Just had a few delists come in via Lions Alert email:

List Changes
The Brisbane Lions have today announced a series of list changes ahead of the upcoming AFL Trade and Draft periods.

Hugh Beasley, Billy Evans, Jackson Paine, Josh McGuinness and Josh Watts have all been delisted.

It takes the Lions' total number of list changes to eight for the season, with retired trio Daniel Merrett, Trent West and Justin Clarke having already departed.

I think we've actually got it about right.

5 Primary list spots, plus we're likely to trade out Green for picks, so 6.
3 Rookie spots

I reckon the 6 spots will be:
With PP: Picks 1, 3, 21, Archie, Allison, Watson/vacant spot.
Without PP: Picks 2, 20, Archie, Allison, Watson/vacant spot, vacant spot.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Jaden McGrath downgraded to the rookie list, to free up another vacant spot - the club can re-elevate him straight away if he is going to get a game.

I would like to think that, unless there's someone left that they REALLY rate, that the club will be deliberately leaving vacant spot/s at the end to get our list numbers down, allowing us to keep the ability to combine picks for academy pickups. Pulling our list down by 2 numbers and compensating for it with more rookies (who can be immediately upgraded in-season) would get rid of the AFL's ridiculous "you can only enter the draft with as many picks as you have spots on your list" anti-academy push in time for next year. Short of someone they really rate being available, I'd be passing.

It doesn't help having less picks on the list, but still - I reckon it's worth it.

So assuming jaden stays and is rookie listed that means we have 6 spots on the senior list. 7 if green goes for picks. And back to 6 if we upgrade archie.

Your also assuming that we trade nobody for picks too. U never know. I actually wouldnt mind some listed players from other clubs. Would love to target some qlders. Like Keefee but try to sign Frost as well. A developing ruckman (more mature then Smith) like Naismith. All have a lot of football to be played in their career. Us being rumoured to Hoskin-Elliot and Lennon... not sure if we need that type of player. Also surprised by the delisting of Beasley and Evans. Thought both had potential.
