It depends on how A grade the midfielder is. Gov obviously lacks the all round game atm, but I really think you underestimate his potential and how valuable a player like him is. There are about 10 clubs who would kill for a Gov. 18 contested marks in his last 4 games is almost absurd domination aerially.

Yep, he's marking well atm - against the 3rd/4th defender. People on this board are easily impressed - but I'm still skeptical he'll be a long term player. He's come in half way through a season and flashed potential as the 4th option in attack. That's a long way from proving to be a dependable contributor as a key player over 24 weeks of an AFL season. Does he have the professionalism and work ethic to keep it going? We'll find out next year.

Fair point. As exciting as it is its a small sample size in a team that suits him, and he has been on the list for a few years and still doesn't have an afl body. The potential for what he could be when fit is exciting but no guarantee he has the work ethic to get there.

Not sure where to put this but I heard today from a friend that Simpson is not liked at the club. Glass apparently retired because of Simpson.
He said his sources told him that there may be a few players walking out of the club at years end.
FWIW I thought I would throw that in.

Its probably more like Simpson see's the little boys club that's been happening there for a decade and is trying to break it apart. Seriously a coach doesn't have to be liked, so long as he gets results. I don't think MM has/had many mates on the playing list he coached.

we wont find out if we trade him

I take it all with a grain of salt - BF is never wrong is it!!.

If true it is a real positive. Time to move on from the performances of the last few years

There are caveats attached to most of the trades below:

Retire
Glass (should be saluted for being unselfish and putting the team first)
Cox (should retire against Richmond on Friday, August 25)
Butler (I like Butler but his best days are behind him)
Waters (dependant upon his shoulder recovery but it may need to for the sake of his life after football)

Trade (if possible)
Chris Masten (he couldn't tackle himself to the ground)
Josh Hill (doubt there will be many takers but you never know GWS might want some more experience)
Ash Smith (otherwise delist)
Mark Hutchings (if possible. Not a bad player but lacks composure and makes bad decisions with the ball)
Sharrod Wellingham (will always be a fourth or fifth midfielder and while he has good skills, he is flaky and goes missing far too often)

Delist
Ash Smith (if unable to trade)
Jacob Brennan (was always a battler and probably wouldn't have been drafted if he wasn't Michael's son)
Blayne Wilson (I think he can play but it is obvious Simpson is not a fan)

You're not the first to post this, some one else did on the rumours board too.

Hopefully all the spuds leave.

I think a lot of our players have a bit of an ego on them and don't like the honest truth that their games are not up to afl standard ! Smells of Greg broughton leaving freo . He thought he was a superstar playing unaccountable footy and when asked to sacrifice for the team and play a less glamourous role spat the dummy . I think we have some of these players (Wellingham masten shuey ) but that's just on face value hope I'm wrong

If I had to guess, I would say you are right. There isn't a lot of sacrificial acts going on in our midfield.

It was actually sad yesterday when McGinnity, from memory, gave off and immediately blocked the nearest Docker. It was a give and shepherd ... and I noticed it cos it rarely happens with us ... and it should be routine ... Hence the sad aspect

I agree with all this, and would add Blayne Wilson to the list

I know it's not much to go by but the way he fronts up to the media I reckon Simpson comes across as a top bloke. It's hard to imagine he's a shit campaigner of a coach.

I find it hard to believe for the fact that Glass is staying around and will be coaching with Simmo so if he wasn't that much of a fan of him surely he would just leave?

Glass not liking Simpson doesnt quite make sense does it? Personally I think the many years that Worsfold was at the helm have made some players inflexible to new leadership. The problem with having one leader for so long is that you lose perspective to other styles and methods and become complacent - 'thats just the way we do it here'.

If the players are complaining, then it reflects on them poorly. As professionals they need to get on with the job of implementing a new game plan and methodology. The true professionals and players that can see the vision that Simpson is pushing need to get on board or ship out. I for one would not be disappointed if there were some departures at the end of the year.

spot on. There's not point having a new coach and maintaining status quo.

My thoughts exactly. "I can't play under this bloke so I'm going to retire halfway through the season ... and join his coaching panel"

This **** is really not needed.

Put it on Bay 13 or some rumours thread so we can ignore it.

Agree completely with this. In fact if these are not the minimum number of changes I will question where the direction is at. You could also have a look at either one of Carter, Hill, Karpany, Main and Tunbridge <--- none of those blokes IMO are the midfielders who are going to come in and be the type of player that we need. At best I can see them as good solid contributors, but we have too many of those as it is.

Two of those guys were drafted about 7 months ago, might be a little early to be talking of delisting them.

By the way, while players being upset with the coach wouldn't concern me even if true I would add one thing:

Tim Gepp.

Geppy is a bit of a prick. Brought back while Wooshas body was still warm by his mate Nisbett and thrust on the new coach as Match Committee chairman (I assume he still is?).

Gepp has form in undermining others and being the eyes and ears in the box for Nissie.

If Simpson shows any signs of rocking the Nisbett boat within the club, it wouldn't be beyond this w***er to report back anything he could to undermine Simmo.

Woosh was the first that needed to go but we still need a real broom through the old boys club and that starts with Nisbett and Gepp IMO ...

To clarify, I don't think there's anything in the story and, as I said in the rumours thread, I don't care if there are some unhappy older players - struggling to adapt to new methods and aging bodies - that's expected when you bring in a new coach (I.e some won't like it).

But if this is Tim Gepp leaking shit to weaken Simmo, well he's got form and he's a bloke that needs to be removed by Simmo ASAP ...
