List changes have been announced by the club:

Sam Skinner, Matthew Eagles, Toby Wooller, Jacob Allison and Corey Lyons were informed of the decisions during end-of-season meetings carried out this week.

They join veteran Allen Christensen, who retired on Wednesday, as off-season departures.

Cedric Cox has also informed the Club he is seeking a move to Western Australia for family reasons.

Grant Birchall to play on.

Former Hawthorn star Grant Birchall is one of those players whose career has been prolonged by the Lions’ medical staff.

Despite injuring his hamstring in Brisbane’s season-ending 40-point loss to Geelong last Saturday, 32-year-old Birchall played in 16 of the Lions’ 19 matches this season.

It was enough games to trigger an extension in the veteran defender’s Lions contract.

“I’ve got plenty of time to recover from the injury,” said Birchall, who will have scans on Friday to determine the extent of the damage.

“I’ll go around again and have another crack at it.”

Hey guys, pardon the intrusion.
Saw Jacob Allison was delisted and was wondering what happened to him?
AA draft year, academy kid, big bodied who looked an absolute gem.

May have looked it but never played like it, probably would have been delisted end of last season if not contracted.

Allison is a competent enough footballer and reasonable athletically, but he just doesn’t really have any attributes that are going to make him stand out at AFL level. He does most things OK but ultimately there are probably several hundred players around the country who are no better or worse than him playing in their state competitions.

He will make quite a solid contributor at the next level down (and showed that at NEAFL level prior to this year), but he won’t be a star there either. He does have quite a nice kick on him so some club will pick him up at one or two levels down from AFL and he will serve them reliably.

I like him - I reckon the system moved passed him a bit. He's basically a winger - good run, thumping kick - but he doesn't have the defensive pressure or on-ball ability that teams (and definitely the Lions) are looking for in wingers in today's game. He'd be worth a look for a team looking for his attributes.

Regarding the 3 out of contract guys.
Going on Nobel's interview today Stef could miss out next year. Stef turns 35 in 2021
Lester earned an extension with how he played this year. One year with a trigger or 2 years max. Turns 29 in 2021

I believe we need a bigger bodied midfielder. We have 3 on our list that could be classed in this category.
CEY 190cm & 90kg. Had some chances this year but is a bit slow. Think he is backup but could gel better with the team next year. Turns 28 in 2021.
Mathieson 188cm & 87kg. Played 47 game but only 1 v Roos this year. Still has potential but would need to show something different in 2021. Turns 24 in January
Maybe Eli Smith 187cm & 87kg. We could not get a look at him this year so just a guess he has been playing with some mid time.

Mitch Hinge is the interesting one. Listed at 190cm & 85kg. Turns 23 in 2021 so still young. Possibly more than 85kg now.
Only 3 games in 4 years but played well against Sydney in round 17 this year
On rookie list & out of contract but has not been delisted yet.
He was named emergency quite a few times in 2020 so must have been showing something

Wouldn’t class Mathieson as a big bodied mid. Doesn’t play like one.

I did say "could be classed in this category"
I suppose my point being is will we be looking to trade in one. Noble did not indicate this in the interview he just mentioned a tall.
I just think to get a bit of balance in the midfield we need one that is more mobile than CEY who struggled to get games.
So will the Club resign the out of contract Hinge to fill this gap?.

So a big mid in the Cripps mold? Or a big mid in the Oliver or Dangerfield mold?

I believe JBerry can play similar to Cripps.

I believe we need an Oliver type or something similar.

With a bit of luck Berry continues to improve and gets as good as Bont, Fyfe & Cripps.
I am thinking the other mid would be a bit taller than Oliver.
The mold of players i am thinking of are- Macrae 191cm & 85kg, Dunkley 190cm & 88kg both very mobile

So i am back to Hinge. His three game have been solid stat wise.
I remember when he did play i was thinking at the time he could turn out okay. He is 190cm & 85+kg.
But for the life of me i can't recall how mobile he is as the mobility part is important

Going by the above list we have 20 players out of the 38 on the primary list that are out of contract next year.
Of the 20 OOC 11 were regular 22 last year. Then their is Coleman, Deven Robertson, Payne, Ballenden, Mathieson, Joyce, Prior, B.Smith, McFadyen.
Not sure if this is a bigger number than usual going into the next year
Priority in some sort of order could be
McCluggage, McInerney, Rich, Lyons, Starcevich, Rayner, McCarthy, Zorko, Bailey, Coleman, Payne, D Robertson, M Robinson + maybe some others
I suppose if they can resign say 6 of these over the break or early next year then work on the others during 2021

Lets hope the players want to stay together to win a premiership.

Listening to Noble on today’s Roar Deal episode, certainly sounds like the club might see Connor McFadyen in that type of role.

I know he played through the midfield a bit at the U18 Championships in his draft year, and that’s what pushed him up draft boards at the time.

Have no idea how McFadyen played in the twos this year but he did play in the preseason game v Port.
I just checked to see what sort of team we rolled out in that game.
Both Lions & Port had close to their best 22 playing that day. The exception was Adams played instead of Lester
We played 26 players. Outside our best 22 were McFadyen, E Smith, C Ballenden
So McFadyen was in the mix at the start of the season
Be nice to know if the Club had a B&F for the twos this year and if so who polled well

McFadyen did is ACL at training and i believe missed most of the ressie matches this year

List sizes for next year seem close to be agreed upon

The maximum number of primary listed players on club lists will drop to between 36 and 38 down from 38 to 40 now.

The maximum number of primary-listed players a club can have is contingent on the number of rookies the club wishes to take. This year if a club had 38 primary-listed players they could have up to six rookies, if they had 40 on the primary list they could have up to 4 rookies for a maximum of 44 players. They could then have up to three Category B rookies on top of that.

Under the plan for next year that primary list figure has now been cut by two - to a maximum of 38 primary list players - and clubs can have up to a maximum of six rookies (four category A rookies and two category B rookies) for a total maximum of 44 players.

If a clubs has a full book of seven rookies (four category A and three Category B) they can have only 37 players on their primary list.

Category B rookies are the players coming to the AFL from outside the system – the overseas players or the soccer players or basketballers. This year clubs could have up to three Category B rookies next year it will be cut to two.

A club next year could have as few as 36 primary listed players but then they must also have at least one rookie – to get to the overall minimum figure of 37 players. Previously there was no requirement for a club to have any rookie listed players.

West Australian young guns Deven Robertson and Jaxon Prior are the latest Brisbane Lions players to re-sign with the Club, committing until 2022.

Robertson and Prior both came to the Club from Perth in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft at Pick 22 and 59 respectively.
