Maybe Hale and Roughead will play the hybrid roles of ruckman / forward with the new substitute rule.

Renouf plays lead ruckman with these two rotating through to provide relief.

Only way i can get my head around Skipper being delisted (unless he has pre-determined plan to head somewhere else)

Some really poor list management getting rid of BMac and K3 last year.

I am happy with the delistings. Most had one year too many on the list. Stoker was stiff with his injury but the rest never really fired a shot.

Good to see they are persevering with Sirra. He has come on but has a way to go.

The sad thing is we could cut another 4 without hurting our flag chances.

I hope a similar cull is happening with our talent spotting team.

They wanted to leave. Simple as that.

I reckon Dr J is on the mark. Seems to look that way anyway. As we have all said, couldn't see us letting Skipper or Muston go unless they wanted to go.

Sucks about Hooper, I really like the kid, hopefully he can sort his family life out and another club takes a punt on the kid (that's if he's even still interested) and hopefully Peterson can sort out what ever's going on in his life and maybe make it to a rookie list in the future.

I look forward to following Musto's career elsewhere (if he gets picked up), I was really hopeful he could make it at the Hawks, but happy for the kid to just make it anywhere. Same for Skipper, got to really like the bloke throughout last year watching him have his best year to date. Definitely done himself a huge favour having such a good year as it looks like another club wants him.

11 delistings is a lot! But after having a think about it, and reading Dr. J's post which helped make things more understandable, and as much as I'm really going to miss Musto, Skipp, Chubbs and Hoops, I'm quite content with the club's decision on this one.

I've met Musto a few times.

He used to hang out with Mitch Thorpe and was his chauffer at first when he was here.

He remembered my kids at a family day, and I ran in to him on Glenferrie road near the block of appartments on the side street across from Jellis Craig (crooks) where a lot of the Hawks kids get housed up.

He is a sensatiional kid.

One glaring issue, if you watched him play, was that he never bent over for the footy properly. It was probably a preventative thing with his knees, but he always stayed up high over the pill, and left a lot of air between him and the pill for oppostion to come through and under him.

Perfectly normal reaction, but it takes away such a large part of his skills.

Would love to know which club has offered Skipper a full contract if anybody wants to clear that up?

Also, whats this friggin use of the word 'hybrid' poppin up everywhere. What our players are a form of Prius, or a metal wood for golfers that cant hit their long irons??? Shame:rolleyes:

We really need to look at drafting some kids who are "ready to go" next year. Way too often in recent times have we gone with the skinny kid with a ready to peak in 5-7 years attitude. Guys like Rioli, Beams, Selwood, Sidebottom etc. have all been solid contributors to their teams premierships in their 1st/2nd years because they were ready to play football straight away. They became either important first 22 players or valuable depth players in good teams and not to mention their development at getting regular senior experience will develop them into the star footballers.

They wanted to leave. Simple as that.

I dont think so. Clarko didnt rate them so they got fed up and wanted to go. If he thought they were good and committed to playing them and giving them good contracts they would have stayed.

Same with Skipper and prob Muston - and Zac a couple of years ago.

We will soon see if Clarko is wrong about Musto and Skipper like he was about the other 3...

What does your dad think?

I disagree. Rookie picks are speculative at best. Tuck, Hooper and Peterson are gone for Non football related reasons. Skipper wants a better deal elsewhere. Taylor has been superceded.

Dowler and muston wrecked by injuries.

Thanks for asking. My dad thinks that your post is pretty niaive.

He thinks that DOwler and Muston were injured BEFORE they came to the club - so were bad picks.

He also thinks that Tuck, Hooper and Peterson were a mainly result of bad psychological testing by Pelch and co when drafted and/or poor player management when they were at the club...

I think I agree with him. He is usually proven right in these things...

Do you seriously rate Zac Dawson as a KPD? Managing a list is not about individuals, it's about the whole team and the balance of that team measured against the direction in which the club wants to take the list. Players who have left are now playing in other teams with different balances.... comparing the two circumstances is wrong.

Wrong. Savage, Schoenmakers, Lilse, Lowden, Shiels, Breust ect are all ready to make the step from project players to senior players. They will be pushing for senior selection and will be either senior players or depth players. Whoever we draft will be the new project players.

What evidence is there these guys are ready to make the step to senior players. They struggled to get senior games last year mainly due to the likes of Skipper, Peterson and Hooper being in the squad. Saying they will be pushing for senior or depth player status now that these players are not in their way is a bit optomistic . I hope we do alright in the draft.

Yes. Do you seriously rate Stephen gilham?

When players are leaving clubs and getting better, it shows that we dont know who is good - and dont have an environment for players to improve.

Its not like these guys are playing totally different roles...

Our guys got rid of mcglynn so hooper and peterson can play forward. Good idea that was...

Pelchan < hopeless

Sorry Chrissie .. they DID ask to be traded. I thought that was common knowledge.

Move on.

Skipper had a good year. Been in the system a long time for it to happen.

Muston will never achieve his original potential. Feel for the guy, but I would be moving on if I was him as he is not going to make our top 22.

Zac was gone when he was delisted. St kilda gave him a chance and he came good. This wouldn't have happened if he stayed. Stephen Gillam is our Zac.

None of the players cut were going to make it. Hopefully its a sign that we are moving forward. Collingwood are going to make 11 changes with more of them being senior players. Enough said.

I know and agree. But they wanted to go coz Clarko thought they were no good and didnt treat them well. If he offered them games and big contracts they would have preferred to stay.... argh...

We seem to be good at drafting bad players and not even recognising the talent that we do have...

McGlynn walked. Why is it so difficult for you to understand this?

To answer your question, yeah I rate Stephen Gilham. I rate all our players, because I trust the club to do something I can't, and that is have the intelligence to choose the best side they can. I respect Pelchen for what he does, because I know he's doing the best job he can do. I will not criticise someone when I have no idea how to do his job, just as I'd not like it to be done to me.

I'm trying to figure out who will be playing the small forward/defensive forward role.

With Hooper, Peterson, Moss, Stokes, Morton and Brown gone not really sure who is replacing them. Maybe Cyril back to permanent forward and give some young guys a run in the middle??? Maybe a role for Cheney up forward??

Also with Tucky he has been removed off the seniorlist but the Hawks have committed a spot on the rookie list to him.

If they are not able to step up, they need to be cut.

Breust? Will need to work on his defensive side though.

Could Muston end up on the rookie list ala Moss.

and how long can you keep a player on the rookie list?

there is also a new rule where u can leave one rookie spot open until after the NAB cup GF and have to put a player in that spot before the real season starts, I think you list 3 players on a training list and one of them gets the spot.

I believe Tuck might be on this training list,if so he will have to earn his rookie spot. Hopefully Muston at least is given the same chance.

What it all tells me:
Robbie Campbell back to the Hawks via the draft.
Skipper to Bombers senior list.
Muston to WBD.
Peterson will get picked up by somebody.

We have little depth, though it is much the same as it was in 2008.

We are streamlined, trimmed down & finally completely removed the burden of our run of shitty high draft picks.

Next year will either be great or terrible!! We won't finish between 6-10!!

Breust!!!!! Realisitcally as keen as he will be he is hardly going to fill in as a Hooper, Peterson, Moss, Stokes, Morton aor Brown.
