List Mgmt. List changes

We have been speaking about it a bit on the Essendon board and we think there may potentially be more player movements than previously. HOWEVER, these players will more than likely be non - best - 22 guys who will be looking for more opportunities (like Trav Colyer [kicking and application b4 you ask], Kyle Hardingham [kicking & offensive capabilities], Leroy Jetta [application] etc. who may use this loophole to there advantage to break contracts (Jetta is contracted for 2014 for example) and move to another club.

I think people underestimate most players don't want to screw over their current club and cop a bad name. Tippett is a money hungry flog and an exception. Ball tried to get something done but couldn't, same with Houli.

End of season changes:

Delist:
- Luke McGuane (small chance he'll leave as an FA)
- Shane Tuck (retired)
- Orren Stephenson (retired)
- Tom Derickx

Trade bait:
- Robin Nahas
- David Astbury
- Ben Griffiths
- Jake Batchelor

Griffiths looks like he'll have a decent offer from St Kilda (
sad.gif
) and there's talk they'll target Batchelor too. Batch is probably the only one of the 4 I'm desperate to keep. I love Griff but I feel he'd be better off a player getting regular gametime. Seems like the kind of bloke who needs to be thrown in at the deep end, but we don't ahve the balls to do it.

Willing to lose Nahas for anything. Astbury probably is required unless we sign another key defender,

Target:
- A young ruckman (Billy Longer)
- Another key defender
- Speedy midfielder/forward

50/50:
- Sam Lonergan
- Brad Helbig
- Brett O'Hanlon

I know alot of guys on here are in love with Helbig and O'Hanlon but what they've shown hasn't been great. Both will stay on the list but need to bring something to the table in 2014.

2014 breakout year (hopefully):
- Liam McBean
- Matt Arnot
- Matt Dea

Agree with that. Jetta looked like he didn't want to be there in the game against us. No way you lose anyone you want to keep.

I cant really for the life of me understand how people keep mentioning Brett O'Hanlons name in the delist or in danger columns - He is exactly the type of player that we are crying out for
Good footballer with skills that will eventually play medium foward and run through the midfield

I would / Can see Newman/King/Foley all go before a 20yo kid with talend

Gone
Tuck
Going (or should be)
Nahas, Big O, McGuane, Derickx

1 more year
Griff, Astbury, Foley, Newman, Lonergan

Foley and Newman have 1 year left in them i believe - and then will be time for Arnott, Helbig, McDonough and 1st round draft pick to take over. Griff and Astbury need to be given more game time next year to se where they are going forward.

Needs
Ruckman - Target Billy Longer
man mountain CHB
2 tall outside midfielders.
1 medium, crumbing forward/midfielder

did we not just sign foley to a 3 year contract

Yeah Foley is required and will see out his contract. I know his form was down a little and got dropped but we are a better side when he is firing!

Totally agree Kegguss. if he has an uninterrupted preseason, I think we'll be glad he got a 3 yr deal.

The fact we gave him 3 years shows his value to the club!

I also think the club in signing him and Grimes while injured want to send a strong and clear message to players. That they won't step away from them in their time of need. I thought the way RFC treated Kelvin was great also :thumbsu:

I keep forgetting about Dea - I said somewhere else we needed another decent small defender to lock down those speedy types (and to take Newy's spot in the side down the track). Dea is the man for the job IMO :thumbsu:

McBean to take the third tall role with McGuane or Edwards to provide depth.

Elton hopefully will be pushing for selection next year too.

Titch Edwards to move back to the forwardline to provide us with a decent crumber. Hopefully
McDonoghue can step up as well.

Conca, Ellis and Vlastuin to step up in the midfield.

Need to add a bit of depth across the park - Maybe elevate Darrou off the rookie list, bring in Thomas/Adams, a young ruck and a small forward.

If foley has 3 more year then i'm happy with that. Being dropped for an elimination final though, esp with speedster White out never looks good going forward. Maybe they played Tuck just as a nice retirement present.

Should have pissed off Petterd instead of dropping Foley.

Tuck starts & Foley sub.

Batch > Saints for their 2nd round selection
Griff & 2nd rd selection > Lions for Longer & 3rd round
1st rounder > GWS for Adams, otherwise go to the draft as there should be a Sheed, Freeman, Crouch available.

Upgrade Darrou - essentially taking Batch's spot (role) on the main list.
Upgrade Edwards for forward line depth (he appears to have gone past McGuane as the choice here).
Delist McGuane, and re-rookie list him if no-one takes him as a FA (provides insurance both ends of the ground)
If we get Longer, move Derickx on (even if Orren is going around again, which I hope he does).

Shop Nahas, and delist if no offers.
Delist Verrier.

Use 1 x 2nd rounder and 2 x 3rd rounders to add depth where it's deemed as required. Probably a mid or two, and maybe a KPP. Ruck prospect on the rookie list, unless an unexpected option is there at one of our ND selections.

Edwards is already on the senior list. Pick 80 odd last year.

Griff and second rounder won't come close to getting a pick 8 ruck who has played only 10 games. Plus they give us third.

If we want Longer we will be giving up our first pick imo.

nail, head. It's McDonough by the way:)

trade batch/griff promote darrou.

I tend to agree. Though with Longer asking to go home, and Lions needing KPP's, thought it might not be that much if a stretch. Plus, Mr. Magic said he'd only consider a late draft pick for Longer ;-)

they might consider an astbury or elton and a 2nd rounder however, both would have more value than griff.

Why is everyone keen on trading Batchelor but keeping Dea? IMO Batchelor has shown twice the amount of Dea (despite a poor season) and is two years younger!

Retire:
Shane Tuck

Veteran's list:
Newman

Delist:
Nahas
Derickx
Griffiths
Verrier*
Longergan*
Simon*

Promote:
Petterd

4 picks in the National Draft, 3 picks in the rookie draft.

Would also shop McGuane, Helbig, O'Hanlon, Dea and Batchelor around.

I have chosen to delist Griffiths over McGuane because I just can't see Griffiths making an impact at AFL level. McGuane is kept there as a 3rd forward and to keep those in front of him accountable. He will also be good for our VFL side.

Because Batch has taken Nahas`s spot from last years threads when it was "Nahas + pick bla, bla for Dom Tyson"

Trade and draft threads are so stupid because everyone has such crazy theories and none ever pan out except for a pure fluke through weight of prediction numbers.

How about if you add McGuane? Surely Batch/McGuane and our second round is worth Adams and their second?
