Interesting that in the retrospective 2004 list that Warwick posted last year the Cs were Charman, Bradshaw, Notting and Copeland. Is Rischitelli more progressed or proven than they were three years ago?
I don't really rate riska that highly! Sure his defensive presure is great but skills let him down big time!

Riska = C

His major problem was he started off on a 'star-like' projection that had him looking like an AA after a few rounds of the season. Expectations were set, and once he tapered back to just decent, solid, accountable football, most people were disappointed -- even though he played every game and was at least as good as he was any previous season and often better.

IMO after his brilliant start to the year he tapered back to really struggling for form and lucky not to be dropped, and then playing decent, solid, accountable (but not brilliant) footy towards the end of the year. The fact that he was so inconsistent is perhaps an argument that he isn't yet a B.

I think that description would fit quite a few guy's years. Power and Black in particular come to mind.

I think he's a 'close in' guy at heart, and needs those clever outside runners forward of the contest to connect to look his best. As we swapped runner (Harding/Sherman) for fighters (Selwood/Hadley), Riska's game suffered more than most. Black suffered too, but he's good enough to find other ways home -- that's why he's an A.

There was a moment -- might have been the Dogs game -- where Riska held onto to it right in the guts, looking for an option while JB was triple-teamed, and was run down from behind. Looked bad at the time, but was as much to do with our poor forward structure at the time, as Riska's form.

Unfortunately that incident seemed to stick in people's minds (it stuck in mine) and all the talk after that was "Gee what's happened to Riska's awareness?". Bushy probably did less in the same game, but didn't have a 'signature bad moment' to point at, like Riska did.

FWIW going back to the Hooper and Riska comparison, in the B&F Rischitelli got a total score of 36 (averaging 1.64 'points' per game) while Hooper got a total score of 23.5 (averaging 2.94 points per game).

I am expecting a B from Rischitelli next year. I'm just concerned he's going to have a much improved year playing good football for the majority of games and end up with the same rating as this year.

A couple of people a bit too harsh on Rischitelli.
Whilst I agree it wasn't his best year, he still laid 99 tackles, ( 2nd best at Brisb) , 60 hard ball gets ( 2nd ) and 63 clearances ( 3rd ).
I'll take him as a B grader.
Nah, he's no good... you should've let him go to Essendon.;)

I don't think you can really put Sherman's poor year down to injury. In an article recently he stated himself that he picked up an infection while playing reserves footy (i think?), meaning he'd already been dropped following poor form.

If you class Selwood in the injury colomn, Sherman can join him.

Also can we make a Class E for Moody? To have Moody in the same class as McGrath I find offensive. Ash kicked 20 goals in the first 8 rounds before getting injured. When he returned he had lost a lot of his speed and Hooper pretty much stole the position Ash is most comfortable in. Then again, it shows he's not so versatile. Surely Ash's first 8 games were as good as Copeland's last 8? Decisions decisions...

We have Judd.

Yep, you have Judd alright- just shows how corrupt the AFL draft etc system is, when a club that knowingly ripped off the salary cap for years and years (as I remember it, Carlton was not investigated for the total number of seasons during which they were suspected of rorting, for whatever reason- I suspect because it might have shown just how dodgy Elliott and his mates were, and just how hopeless the AFL was to have allowed it to happen) can now get first draft after first draft, then the top footballer around.

I can hazard a guess at what might be Demetriou's retribution if anything like this had happened at, say Brisbane, which not long ago was fined a huge amount for something as insignificant as late paperwork (!!!!!!).

Like it or not, despite the title AFL, it is still really, to most Vic's, the VFL with a few interstate clubs added on to assist in the finances. Witness the debacle with the attempted relocation of the Kangaroos (are they North Melbourne again yet? I rest my case)

That was the 1 that also stood out to me.
Irish, McGrath & Corrie each had some good games in 2007.
MM didn't have one & is currently that far behind the other 3 the he really belongs with the rookies in D section.

That's a pretty meek list analysis, but it will be interesting to see how Judd goes with Ackland feeding him the pill.

Yeah, if Juddy was cranky enough with tagging to eye-gouge Campbell Brown -- even in good side with Kerr, Cousins, Embley, Stenglein etc drawing their own defensive attention -- he's going to adore this year when most sides have nothing better to do with extra taggers than bolt them onto Juddy.

I can already see Judd getting -15 touches against Selwood, and even less if Copeland gets into him!

Remember in 2005 when Sherman kept Juddstar to 5 touches and Selwood kept Kerr to 12? I do...

I remember Begley and Selwood doing the same to Judd and Kerr in 2006.
