My manlove for Levi probably matches that of TSWs to Bass. If we get him I would probably have a heart attack of happiness. He is exactly the type of player we could do with. Incredibly tough, quite quick, inside & outside, massive leg. I would hope Brad is in his ear trying to get him to request a trade here.

Should get him to fly over to Melbourne and have a chat with him.

Don't forget to buy tickets for Primus and Broadbent and make sure they're equipped with shiny buttons and a brass band.

Could he play a Shannon Hurn type role?

would trade our 2nd round for greenwood in a heartbeat. no matter where our 2nd round pick is.

to be honest, does not fit what we really need to bring in which is a top midfield prospect but would make our 22 stronger and be a big upgrade on some of those mids that are around the very back-end of our team.

do you seriously think we could get him for that price or are you a north boy that values him a bit less than others? is he out of contract i wonder?

I have not seen him play much this year... because he is rarely in the team and when he plays he doesn't get a kick and when he does it isn't good! Early second rounder! I think he has another year on his contract. Better than Motlop.

Levi's a good lad and would be something like Brad Ebert; honest as the day is long, run hard 'till he dropped and a very serviceable player who is better than some we have but not the top class type that we desperately need.

I'll put this here since he's not a free agent. Greg Broughton has seemed to be out of favour with Ross Lyon this year, and we all know what a shitty man manager Ross Lyon is. WA boy, so if the relationship between him and the club breaks down his only option for a hometown trade would be West Coast and with Hurn, Waters, Butler, Schofield, Smith, Brennan etc. on their list they probably wouldn't be overly interested.

I wonder if we'd chase him if he wanted out? I'd like to add him to our side for the same reason I wanted to add Butler or Adcock. Frees up Pearce and Hartlett to play in the midfield where they're both at their most damaging, and gives us a backline player who can defend well AND rebound well which we still don't really have yet.

It's nothing special, but I wouldn't really think of it as a problem. Certainly no worse than the disposal of our current back 6. His strength is more in the sheer amount of ball he racks up while still keeping an opponent quiet. But when I put it that way he starts to sound a lot like the Kane Cornes of the backline. :/

Broughton is 22ish?

It would also create another Port player to be talked about in DT contention

We're getting pretty close to the end of the season now so I'll update my predicted end of year changes:

This is what I had previously:
Re: Drafting, Trading & Rookie Thread

It's still early days but the way it's looking to me is like this:

Rookies:
Webb - promote/trade
Curnow - retain (3rd year)
Pfeiffer - retain
D.Butcher - retain
Irons - delist
Jonas - delist

Senior List:
Players to delist/trade
Banner - 4 years on the list now, not major improvement
Bre.Ebert - not a small forward and doesn't have the tank for a midfield role
Phillips - not AFL standard
Rodan - only plays one way and is limited
Salopek - looks like the game has passed him by :(
Thomas - not AFL standard
Salter (rookie list if need be) - not AFL standard

Webb is too valuable as a tall forward to outright delist, he may have some trade value to get us an extra draft pick, should at least spend a year on our senior list if he isn't traded. Pfeiffer to be retained on the rookie list for depth. Happy to keep Logan for an extra year at least.

Now the updated list:
Rookies:
Webb - delist
Curnow - retain (3rd year)
Pfeiffer - promote
D.Butcher - retain (injury will probably buy him a second year)
Irons - delist
Jonas - promote

Senior List:
Players to delist/trade
Salopek - still not looking good for Sal
Phillips - not up to AFL
Rodan - may get a lifeline but his time at Port Adelaide is up
Logan - loses his spot on the list to Jonas
Bre.Ebert - been on borrowed time for far too long now
Salter - shouldn't have been given a 2 year deal, move him to the rookie list

Then it gets interesting - what happens with Pearce and Jacobs may figure in Banner's fortunes. I think Banner will be safe but he's in a danger zone IMO, especially if Salter and Bre.Ebert stay on the senior list in 2013. Thomas will likely be at the club in 2013. We may get an extra senior list spot with the veteran's list assimilating into the senior list next year. Either way, it appears that this years' end of year list changes may finally start to shape the list as opposed to just scraping off the obvious deadwood in the last couple of years.

One i wouldn't mind getting over here is Koby Stevens, fits our mould of players, knows Bradley

But then he reminds me a bit of Jacobs but as a midfielder

Rookie list:
Curnow - gone
Webb - very gone
D. Butcher - gone unless we're worried about J. Butcher's reaction
Irons - I'd retain on the rookie list, but probably gone
Pfeiffer - Proved me wrong, well done to him. Promote
Jonas - promote

Senior list:

What should happen:
Out: Phillips, Brett Ebert, Logan, Thomas, Cassisi, Salter, Rodan

What will happen:
Out: Phillips, Salopek, Banner, Hitchcock, Rodan. More 'honourable losses' next year that get us nowhere as a club with a group that gives their all but just isn't very good and doesn't have the talent to get any better. More idiots on the Facebook page and in the coaches box thinking that giving 100% is enough to make you a star even if you have no discernible football ability. Rinse and repeat until Primus finally G's TFO.

One i wouldn't mind getting over here is Koby Stevens, fits our mould of players, knows Bradley

He's Victorian. If he wants out he'll have plenty of offers from his home state to consider before bothering with us.

Always plays well in the WAFL, but doesn't break into the Eagles side that often due to their midfield strength and depth and when he does he's the sub or playing on a flank somewhere. IIRC correctly he went to school with Butch?

In any case, he's hardly a secret and every club in Victoria would be interested in him. If we are prepared to offer more than them, then we could land him, but the Eagles will be fighting to keep him too.

Why would we make it public?

Couldn't we just try a trade with WCE? He hasn't played like a superstar or anything, but still fills the type of players we need

Hellgood, i agree but i think we have enough stuff over the other Vic clubs that would want him. Game time, time in the middle, mate is over here (whats good When Butch "wants to leave") and Brad as well on top of that

How much would we have to pay though?

He still has to agree to a trade. He's a pretty good player, he'll have plenty of Victorian clubs interested in him. We'd have to outbid them by quite a lot to get him to come to the smallest AFL club in South Australia rather than going to a probably bigger club in his home state. Probably wouldn't be worth the amount that we'd have to pay him.

Kobe Stevens and Tom Swift are both AFL ready mids not getting an opportunity, however I think they will both hang around for another year or two of suffering, its not oftern you get good kids leaving good clubs and they would realise Priddis and Kerr are slowing. However if we were able to land either or both ild be shipping McCarthy off also.

Gone,
Phillips
Logan
Brett
Irons
Webb
Rodan
Salopek
*McCarthy

Anyone thinking Hitchcock is on the way out aren't in the know, Williams pissed in Primus' ear too much and Primus honestly believes Alfie is the second comming.of Stevie Milne and will perform in.our set up. I honestly think McCarthy could be shown) the door, unsure what his contract situation is but a kid (Cameron O'Shea) with far more upside could play the role he is of hard running accumulator with a terrible kick.

Surely you would expect a 22 year old AFL league footballer to have the skill to be able to deliver a preferred foot kick under no immediate pressure somewhere near a teammate 40m away?

This isn't even a matter of self-determination vs the the club's responsibility. This is someone who has grown up kicking a football. He kicks a football for a living. This is a basic skill that has been honed for nearly 20 years.

If McCarthy's kicking can get him this far in football it shouldn't need to be reconstructed by a club training program.
