List changes for 2015

You have 3 key fwds, but only need 2. I'd be keeping McGov, would you trade Darling/Kennedy for an A grade mid? Who to trade and for whom

Would trade JK. Gov is a better mark and younger. Darling just has too much upside.

i find it hilarious people would trade wellingham and masten over priddis. the former two are much younger and could probably adapt to another gameplan with the right support. priddis on the other hand just sticks to his stutter stop then helicopter tactic

Completely understand, might be too early. I did put them in the "maybe" column.. I just don't see "premier midfielder" in any of them and we need that badly.

They weren't drafted to be "premier midfielders" though.

We're not going to find a premier midfielder by delisting everyone in the squad who isn't one.

I think what you are missing here is that some clubs would be interested in Wellingham and Masten. Both have a few years left but, in my opinion, we have seen the best of them. We may be able to do a decent trade for Wellingham and/or Masten. Maybe being the operative word.

I would like to open up list spots for the up coming draft/trade period to try and see if we can fill them with guys who have the capacity to maybe become premier midfielders. I believe that this is the biggest hole in our list and our most pressing need. I understand some of the guys in my list are FP/HF/HB/FB types but I don't think we need those types of players and we could do without a few.

Hence the word 'maybe'. You never know someone like GWS maybe prepared to swap a young midfielder and draft picks with Wellingham. Maybe even Melbourne might offer something up. You don't know until you try and seeing as both Masten and Wellingham are under contract they don't have to move unless they want to.

Wellingham and Masten are never 'going to turn it around'. They are both very vain individuals who feed off better players. Wellingham has good skills but no heart. That will never change. Masten is just too physically small and gets pushed off the ball way too easily. He also can't tackle and like Priddis is pretty hopeless defensively.

The reality with Priddis is that West Coast would never trade him and no club would ever want to draft him. The Eagles coaching staff love him so until they change their mind he will be in Eagles colours on a regular basis. That being said, when players start to fall behind, as we have witnessed with Cox this year, it comes quickly. I am willing to bet that 2015 will be the last year of Matt Priddis playing AFL.

Well OK, but there were seven outs in the post you quoted and then you named five more. Our chances of finding "premier mids" in the eighth round of the draft would be pretty minimal I would have thought.

I think you would find a few clubs happy to have Matt. Its the players that should be around and outside him that we don't have -or if we do they don't play their role well enough yet.

I am interested to see what a full preseason with Simmo achieves.

Don't disagree, I never meant to imply that I wanted every player de listed. But considering we may want to upgrade rookies, and may want to trade someone in you would have to start looking at a few of those guys. If Cox goes on and we upgrade Sinclair then it's only 5 outs, trade a guy in and it's 4... Is it a long shot? yeah, are we desperate? I would of thought so...

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Butler or Cox will go on there own steam. I would keep McGinnity but I think it's mostly because I want him to succeed because of his aggression It's easy to rate him when he is basically the only one who consistently tackles/blocks/shepherds you know the stuff they all should be doing!

They are both out of contract. I can't see Butler getting a new contract but stranger things have happened. I would be okay with keeping Cox as an insurance policy and not a regular 22 player - someone who can come in and spell NicNat or Lycett when they get tired/hurt.

Thats what keeps me sucked in for macg - aside from bigbadbeau and yeo hes our only mongrel - and you see the difference straight away - he smashes his way through places masten would need a hair surgeon if he followed

At the end of the day macg is a scrubber but id rather him in the team than pillowfingers hill.
