The glaring weakness in our side is Speed,Speed ,Speed

We actually need to get 2 more elite speed midfielders with good disposal an like to run down opponents to put pressure on the opposition and create space and options.

We also need to fix the inside as well. Guys like Dwayne Wilson, Karl Amon later in the draft would add that extra speed on the outside.

sorry to intrude guys. Tough game yesterday but a learning curve and a true test on the guys to take forward.

Just on this, leg speed is significantly over rated on bigfooty. Is Sydney quick (bar Lewis Jetta?)? how about Hawthorn? Even Geelong haven't had any true line breakers (bar Wojo) in there premiership years.

Decision making should be the top priority when looking for players. Skills can be masked by decision making (see Jarad McVeigh - not saying he is a poor user but not elite by any means).

come draft time I'd like:

Another outside runner with really good pace and ball use.
Another hard, strong and tall inside midfielder.
A silky medium defender that uses the ball well and rebounds to create play (lids/gibbs type)/ or a good ball winning mid that shows he can lift a team.

Jonathon Marsh
Dayle Garlett
Darcy Cameron

I'd prefer Adams to Bontempelli. I think Bontempelli has potential but could also bust. Bit of a risk that I wouldn't take for us.
I like Marsh as a winger but I think he may go top 15.
Garlett is a pea-heart. I've gone right off him and that's just from a footy perspective without taking into account his off-field. I've watched a tonne of his games this year and I come away each time rating him less and less. Then as a footy club you have to take into account the off-field.
Cameron I think we'd have to take 2nd or 3rd round. But I do rate highly.

A young big key defender to develop (we only have Astbury as backup)
Midfield depth

i'd add to that a small fwd like Betts that can win a game off his own boot as we don't have one atm

I'm sorry but our forward line isn't functioning at all, this selflessness jack thing that is going on needs to stop, we need a proper goal kicking forward that compliments our goal kicking Mids, not goal kicking Mids feed from our NONE GOAL KICKING FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR WHAT THE HELL!!!!!

i'd settle for just a small fwd, Nahas is all we have as a genuine small fwd. Sheds etc i'd consider to be med size

All the right types just the wrong players and to think the following year we wasted spots on McMahon and Simmonds .
And oh and I am sorry but the snubbing of Barlow is beyond belief.

Lightly built mid from Tassie. Very skilled, runs all day, very good on the inside though likely starts on the outside at AFL level due to his lack of size. The type of gem you try find later in the draft though I think someone will snap him up in the first 20.

I made a thread this morning about the spots in the forward line and I think Edwards and McDonough should share midfield/forward time next year. Then we need to upgrade King. We all love him etc but he's not going to win us a game. (cue: stat about wins v losses with King in and out of side) We also need another KPF whether that's an Elton or a McBean or we have to draft another I don't know. Then the medium forward/mid needs to be a rotation of Cotchin/Martin/Lids (2 in the midfield one up forward rotating around)

I found players on the list that COULD play all the roles but not the genuine small forward. We don't have that game-breaking small.

I agree, but I think you're picking out the wrong players. Griff, Dea, Batchelor, Helbig. All of them were top 50 picks and not one is playing senior footy regularly. Left out Astbury because he has been playing and he copped a shocking injury.

I can see why they took some of them, but the problem was we took so many risks and so far NONE have come off and it looks really ugly.
