If they delist him straight away we can free agent him and they get nothing

Since you're the rules buff, does the 'delisted free agent' thing affect the compensation given for non-delisted free agents? If it does, that's yet another flaw in these rules.

If there are any loopholes they will just change the rules 5mins before the deadline like they did to get Cornes/Brogan/Power to GWS.

Getting the rules right has never been high on their list of priorities...

I havent got a copy of the fa rules but given whats been published .... yeah im pretty sure it would.

Basically they will look at every restricted/ unrestricted fa you lose and weigh that up againt restricted/unrestricted and delisted that you gain and determine compo based on difference.

Basically it means dont select a delisted player as a fa unless you really need to...or your not losing anyone to fa

You dont get compo for club delisted players

You don't get compo for club delisted players, but recruiting club delisted players counts against compo if you lose a player to FA? FFS.

Anyone voted on afl.com's Trade Machine site? 73% voting to keep Tommy Logan, 90% for Matt Thomas, so I guess not ;) . They're both doing better than Danyle Pearce at 50%.

Trade Machine

I know Coad has injury woe's but didn't he play the last couple of games? Would he be worth a gable along with Jolly?

In Gold Coast's last game of the season Coad was just about their best player so he's a stiff to get delisted. That said he plays a bit like Chaplin, only undersized, exactly the type of player we need to avoid.

**** I hate the Trade Machine. Mainstream Port fans are such ****ing dumbasses.

73% of people want to keep Tom Logan. 89% of people want to keep Matt Thomas. 81% of people want to keep Brett Ebert. 81% of people want to keep David Rodan.

52% of people want to keep Jacob Surjan. 50% of people want to keep Danyle Pearce.

What's the point of putting up a trade machine when everyone just sides with exactly what the club is doing? You know, the club that has reached the tremendous heights of 16th and 14th in the last two years? But surely if we just keep playing exactly the same senior players who have failed us year in year out for the last 5 years things will get better, right?

Bunch of ****ing sheep.

He's a good player. But he's like 29, which is the only reason he'd be delisted I'd say.

Ah, Rucci - just love his football insights. Our "urgent need for an inside midfielder..........".

Does he watch matches closely and appraise our list with any sort of individual thought.

Inside midfield (while it could be better) is not our big problem nor should it/will it be over the next 2-3 years. It's skill, pace, run and carry that we are so deficient in.

I can name 7 midfielders who can contribute significantly well on the inside and all are miles ahead of where Jolly is or will be.

Other than Pearce, I can't name one who consistently carries the lines for us, though.

I wouldnt be against picking up Coad. mckenna pretty much ended his career forcing him on the ground when he injured himself last year

Is it just me or is there a lot more players than usual linked to Port this year?

It has been lively since the season ended.

Greenwood
Moloney
Russell
Monfries
Jurrah
Chapman (caller to 5CC so even less likely than usual)
Moore (Swans)
Jolly
McCarthy

off the top of my head.

Angus Monfries

Age
born 19 January 1987 (age 25)

The numbers
Drafted No. 14 2004 National Draft
Height/Weight 184/78 kg

What role does he play?
Defensive small forward.

Fills a need in the team?
Other small forwards
1. Robbie Gray
2. Chad Wingard
3. Hitchcock
4. Banner
5. Rodan

What roles can he play?
Midfield
? inside mid: small frame. Club have more solid options in Brabert, Broadbent, Boak, Hartlett
? outside mid: does not have pace.
? link: possible role here

Exposed form?

http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web/player_profile?pid=2005039

Has he peaked?
Yes has been given every opportunity with Essendon (150 games)

and likelihood to improve?
Low

Ideal offer?
2 years. 3 years max.
4 years would be pushing it. Why -> see below

Likelihood of being delisted at the end of 2 years?
Low to medium given his niche role.

Other teams in the hunt?
Jay Clark was the one who reported that Melbourne were the ones who offered him the 4 year contract first

Conclusion

Good points
Good age. Proven to be effective at his role.
PAFC small forward not established.
-Gray injured, fitness concerns 2013.
-Hitchcock/Banner ? surviving delistment.
-Wingard more of a mid > forward.
-poor forward 50 pressure generally

To be explored
Despite 150 games there are still question marks over his utility.
Niche role, ? if not performing after 2 years, would make a 4 year contract excessive.

Not sure what kind of terms Marlon Motlop left the club on but if we're after a defensive forward/midfielder.

Marlon MOTLOP (Swan Districts)
