I think we had a reasonable chance of getting an end of Rd 1 priority pick if the AFL "formula" was reasonable given our last 2 years, last year was a compromised draft and we went from getting pick 2 to pick 6 because the GWS came in and even this year its a bit compromised given Melbourne and Doggies will use their compo picks to kick us down from pick 5 to 7. I think JMac's passing will lock in a priority concession and may move it from end of rd 1 to mid rd 1 pick. Can't see it being a pre rd 1 pick.

As PM said, way too early to contemplate this issue now. A valid discussion another day.

Yeah a PP is surely coming our way

Pfieffer deseres a upgrade?

Interest in Gumbleton?

I haven't seen enough of him this year to know if he's on a sharp upward curve now that his injuries have settled a bit, or if he's just a bit-part tall forward. Seems to go better than D. Stewart.

Jonas just won the coaches award. He'd be a lock for rookie promotion. Pfeiffer, despite our thoughts to the contrary, didn't overly endear himself to the selection committee. Whether he gets promoted or not is anyone's guess. I say he's a 50/50 chance of being promoted.

I like gumbleton and would love him here but we'd pay huge overs to get him :(

Not sure what overs is in his case any contract hes offered will be performance based over 2 years ..so if hes lining up every week hes working for it....if not.. well hes on base pay...to trade we are not handing over our current 1st or 2nd that isnt going to happen....our 3rd ok we do that or maybe if we wind up with another second round pick though another trade maybe use that.....that could be an OK deal

There is the possibility of the preseason draft for nothing...but the Bulldogs or Ds would have a interest I would think.

Wonder whether Freo would be interested first given he's from the west and they don't have an obvious replacement for Pavlich (at least one that I'm aware of).

Also, not sure that Gumbleton would feel confident of trying to find a spot in a forward line with Schulz established and Butcher hopefully on the rise. I certainly think we could do with him, as I get the sense he is going to become a good (not great) late bloomer.

Given Butcher's injury history I'd rather play it safe and get a forward that we know can stay on the park.
Pfeiffer got dropped after games where he'd had 1 or 0 tackles, despite some good possession numbers in those games. I'd say they'll keep him on the rookie list, as he has shown some quality, but won't promote him as a way of enticing him to work on this aspect of pre-season. I assume we're gonna dump most of our current rookie list, so unless we pick up some amazing unknown talent in the upcoming RD, expect Pfeif to be upgraded start of the year again.

Let Butch and Gumby fight it out... At the right price and with the right deal ....are there other Key Forwards out there worth looking at?

Gumby will go to Freo - and with the first round draft pick, Essendon will use it to get Caddy.

There is no deal involving Gumbleton that gets Caddy to the Bombers I think...at best Freo hand over a 2nd round pick and thats not without having a long think about it..Caddy ends up at Geelong for their Ablett comp. pick for mine....although we should still go for Caddy as well ...we have a pick GC would take and at worse we make sure Geelong pays too much..

I'd be interested in looking at Dan Archer who recently got delisted by saints after only 1 game there. I'd heard a few good things about him, and I'm not sure if his inability to get a game might have been due to the Saints not willing to drop the Kosi/Roo combo and not wanting another tall clogging the forward line of Roo who needs space to lead.

Maybe Gumbleton, Jacobs swap? if he wants out, maybe that works

....

I know it is the Port board, but lets think about what Essendon would think about that deal:
They took Gumbleton as an extremely high rated exciting WAFL seniors proven KPF
God knows how many different injuries the bloke has had
Career saving surgery on his back over last summer
They have invested a good 7 years in him and god knows how much money in surgery, rehab etc.
The only other brief injury uninterrupted spell in the AFL the guy has had was in 2010 and he looked promising
Misses all of 2011, comes back into the side lateish in the year on the back of 2 VFL matches and proceeds to kick multiple goals in most of the games he played whilst showing plenty of mobility for a 2m tall bloke whose spent the best part of 7 years under the knife

I know Essendon have a glut of KPF (as well as plenty of KPD's for that matter), but the sheer amount of time, money, fan expectations that they have invested in him, I would be utterly astounded if they let him go. I will go as far as saying that if he avoids injuried for the rest of his career he will have been worth every cent of that investment.

Now, if a club comes to Essendon with a ridiculously lopsided deal, they might bite, but it would be incredibly stupid of Essendon to spend so much patience on him, only to discard him when he finally looks to have overcome his injuries.

I'm reasonably happy with Ben Jacobs, but I can't see him attracting much interest on the trade table.

They have offered Gumbleton a contract they know he will refuse and he will leave.. maybe to make way for Daniher..
Break it down...You are not giving a 1st round pick...You should not give a 2nd round pick ..If you are the Bombers you are not taking a 3rd round pick...that leaves players to trade Freos board are thinking Suban...Jacobs is a better offer for mine .maybe we draw a line with what Richmond took for Schulz...Jacobs is a long term player we may have to trade if he does not want to sign Gumbleton is a gamble that looks brillant if it comes off dumb if it doesnt...Jacobs is a safe bet for the Bombers
