I did post in another thread that we needed to make 13 changes to the list considering that we were to use 5 in the ND and take the 4 NSW boys and also upgrade a couple of rookies.

Happy that we do have 13 but I admit I am surprised that Skipper was one of them. But on reflection, we can do without him as long as Bailey and Lowden don't fall over. A lot of pressure on Hale now.

This presents a fair chance to inject some promising talent. The club must believe we are a bit of a chance to get this talent if we have cleaned house this year.

Re: Hawks drop 11 players....

Wow. Bold move. Will such a big cull test our depth if we have injuruy issues?

So that leaves 6 spots open on the senior list and 6 on the rookie list?

So how many draft picks does that leave us?

as we cut

6 Listed: Taylor, Dowler, Muston, Tuck, Hooper, Croad, Brown

6 Rookies: Peterson, Moss, Kayler-Thomson, Stokes, Johnston, Skipper

And we add Hale and Cheney

We have 5 picks in the national draft, 6 in rookie draft

Or is Bateman now a Veteran as some have mooted?

Would we go for some mature aged rookies?

Re: Hawks drop 11 players....

I was surprised the Hawks had de-listed Skipper and came here to see if anyone knew why ( obviously not ). I would certainly be hoping that StKilda ( Who de-listed Pattison possibly with a view to Rookie listing him ) have now got their eye on Skipper as an alternative. As a depth/backup player I thought he did a great job for Hawthorn.

Re: Hawks drop 11 players....

One would think Bruest, Milne and Sierra might be a chance to take a couple of the 5 senior spots given they are 2-year rookies. Not sure how many years you can keep a guy on the rookie list.

Three.

REALLY REALLY surprised and disappointed with the delisting of Skipper. I don't really understand what a player has to do to get another year at least. I mean... he tried freakin hard and played some pretty good footy at times. Uses the ball well and is not a bad runner.

Delisting skipper and keeping players like Suckling and Morton who are soft and can't play senior level footy is astonishing and really disappointing

Just to clarify:

Out:

Senior-listed players:

Campbell Brown (Gold Coast)
Trent Croad (retired)
Beau Dowler (delisted)
Rhan Hooper (delisted)
Beau Muston (delisted)
Simon Taylor (delisted)
Travis Tuck (delisted)*

Rookie-listed players:

Michael Johnston, NSW Scholarship (delisted)
Jarrod Kayler-Thomson (delisted)
Garry Moss (delisted)
Carl Peterson (delisted)
Wayde Skipper (delisted)
Cameron Stokes (delisted)

In:

Senior list:

Kyle Cheney
David Hale
luke Bruest ?

Rookie List:

Travis Tuck
Thomas Kickett (NSW Scholar) ?

Hawthorn have picks 19, 37, 54, 66, 88, 105, 122, 139???

Anyone else care to guess our list changes to come???

A lot of holes to fill but it was high time for a clean out. Suckling very lucky IMO.......... the plot thickens.

Skipper isn't 'really' delisted i believe. He is hoping to be picked up by someone in the draft, if he doesn't get picked up, hawthorn will rookie list him again.

Good move by the club. The gap must be bridged by getting the our development players such as Shiels, Lowden, Lilse, Savage, Breust to become top 22 or fringe players. For the general development of the team the 'dead wood' must be moved on so everyone can shift over to the left and more development players are drafted.

As for Skipper, it's clear as day he'll be drafted to another club so please stop whining about it. Much the same and Ben McGlynn and Josh Kennedy found another opportunity when we traded for Burgoyne.

if you read back a few pages, there's a suggestion that Skipper may have an offer elsewhere through the draft... if that is the case, then it is more than likely he asked to be delisted to pursue this opportunity.

A victim of our excess ruck stocks and compounded by the new interchange rule. They kept the number one ruck and the developing rucks along with Hale who would now be our Hawkins, Kossie, L Brown. Agree he done everything asked of him but it was always a 1 year deal unfortunatly.

Suckling and Morton would be on notice you would think 1 year, no good no contract.

missed that sorry

guess its good if he can get an opportunity somewhere else. I think he has more to offer the AFL then what he has shown

I must say I was surprised to read that you had delisted Skipper. I thought he played really well, and after the ruck problems you had last year it was even more surprising..Do you think he would be a chance of being placed back on the rookie list again? He will be a good pick up for someone who needs a 2nd ruck..Do feel for him, and we wonder why there is no loyalty any more. I hope he gets picked up, he did his best for you this year..I guess they have their reasons..

Why should we be surprised about the delisting of Skipper, he was nothing but a stop gap option, he played ok against the lesser teams, but against the best teams he was monstored at the centre bounces, throw ins and ball ups, his run up is what actually cost us the game against St Kilda ..... we still have 4 to 5 Ruckman on our list....Hale and Renouf with game time given to Lowden and or Bailey next year...its enough.

I actually saw it coming.
