A top key defender to replace bobby or chappy. Don't think we can have both of them in same team as they are both good players, but neither good enough to be top players. One can be the bishop type third tall, but can't have 2.

Pretty much agree with your ideas here...
I agree that Bob and Chappy are similar insomuch that they are medium skilled laconic types that will not give us the Gibson/o'brien defensive rebound I would like....but not sure about trading them

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced it's carlile that needs replacing. 192cm just isn't big enough to be a key defender anymore. We won't win a flag with him in that key post

Bob was full of promise early days but Has not really developed into the player I thought he would be or maybe that we needed

I was hoping for a Wakelin type or Mal Michael type, strong, disciplined and when necessary rebounding. I think he is very much more like Rutten but without the same confidence or polish

Of all the positions we have to worry about on our list, provided we're having a flag tilt in the next 5 years, tall defender isn't one of them IMO.

Fix up the ease of opposition inside 50s and Jacko, Chappy, Bob, Surj and P.Stew start to look like superdefenders.

Wakelin retired 5 years ago.

192 is a bit low, but there's no point talking about moving him on if we don't have a ready replacement.

If only we had had the foresight to draft a key defender a few years back.........

When wakelin was out there the opposition forwards weren't the likes of day etc who are very tall. I put it down to the basketball revolution of the 90's that saw the game struggle to attract big men.

I think that if we lost one or two of the talls for a few weeks we would be stuffed.

agree with the above comments. i think this year our backline ahs been the shinning light... And when the ball hits our forward line that hasnt been to bad either.
Its the midfield/ruck. To much good ball hitting our backlines and not enough inside 50s. Simple!

Its time to start looking at mids!

Backline has been a shining light, but get an injury or two there, and that can change quickly.

Gold Coast need to cut their list by two. They also need to add Omeara and probably Horsley to the list. Jolly is doing nothing in the local comp. He is highly likely to be delisted. Under the new rules i think we can directly contract a delisted player to our list. Adelaide will delist less players so would be unlikely to want Jolly. Jolly was highly rated and played quite well last year. He is a strong mid with good skills. The question is, 'What the $#&^$@ has happened to him this year? No idea. He is struggling to get a game for their reserves? If only we had an obsessive Port supporter with links to Glenelg! I would be happy if he got a one year contract on the main list.

Made the comment earlier in the thread about him so I did a bit of research turns out he was injured a bit earlier in the year and I assume he is just struggling to come back from that.
