List Mgmt. List changes

I've noticed the D-Rex has been named in the bests over the last few weeks for the 'burgers - I believe this is a result of him playing more time as the main ruck? Interesting to see if the powers that be see anything in him, or at least enough to keep him on as a rookie?

Lonergan too has hit form at the pointy end of the season. If he's happy to remain a rookie, I'd keep him around.

You'd think Nahas has had his papers stamped. Griff, Helbig, Dea, Batch and Arnott are the interesting ones for mine. Have all showed glimpses over their brief forays into the firsts, without really stamping their mark on a position... Some tough discussions to be made!

We need better quality ruck depth than the likes of Derrickx & Stephenson

Tuck's retirement is Lonergan's best chance IMO but you never know.

I'd be stunned if Arnott was delisted now - I think everyone would be!

BTW - Wasn't there an identical thread to this just last week? Pretty sure I said all this then.

You'd think Derickx, Verrier, Stephenson and Nahas would all move on at years end, Dea, as much as it pains me too say, may be moved on aswell.

Griffo is 21..... Way to early to depart with a kpp.

Henderson for Carlton is finally stepping up this year at age 23.

Hell, Lachie Hansen is 25 and finally showing something.

Surely not?

I'm with you Ant I can't see Darrou delisted. Possibly traded only for a greater need , only if we can definately get an upgrade. Even then I have doubts (just my opinion, based on well my opinion ;) ).

Richmond Tigers Rookie List 2013

13 Ricky Petterd - elevate
22 Sam Lonergan - keep
37 Orren Stephenson - retire
40 Cadeyn Williams - keep
48 Ben Darrou - keep
49 Steven Verrier - delist

Above is how I would go about it at seasons end. Nahas A.Edwards & Derickx are delisted(try to trade Nahas first). If McGuane gets no offers via free agency then I would tell him that we will delist him with the promise to rookie list him unless someone else picks him up. Same goes for Derickx if no-one else takes him he'll get rookie listed. I expect Tuck will finally retire after contemplating it for the last 2 seasons. I would try and talk him into staying involved with the club at reserves level if he wanted to go on playing footy. Conca is one that is up in the air. Lots of talk about WCE being heavily into getting him, if the offer is too good for him to refuse then we work out a deal that benefits both clubs, pick 8 is a must.

Off the rookie list I'd elevate Petterd to the senior list as he has shown in the games he has played that he offered us plenty. I expect Stephenson to retire and I don't believe that Verrier has shown enough to keep on the list. With those 2 spots available I would as mentioned above look to add Derickx and McGuane to the rookie list to increase our depth. The rookie list pretty much becomes a veterans list with Lonergan McGuane & Derickx there in case we need experienced bodies.

So depending on if Conca goes and elevating Petterd we'd have 4-5 spots to fill via the drafts/trade/free agency. If Conca does go then I'd hold off on that trade until we got the trade with GWS for Adams done. Trade our 1st pick to GWS for Adams and then get WCE 1st pick for Conca and we'd effectively go from pick 12 to pick 8 and swap Conca for Adams. That should allow us to add another quality kid to the list with a top 10 pick and then use the rest of the picks to go for best available/needs based recruiting. Maybe even go after a free agent that adds to the list without costing the earth. Sylvia, M.Thomas or Ellis would be a good addition to the list we've built and help build our depth.

Delist Williams? The 18 year old kid who had a shoulder reco this year? Jesus that's impatient.

We need to make three changed to the main list.

I would be getting rid of Nahas, D-Rex and moving A Edwards to the rookie list. I would move McGuane to the rookie list too depending on how these last few weeks go.

That opens up four spots on the main list. I would like to see Tuck go round again but if he retires then we have five spots on the main list which is perfect.

I would keep all the rookies except Verrier and Lonergan maybe. Not too fussed. I am happy to back in Helbig, Arnott, Dea, Batch, McDonough and whoever we pick up in the draft to act as depth instead of Petterd and Lonergan.

We still need McGuane or Edwards to buy us time while Griffiths, Astbury, McBean and Elton keep developing. KPP get 6 years to make it. Then cut. That allows time for strength, injuries and development plus settling in once they finally have the build required to play at this level. If they can't prove their worth at that point then we need to cut our losses, no matter the potential.

We have enough kids now that we don't need to keep flooding our list every draft. 4-5 picks in the ND is enough.

I would also be giving Jackson and White (and McGuane if he isn't on the rookie list) one year contracts until they are no longer best 22. I feel that while those guys are in the 22 at the moment, it won't be long before they get pushed out by Helbig, Arnott, McDonough etc.

juss Any reason for getting rid of Cadeyn Williams? He looked good pre-injury from what I saw.
No real reason, didn't realize he'd been injured and not hearing much about him assumed he was just in poor form. Happy to re rookie then.

Yeah he did his shoulder again unfortunately. Looks a real player but injuries could ruin him.

We've made so many changes to the list since Hardwick arrived that I think this may be the first time that we don't cut that deep and just look to consolidate with the players we have.

Minimum 3 picks. Maybe bring in an Adams and that would do it IMO. Next year there may be more cuts as we see how some of the kids we've drafted step up like Helbig, Dea, Griffiths, O'Hanlon, Arnot plus likes of McGuane, Tuck, King keeping their place or looking for a more regular game etc.

I really cant understand why people are saying we should delist and rookie certain players

Nahas,Dericks - should be certainly moved on

Lonergan,Verrier have not shown enough or the quality to be with us in the future

Stephenson - Really doesnt offer us that much playing 2-3 games a year and is too old (better of developing a 20/21 yo ruck

Darrou - I think he is just a backup 3rd tall thats not really kp height and we certainly have enough of his size

We have the chance to make Jackson,Foley,Newman,Tuck all vets and still draft kids to maintain the quality of youngsters coming through

McGuane - As i mentioned before i have never been a fan but at $100-$150k is worth keeping on the list another year

White - Certainly has earned another year this year and with the amount of vets we have has the chance to get 1 more year atleast and wouldnt be on high $$$ so good for depth and at the right cost

Tuck - This man is a MUST keep for another year , Tuck would be on low money probably $150k or there abouts of which $112,000 is not included in our tpp and not only provides great depth and ball winning ability but costs us nothing in our tpp which enables us to pay more to the likes of Conca,Ellis,Vlastuin etc

We should be looking at the Rookie list with new eyes this year and be smart in keeping good depth players like Tuck,White and McGuane and occupy as much as the vets rule allows us at the same time getting in 4-5 kids that can take us foward

Deledio,McGuane are eligable to be vet status in 2015

Delist: dea, derickx, lonergan, verrier, nahas
Trade: astbury + second round for late first round

Can't delist Lonergan, he's decent depth.
If Tuck retires he will stay, though I'd rather give Travis Tuck a shot - even if Shane stays. I wouldn't mind all three on the list - Lonergan's disposal is no worse than Jackson's has been for most of his career (or even the likes of Edwards, White, Nahas, King & Tuck himself at their worst ) and he's an elite clearance player, good tackler and genuine midfield enforcer who can hurt opponents fairly and set an aggressive tone. Midfields with Lonergan in them might not be as silky smooth but they don't get bullied off the park either.

List clogger. I was advocating drafting him last year. No idea what I was thinking. Should be convinced to stay in the VFL side. He's a good VFL player.
