Some idiot took a rumour about Melbourne offering a 4 year deal and changed it to us offering a 4 year deal.

Nobody in the AFL media has any idea about what we are doing so lets just wait till trade week comes around.

Pearce for Gumbelton is something I would rather see. Do not want Monfries, Dyson, Moloney or anyone 24 or older from another club under 6'3. Like I said earlier H.Jolly & Rh.O'Keefe should be invited to train with us if they get cut loose by their respective clubs.

The Surj going stuff have some legs? I hope not because keeping him may stamp Logan's books.

I could see us cutting Newton, Salter, Young, Hitchcock, Pittard and keeping Thomas, Rodan, Phillips, Logan etc. at years end... God I hope not, but definitely see it a possibility.

Pittard just signed for another 2 i doubt we'd be getting rid of him

I meant keep the plodders who will never be anything more than triers and throw away the kids with the skill and spice to be AFL players. Newton, good skills, poise, smart, Hitchcock offensively looks ok, skills seem to be good, quick, Salter the Moneyball man as opposed to Thomas who lacks poise, skills let him down but is strong, Logan who doesn't have the skills of the elite players, lacks pace but has a pain threshold similar to Optimus Prime.

Look at the other clubs (mainly the successful clubs) and look at their plodders (and how many in their best 22) this is where we fall over.

Newton could be our Whitecross/Xavier Ellis and Hitchcock could be our Puopolou/Varcoe ie the cream we need if injuries gave them a full preseason and consecutive games through the season.

TSW my man love for Newton is similar to it was for Bryan Lees and Michael Willson. I have seen Newton a few times and he screams class. I have no doubt if we had a reserves comp Newton would be on everyone's tounge in a similar way Banner is mentioned. For those that haven't seen Newton in the flesh, a quicker version of Salopek.

Add to my point earlier, Banner is the plodder Hawthorn/Collingwood/West Coast have, good skills, solid in all areas bar one (Banners speed) but we pump games into the triers with terrible skills and zero poise... Go figure?

I'll ask a question, would we all be as frustrated with Hitchcock if Phillips was not on our list? Also Logan, Pfeiffer and Thomas, are we short on these blokes because there are just do many? All teams need their glue but this just seems like 5 year olds got to the clag and half of the bottle is covered in excessive dryed, useless sh*t...

Fun fact:

Statistically over his career and over the past season, Monfries is almost equivalent to Matthew Thomas in disposals and disposal efficiency, with 1-2 less tackles per game, a few less contested possessions per game, 0.8 more goals per game, and 1 less clanger per game.

They are the same age (to within one month), although Monfries has played almost twice as many matches.

Now, personally I think Thomas has failed more often than not in the defensive forward role and think Brett Ebert is of more value than him - although I understand why many want Ebert out due to structural/game style reasons. If we're chasing Monfries that hard, we're almost certainly over-estimating him based on the "grass is always greener on the other side, especially when he's a South Australian" philosophy.

Would rather T.Stribbling. Seriously don't understand the love with Monfries. I don't think our side is in a position to be punting on average players from other clubs. Would rather a compensation pick for Chaplin than Monfries, R.Dyson, Moloney or anyone else we have been linked to! Premiership contending sides can take punts on average players around the place, but a side that needs quality and substance to build new foundations doesn't.

Port offering Monfries a 4 year deal has to be absolute nonsense. It would be our first 4 year deal in years. In fact, I can't remember our last 4 year deal.

The thing American sports have taught us about restricted free agency is u need to make a contract offer ugly (ie too long, too much, loaded in years the other team has key players out etc) to try and make the other team think twice about matching it

Restricted free agency will see some horrible contracts offered by teams who are desperate to land a player and will pay overs to do it
