I hope Monfries is a much better player than Pearce, (which I personally think he is nowhere near Pearce) because we have lost him over the Monfries offer. More amusing is Monfries preference is Crows not Port.

agree. im not sold yet he is going anywhere but if it is the case do not let him walk. he is a restricted free agent for a reason. we are not hamstrung in any way and can play it the way we want.

Let's be honest Pearce has been recognized for both having sublime skill and having that skill easily tagged out of the Game And criticized for not working hard enough

We gave him his chance and he hasn't performed at a high standard for all of his games across his career in fact I think it's almost 50/50

port have carried him and played him when form didn't warrant it he owes port more than we owe him

While I agree with posters like Gopower that we need many more players like Pearce who can run and carry I don't think we should get bent over a barrel by a under performing diva either

I also don't get the Monfries hate either he's not an A grader but a de ent small forward/flanker those who are trying to say hes just a brett ebert clone are just irrational

let's be honest this BS of 4 yr deals comes from the same sources who say Boak was going to Geelong Trengove Moore were also gone as though it was fact.....

Nobody really knows what is or isn't on the table what I and everyone else here should know is the club deserves more from a bloke who owes everything to it and hasn't always been there to return the love....

How do I know. He is a friend of my son, so I take an interest!

What a load of crap that we have carried him. Look at his stats over the years compared to most of our other players; they stand up! He is a metre eater and which ever end we have played him he has led the inside or rebound count and kicks per game he is top and in the top group in the AFL.

As Malthouse and Roos says...no players owe any club anything once their contract is over, just as clubs don't owe players anything. Clubs get rid of players the second they don't see them as part of the future...just as fans want to trade off players when they don't like them or see them fit in anymore. It is a business. But to be out right lied to by a club is disheartening for any player.

i find it very hard to believe that anyone that is in our top 25% (which we know pearce is because he is a restricted free agent) is not on huge money. we are putting our money somewhere since we have to meet minimum cap. im also gonna call bullshit that we would have denied 4 yr deals to all our list then offered it to monfries. i dont believe anyone would leave our club over money, we must be over-paying so many right now. it would have to be other factors if they are considering going elsewhere.

Stop the limp wristed implications are you saying that Danlye Pearce has told you this?! or are you using your sons 'friendship' with him to back up the fact youve read the paper and feel that somehow that adds weight to this argument?

We have carried him at times, across his career Pearce has good disposal stats but I think its farily well documented over several years he hasn't worked hard enough to beat tags...

Lets talk stats, he averages 19 disposals per game across his career just to put that in context Pendlebury averages 24, Swan 26, Ablett 24 with two years at GC. Thats the best in the business if he worked that hard and was that good sure throw the toys out of the pram and hold your breath for a 4 year deal....

Closer to home Brad averaged 22 touches per game this year to Pearces 21 except Brad had TWICE as many tackles, Kornes ave 25, Broadbent averaged 19 disposals this season yet I dont see him being mortally wounded for not getting a 4 year deal, in fact he lives close to my best friend's parents they say he is just stoked to be getting a good contract with the club, I could go on...

He is in the top 25% of our cap which means the club hasnt exactly shafted him and based on these type of stats its where he belongs.

Dont get me wrong Im not a Pearce hater I just dont think its fair that not being offered a 4 year deal when nobody else has is a good enough reason to turn your back on the place that gave you your shot. If he wants to leave for a truckload of money then sobeit but come out and say it and live with the reputation that creates, dont try and pretend its the clubs fault!

Loyalty isn't dead there are some great examples of players who couldve left for greener pastures and didnt, I think in the era of free agency the loyalty applies to a rarer type of player who feels a deep connection with a club and its culture Pearce should be one of these people IMO but doesnt seem to be....

You have missed my whole point. The point is monfries has been offered a four year deal despite what you think and if pearce moves clubs it has nothing to with money or length of contract but the fact the club or rhode to be precise told him no four year deals would be on the table for anyone but they did. Those who have inside knowledge never reveal their true source

Losing Pearce would be a massive blow, no doubt about it, and most Port fans know this (as I'm sure the club does).

But the club offering Monfries a 4 year contract and not Pearce does simply not make sense, and the fact that your scoop appears to be a concoction of various rumours already reported in the media makes me sceptical that this would be true, particularly since you are reporting what is at best secondhand information and at worst the musings of an alias troll.

This 'Danyle Pearce doesn't work hard enough' stuff should disappear after this year. Had a shocker against St. Kilda to start the year but has been quite consistent since then. Topped 20 disposals in 12 out of 18 games (excluding the sub game) since then and topped 24 disposals in 10 games.

He's been carrying us this year, not the other way around.

Further, we can't make offers until 1 Oct. Now we know teams bend the rules all the time, but why would we do this so brazenly that one of OUR squad finds out.

Pearce needs to be a priority over Monfries. Get that sorted and then deal with FA's.

Teams are making offers to players through their agents (and probably signing heads of agreements) before that deadline all the time.
