Direct compensation would be very unfair on whoever had to come to Port Adelaide. Imagine a young bloke trying to fathom being a replacement for a young man who has tragically passed, trying to fill his shoes. It's just horrible to think about.
Might as well pass on his jumper number as well.![]()

Just wondering if a PP will now be offered given these unforeseen tragic circumstances.
35 should be retired
I don't know about retired, but it should be put away for a few years. It's raw now, and no player would want to wear it, but it has history. 35 isn't just JMac's number. Imagine in 10 years, a new kid being handed the number 35, and learning about the JMac legacy and the heroics of Chad Cornes. It would be a cause of great inspiration and pride.
When we see 35 running on the field (whenever that might be) it gives us a chance to remember him. I don't want to lose that by retiring the number.
I think we had a reasonable chance of getting an end of Rd 1 priority pick if the AFL "formula" was reasonable given our last 2 years, last year was a compromised draft and we went from getting pick 2 to pick 6 because the GWS came in and even this year its a bit compromised given Melbourne and Doggies will use their compo picks to kick us down from pick 5 to 7. I think JMac's passing will lock in a priority concession and may move it from end of rd 1 to mid rd 1 pick. Can't see it being a pre rd 1 pick.
When Troy Broadbridge passed away Melbourne were given the chance to list a mature-age state player (Shannon Motlop IIRC). That was after the draft though, so I have no idea how they'll approach this.
I think this is the best way to look at it. Ultimately, it was a career ending injury...I'm not sure they will offer any compensation or even should, its tragic but list wise its no different to a player having a career ending injury.
Can't believe people are sitting here bartering over compensation.
It appears Jolly is on our radar. Interestingly the club is confident back in Adelaide he can change is fortunes and has been led astray up on the GC.
A lot of players at Alberton seem to lack worth ethic.A lot of players on the gc seem to lack work ethic
Maybe we can change that with jolly. It's worth the shot.
