posts, BOM now suggesting no longer raining cats/LIONS and dogs, 25% chance of 10mm. May have missed the boat/ark but looks like I can now post an image and seems a waste to not. 😎

ZZ did look a lot more promising against GC compared to the Carlton game.

He's a decent size upon second inspection too (thought he looked a bit too skinny to be a key position player yet).

Probably a rough game to start weather wise but hopefully he gets a decent run and shows his stuff. Love to see him clunk a few marks over the next few weeks.

I would hope that he would. He didn't play against Carlton!

He absolutely did. Came into the game after Lester was concussed late 1st quarter/early 2nd quarter. Looked very scratchy.

I’ve been hoisted by relying on Mike Whiting and Dom Fay who repeatedly said he didn’t play against Carlton.

Hopefully he slots in, but the first game of the season is always tough on all the players.
Being a debut makes it harder.
Maybe he just does ruck relief only. Or Fort may have a slight niggle, and they want to manage his time on ground.

I would have preferred someone that missed out and i don't even know who that is yet.
