As soon as I read 'who can push into the midfield' on Sam Mayes' bio I lost interest. No more players who can 'push into the midfield', just ****ing MIDFIELDERS.

maybe you think we should add another guy who can rack up 20+ possessions in the midfield but couldnt hit the side of a barn?

in seriousness i get what your saying. we need midfielders not project players, but i wont be to upset if we are looking to consider improving footskills since that is our single biggest weakness as a side.

ild have no problem whatsoever if they go with a proper mid like wines though.

I don't like drafting players that are already a big strong size. I know it sounds crazy considering our lot of string beans but reason is that guys that are bigger now may be playing better cos they are physically advanced, but once the rest catch up in early 20's can bd found out a bit. I put rich into that category, greenwood would be another

Jack Darling too ?

Rich is playing some damn good football right now after a tough year last season.

I can assure you Mayes is no tank at the moment.

I haven't seen brizzy play much this year, so can't really rate him now. But until this year was def overrated.
EDIT. That was prob a bit harsh. I just haven't seen him impact games like I expected.

Know a few kids at swan districts who have gone through the system with garlett, apparently has quite a poor work ethic and doesn't work hard to better himself. Take it with a grain of salt, but I'm not sure that is the kind of player we need in our situation.

Reality is that we need wines, toumpass and Mayes. Can't we just have them all? And keep boak of course!!
this where the PAFC talent hiding team should swing into action. Paper bags of cash are delivered to the boys to quit football and announce they have career ending injuries and want to just hang out get stoned. Then they nominate for the draft with one day spare and we pick them up with late picks. If i was on the PAFC board this would happen.

How about our recruiting "team" just grow some balls and get aggressive and creative at the trade table like Adelaide did last season.
The only win they had out of that is getting Crouch, all of the other trades i wouldn't call a win at all. Crouch could easily be turned into not a win as well

We have

27-28 yo (?) Schulz

big gap

Butcher

We have a need for a key forward who is ready to play. Th coaches don't see Salter as the answer.

Dawes is a good size, right age, has kicked 30 goals in a year, can stay on the park. At worst he would be a solid backup player and might stop us from going to complete shit when Schulz misses games.

Que drafting Callum Wilson at the end of the year as a rookie

i wouldnt trust them. how many kids leave after their first contract expires??

how many kids, that are being given absolutely every chance and are playing club football week in week out leave?

or more importantly, how many players in the afl are still not re-signed at this stage of the season? hundreds maybe?

i wouldnt worry too much right now

FYI: Don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere, but just heard on 5AA that Jacobs has been offered a contract but has yet to sign, and may not sign.

I'm sure opposition clubs will be tripping over their shoelaces to sign Jacobs

Sad thing is he comes in as a first round pick and leaves as a third.

Just on Jacobs, how good did Atley look in the game last night? Second year player with speed and confidence and determination and skill, playing as the attacking and creative half-back flanker we are craving. It increasingly seems that we did f**k that selection up, too.

Leaving would be career suicide for Jacobs. If we can get a pick in the 30s or 40s I would take that for sure.

I maintain we should trade Lobbe off if we can get a good enough pick for him. Rucks need to be able to win hitouts or they might as well not be out there.

It is very easy to want to get rid of a player based on one bad game or even two, especially in the direct aftermath of a loss.

We must try and look at a player's overall performances over a period of time. The vitriol directed at Brett Ebert last week is a case in point. Today he was excellent and he deserves his place in the team. Players are not machines and do have average games from time to time.

It is when a player shows consistently that he is not up to league standard that we, as fans, should scream loudly that they should not be in the side.

Sometimes of course, there are young lads just embarking on their careers that require patience on our behalf and certainly should not be dismissed as players of the future based on one or two or a handful of games.

The ones in this category are, J.Butcher, B.Jacobs, T.Jonas, A.Moore, C.O'Shea, J.Pittard, C.Wingard, A.Young, M.Lobbe, J.Redden. These lads have been up and down, as one would expect, but all of them have the potential to be 150 game plus players for Port.

For mine, the ones that should definitely be dispensed with are, J.McCarthy, D. Pfeiffer and T.Chaplin although, this year he has been pretty good except for last week's game where the pressure and occasion got to him and he was found wanting so that, in itself, tells us that he is not up to it.

Of the others, M.Banner, C.Hitchcock, S.Phillips should go to make way for others.

If we really want to invest very heavily on youngsters and wait another 4 or 5 years beyond what it's going to take already to be Premiership contenders then, D.Cassisi, K.Cornes, T.Logan, D.Rodan, S.Salopek, and N.Salter should be traded in for newer models.
