Hopefully he slots in, but the first game of the season is always tough on all the players.
Being a debut makes it harder.
Maybe he just does ruck relief only. Or Fort may have a slight niggle, and they want to manage his time on ground.

I would have preferred someone that missed out and i don't even know who that is yet.

You wouldn't be totally surprised if he only does 40-50% game time

Debut is always exciting ! Its nice to see our club has embraced debuts early season now when deserving players come along.

Go ZZ !! Have an amazing game !!

ZZ debuting makes me think that Dr**er is a real chance to play next week and they want to select 2 rucks as they'll do that to ease him in when fit.

How are they going to try and slow down our ball movement from half back?

If we can break even on clearances and transition defensively we should be right

ZZ has drawn a difficult game to debut and be the ruck relief, Tim English and Sam Darcy both listed as 208cm on footywire, ZZ 196cm, fly high young lad.

Nah, it's the perfect game. Just bring an appetite for the contest, put your body on the line & you'll be right.

He'll learn a lot too. There's a lot to like about ZZ & Curtin.

The only interesting thing in the team announcement is Marshall not even an emergency. Either injured or maybe further down the pecking order.
I think it is simply that we have 1 tall, 1 mid-sized player and 1 small in the emergencies and Marshall is simply behind Annable. Not a massive fall from grace when you consider he was probably the last or second-last picked for the GF.

Really hoping to hear from the the commentators on satdee "Z Double beautiful tap to the suitcase runs to 55 hits the lil'O lace out in the goal square"😃

No disrespect to him, but he played finals last year because of injuries. Annable or Linc will get first crack to get elevated to best 23 for the wing/mid/half forward role if there's an injury.

it's an unbelievable best 23 on paper.

Once Berry became available for the wing role and Reville stepped up in pre-season this year, Marshall was always going to play the waiting game. May be Annable, Linc give us more flexibility too compared to Marshall, either way he wasn't going to make the best 23 cut off.

Team as expected with Noah missing out

Emergencies Annable, McCarthy and Joyce

I wonder which players have been emergencies the most in their careers? Joyce has been a mainstay as key position coverage for almost every game the last 2 or so years

Joyce was break glass in emergency type player. He deserves real credit for the way he’s applied himself, through work ethic, consistency, and genuine development, he’s lifted his game to the point where he’s now a legitimate replacement option for one of the key back‑line roles.

Marshall is great link up player, runs all day. But he just doesn't have as many additional qualities that other competitors for his spots have. He needs to work on his contest and defensive side of the game, and that means being harder. braver and perhaps putting on additional muscle. More tackles, more putting his body in when the balls there to be won. He needs more strings to his bow. Still could be good.

Feel sorry for Voss, a champion lion with an enormous heart. All carlton frailties are still there, they haven't been addressed in the off season, so are unlikely to change with this group, and I reckon Voss will be toast as soon as the board can find a replacement. Opening round and half the team looked like they had given up.
